SchemaKit 11.0.0-preview.1: the first slice of the new API, on EF Core 11 / Npgsql 11 under the new ids #38
Description
Rescoped 2026-10-19 (later): SchemaKit gets a new API (#61), and no preview ships the 5.x API under the new ids. 11.0.0-preview.1 is the first slice of that API: the kernel plus at least one feature end to end, as #61 names it. The retarget and rename below still happen, but on the new code, not as a preview of the old surface. Blocked by #55 (5.5.0 and the cut) and #61.
Rewritten 2026-10-19 for the spin-off (#37). The long-lived net11 branch is dropped, as CodoMetis.ValueRanges dropped its own (CaffeinatedCoder/CodoMetis.ValueRanges#280).
This starts after v5.5.0 is tagged and release/5.x is cut at the tag (#36). Then, on main:
- Ids:
CodoMetis.EFCore.SchemaKit,CodoMetis.EFCore.SchemaKit.PostgreSQL,CodoMetis.EFCore.SchemaKit.SqlServer, with namespaces and assembly names to match. The public API is SchemaKit API design: a declaration the database would reject does not compile #61's, not the 5.x one. The annotation keys follow SchemaKit: snapshot format v2 and CodoMetis: annotation keys ship in 11.0.0; the 5.x format is read forever (D11) #58. - Platform:
net11.0.Microsoft.EntityFrameworkCore.*andNpgsql.EntityFrameworkCore.PostgreSQLon 11.0.0-rc.2 (Npgsql's rc.2 is on NuGet now), with the floors net11 measurements: EF Core 11 under the 5.x differ (record for SchemaKit, not merged) #47 decided: a prerelease floor and a12.0.0ceiling. - Version and validation:
Version11.0.0-preview.1, and no package-validation baseline, since the ids are new (Package validation on the SchemaKit line: no baseline until 11.0.0 #46). - Docs: SECURITY.md rows for 11.x (
main) and 5.x (release/5.x), and CONTRIBUTING's branch section. - Repository and publishing: rename the repository to
CaffeinatedCoder/CodoMetis.EFCore.SchemaKit, and update NuGet's trusted-publishing scope for the new ids (ROADMAP.md5.8). That scope fails silently if it's left alone. - The release workflow publishes the preview as a prerelease.
#47 holds the retarget measurements on EF Core 11 rc.1: no source change, 339/339 tests passing, byte-identical SQL, differ registration and snapshot round-trip unchanged. They show the EF Core 11 internals under the differ are unchanged, which the new kernel relies on. #47 is not merged as it is.
Measure, with the output pasted here:
- net11 measurements: EF Core 11 under the 5.x differ (record for SchemaKit, not merged) #47's measurements, re-run on rc.2
- the renamed packages restore beside

Sequencing note (2026-10-18): CodoMetis.ValueRanges' integration suite and consumer smoke test now reference
EFCore.ComplexIndexes.PostgreSQL5.4.0 (its PRs #158/#159), whose Npgsql EF pin[10.0.0, 11.0.0)cannot restore onnet11.0. ValueRanges' retarget (its #103) therefore waits for this preview, or excludes those tests onnet11.0until it exists. Measured on the
net11branch (PR #47, draft), 2026-10-18:Npgsql.EntityFrameworkCore.PostgreSQL11.0.0-rc.1.1 pinsMicrosoft.EntityFrameworkCoreto exactly11.0.0-rc.1.26425.128, so rc.2 fails to restore (NU1107) in the PostgreSQL satellite, the test project and any consumer.
