Part of the ecosystem-wide sweep to Rust 1.98.1 / lance 12 / lancedb 0.39.

  • rust-toolchain.toml: 1.94.0 → 1.98.1
  • CI (ci-master.yml, proof.yml): toolchain: "1.94.0" → "1.98.1"
  • Dockerfiles: rust:1.94-slim-bookworm / rust:1.83-slim-bookworm (Dockerfile.unified) → rust:1.98-slim-bookworm

Not bumped: lance = "2.0" (optional). Going 2 → 12 is an API migration across ten majors, not a version bump, and this repo does not compile without its sibling checkouts (see CLAUDE.md §1). It is left as is and flagged, rather than bumped blind.

Not compiled locally, so CI is the gate.

rust-toolchain channel and Docker builder images move to 1.98.x; MSRV
(rust-version) floors are unchanged.
