The json files I work with every day are of type application/vnd.api+json - these don't open automatically with your extension. I had a quick look at the source code and couldn't find where the media/filetype to open is specified.
PS i chose your extension because you used the same icon as my old favourite, JSONView, which had a config option to add media types.
