Alt+O and Alt+C keyboard shortcuts are no longer working

Alt+O keyboard shortcut is supposed to open the original page for the documentation. Alt+C keyboard shortcut is supposed to copy the URL of the original documentation page. These keyboard shortcuts have not been working for some time.

The keyboard shortcuts are documented on the "Guide" page.

Steps to reproduce

1. Open any documentation page. I enabled the "Git" documentation, and browsed to the documentation page for "git status".
2. Hit alt + o.

Expected: New tab should open to page https://git-scm.com/docs/git-status
Actual: Nothing happens.

To note: could not reproduce on macOS. Option + O and Option + C are still working as intented.

I'm having the same issue on macOS Tahoe (26.2) with the latest Chrome [Version 144.0.7559.110 (Official Build) (arm64)]. I have saved the web app for oflline and it worked for the first few days. Now, I can no longer copy the original url [opt + c] or open the original page [opt + o] in either the offline app or live browser tab.

Before posting the above, I decided to check the preferences and have found that checking 'Disable autofocus of search input' fixes the issue of being unable to copy the original url, but the (less important, to me) issue of not being able to open the original page still remains. Maybe this will help someone.

Hi! I can confirm this bug still exists and I've tested it thoroughly.

Environment

• Browser: Chrome 145.0.7632.160
• OS: Windows
• Date tested: March 9, 2026

Reproduction Steps

1. Visited https://devdocs.io
2. Enabled "Git" documentation
3. Navigated to git-status page: https://devdocs.io/git/git-status
4. Pressed Alt + O

Result: Nothing happens (no new tab, no error, no console output)

Additional Testing

I tested this across multiple scenarios:

Test 1: Different documentation

• ❌ Git docs: Alt + O does nothing
• ❌ Python docs: Alt + O does nothing
• Conclusion: Issue affects all documentation pages

Test 2: Browser console

• Opened DevTools (F12)
• Checked Console tab
• Pressed Alt + O
• Result: No JavaScript errors appear

Test 3: Network tab

• Opened DevTools Network tab
• Pressed Alt + O
• Result: No network requests made

Test 4: Other keyboard shortcuts

-Alt + R - Open references panel
-Alt + S - Focus search

Expected Behavior

When pressing Alt + O on https://devdocs.io/git/git-status:

• New tab should open
• Navigate to: https://git-scm.com/docs/git-status

Actual Behavior

• Nothing happens at all
• No new tab
• No errors
• No network activity
• Shortcut appears completely non-functional

I'd Like to Help Fix This

I have web development experience and recently contributed to improving
documentation for the Apple corenet project. I've forked the DevDocs
repository and am ready to investigate the codebase.

Next steps I can take:

1. Search the codebase for keyboard shortcut handlers
2. Find where Alt + O should be registered
3. Debug why it's not triggering
4. Submit a fix

Would you like me to proceed with investigating this? Any pointers on
where to look in the codebase would be helpful!

Preliminary Investigation

The fact that there are no console errors suggests the event handler
might not be registered at all, rather than failing when triggered.
