fix(web): reviews by product id serve published products only - #1314
GET /api/v1/rate/reviews?masterProductId= now answers like the slug path: an id that does not name a published product gets 404 NOT_FOUND, and no listing or review is read for it. The status check (isPublishedMasterProduct) is cached for 5 minutes under the products tag, like the slug lookup.
The merchant profile (/api/v1/rate/merchants/<id> and the merchant page) no longer reads the reviews of a listing whose product is draft or archived; an unclustered listing's reviews still show. Found by the Codex review.
The platform stats (/api/v1/rate/stats and the home page's recent reviews) no longer sample a review of a listing whose product is unpublished. Found by the Codex review.
Tests
write-paths.test.ts: a draft id gets 404 with a status-filtered lookup and no listing or review read; a published id still gets 200.
core-rate-architecture.test.ts: the stats sample drops a draft product's review.
merchant-profile-reads.test.ts: the merchant's review read skips the listing of an unpublished product and keeps published and unclustered ones.
Review gate
Codex round 1: the merchant-profile path; round 2: the platform stats sample; both fixed above. No cache or error-handling finding. Stopped at 2 rounds per the review cap.
Checks
pnpm --filter web test, tsc --noEmit, eslint, prettier: green locally.
Requests for reviews by an unpublished or unavailable product now return a not-found response.
Merchant profile reviews no longer include reviews associated with unpublished products. Reviews for published products and unclustered listings remain available.

The reviews API now checks publication status before serving reviews by product ID. Merchant profile reads now exclude reviews for listings linked to unpublished products.

Summary
Published-product lookup and cache apps/web/src/lib/rate-api.ts, apps/web/src/server/rate/index.ts
A published-product lookup checks the product ID and status. Its cached wrapper sanitizes IDs and caches valid lookups for 300 seconds.
Review queries include unclustered listings and listings linked to published masters, and exclude listings linked to unpublished products. Tests check the query parameters.
DOS/Rate#1032: This PR uses the ID sanitizer added in PR #1032 before the cached published-product lookup.
DOS/Rate#332: This PR changes the merchant profile review-read flow also modified here.

Explanation
Objective [#1309]: resolve the masterProductId to a published product before reading reviews, or filter by status, and add a test.
apps/web/src/app/api/v1/rate/reviews/route.ts: in the masterProductId branch, isCachedPublishedMasterProduct(parsedQuery.masterProductId) runs before resolvedMasterId is set. When it returns false, the route returns 404 { code: 'NOT_FOUND' }. The 404 return happens before any listing, review, or summary read.
apps/web/src/server/rate/index.ts: the cached wrapper uses a 300-second data-cache entry tagged RATE_CACHE_TAGS.PRODUCTS. This matches the slug lookup behavior described in the issue.
Test: write-paths.test.ts covers a draft id returning 404 with a status-filtered lookup and no listing or review reads, and a published id returning 200. This is based on the change summary. I did not read the test file directly.
The slug path is unchanged, so the issue's comparison baseline still holds. No non-coding requirement exists in #1309.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
Changes outside the masterProductId route branch:
rate-api.tsgetMerchantProfileBase: reviews are now fetched only for listings that are unclustered or whose cluster master is published. Reviews of draft or archived listings are excluded. This change cites fix(web): reviews by product id skip the published check #1309 and applies the same rule (unpublished review data must not be readable) to the merchant profile read path. It is a related, adjacent change and the PR description discloses it. It is not unrelated work.
write-paths.test.ts and merchant-profile-reads.test.ts: these tests support the changes above.
The isPublishedMasterProduct function is inserted between an existing JSDoc block and getMasterProductReviews. The existing JSDoc ("Fetch reviews across listings grouped under a master product...") now sits above the new function's doc comment. This is a documentation placement defect. It does not change behavior and does not affect the requirements of #1309.
No change was found that is unconnected to #1309 or to the disclosed merchant-profile fix.

Explanation
The description clearly explains what changed, why it changed, affected endpoints, tests, review findings, and local validation results. It does not use the full repository template: the Conventional Commit title, checklist, optional screenshots section, and Notes section are missing. These omissions are non-critical because the main change and verification details are complete.

Cached merchant profiles can keep reviews of a master archived after caching, until the cache entry expires or is revalidated with the merchants input.
The publication filter runs once, when the merchant profile base is built. The base is cached with revalidate: 600 and the MERCHANTS tag. In-repo product and review revalidation do not add MERCHANTS or merchantCacheTag. A master whose status changes after caching can therefore keep its reviews in the cached profile until the entry expires or is revalidated with the merchants input. This behavior predates the PR. The base had no publication filter, so it showed a superset of these reviews, and this change narrows the window.
Note: this behaviour predates this PR (already present at merge base 4eca23d59cd6); the change keeps it reachable.

Ensure cached merchant profiles are revalidated when a master’s publication
status changes; update the relevant product revalidation path to invalidate the
merchant profile cache tag used by the base containing the publishedMasterIds
filter. Preserve the existing publication filter and avoid relying solely on the
cache’s 600-second expiration.
Make the master_products mock honor the status filter.
The mock returns the published master for every master_products request. Removing .eq('status', 'published') from the merchant-profile master lookup leaves this test passing, so the draft-listing assertion does not check the filter. This is a coverage gap for behavior that is correct today. The fixture should return a draft master only when the request omits the status filter.

60-62: Trivial · Functional Correctness
Cached 200 responses for masterProductId can outlive an archive for a bounded window. This predates the PR.
The publication check runs only when the GET handler executes. The successful response sets Cache-Control: public, s-maxage=60, stale-while-revalidate=300. A shared cache can therefore serve a stored response that includes reviews for up to about 60 seconds when fresh, and up to 300 seconds more while revalidation runs. The merge base sets the same header on its 200 response, and its masterProductId path has no publication check. This PR does not extend the cache window.
No inspected repository contract requires immediate revocation. The inspected code has no status-change handler that purges this URL. That is an absence of an inspected handler, not proof that no external purge occurs. Shortening s-maxage does not by itself give immediate archival enforcement. The PR description reports a separate five-minute cache for the published-status lookup. The supplied evidence does not inspect that cache.
No safe code change is established. Any change to the window is an operational trade-off for the owning team.
Note: this behaviour predates this PR (already present at merge base 4eca23d59cd6); the change keeps it reachable.

No code change is established by this review: preserve the
`isCachedPublishedMasterProduct` check and existing cache behavior, and make no
cache-window changes without an explicit policy decision from the owning team.
The published-ID block checks only the 200 status and masterProductId. On success, the reviews route also returns count, totalCount, summary, and data from its review reads. If a change stops those reads or drops their values, this test still passes.
The fetch stub returns an empty list for unmatched paths, and this file has no review fixture. Add a review for MASTER_ID to the stubbed reviews read. Then assert totalCount or data against that fixture.
