📝 Walkthrough
Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to
|
When a conformance test exhausts its fix attempts, the loop deletes it and renders a replacement. That only works for a test the module under render owns: RenderConformanceTests builds the replacement's folder under render_context.module_name and takes its specifications from render_context.frid_context, but records the entry against current_testing_module_name. For a required module's test the files, the index entry and the specification each end up describing a different module. A test in that state also loses its recorded entry, so the next regeneration removes it with an unguarded pop and the render ends on a bare KeyError naming the functionality id - after an hour of work, with no indication of what happened. Exhausting the attempts on a required module's test is now a failed render rather than a regeneration, and the pop no longer ends a render over a state that should not arise.

Extend the regeneration guard to include the functionality ID.
RenderConformanceTests._render_conformance_tests stores the entry under current_testing_frid, but it takes the replacement specification from render_context.frid_context. If regression handling reaches an earlier functionality in the same module, the module-only guard allows regeneration with the wrong specification.

The problem
When a conformance test exhausts its 20 fix attempts,
FixConformanceTestsetsregenerating_conformance_testsand the loop deletes the recorded test and renders a replacement. That is only coherent for a test belonging to the module being rendered.
RenderConformanceTestsbuilds the replacement's folder underrender_context.module_nameand takes its specifications fromrender_context.frid_context, but records the entry againstcurrent_testing_module_name. When those differ — a test belonging to a required module — the generated files, the index entry and the specification each describe a different module.A functionality left in that state no longer has a recorded entry, and
_handle_test_regenerationremoved it with an unguardeddict.pop(frid). The render then ended on an uncaughtKeyError, reported to the user as the bare functionality id:No message, no indication of what happened, after a render that had already been running for an hour.
The change
Only regenerate what the render can rebuild. Exhausting the fix attempts on a required module's test now takes the existing error path instead of the regeneration path — the render has failed, and regenerating would produce an incoherent result.
Do not end a render on a missing entry.
_handle_test_regenerationpops with a default and warns instead of raising. The replacement is rendered fresh either way, so a state that should not arise degrades rather than discarding an hour of work.Notes for review
[current_testing_frid]indexing appears atrender_types.py:108,120,122,138andrender_context.py:518. The first change removes the state that makes them reachable; guarding them individually seemed like noise without a case that reaches them.Summary by CodeRabbit
