SWI-3723 [Snyk] Security upgrade org.springframework:spring-web from 6.1.21 to 6.2.17 - #1042
This minor version upgrade from Spring Framework 6.1 to 6.2 introduces several behavioral changes and stricter rules that require verification.
Key Changes:
Stricter Generic Type Matching: Dependency injection is now less lenient when matching generic types. Injection points that previously worked might fail if the generic signatures do not precisely match. You should verify bean injection points, especially those using generics in constructor arguments or @Bean method return types.
Revised Autowiring Algorithm: The autowiring logic has been revised. Parameter name and @Qualifier matches now take precedence over @jakarta.annotation.Priority rankings. While the Spring team does not expect common regressions, complex dependency resolution scenarios could be affected.
Trailing Slash Handling: For static resources, a trailing slash is now appended if not present. More critically, functional endpoints now have an assertion to ensure a trailing slash is present, making it mandatory in that context.
Dependency Updates & Deprecations:
The webjars-locator-core library is deprecated and no longer supported, replaced by webjars-locator-light.
Support for HtmlUnit has moved to a new major version (3.x), which requires migration effort if used in testing.
Recommendation:
This upgrade is not a simple drop-in replacement. It is critical to run a full regression test suite, paying close attention to application startup and dependency injection behavior. Verify any custom autowiring configurations and endpoints that rely on specific URL path matching rules.
