Adds a 10-slide introduction to PolicyEngine UK for the Good Growth Foundation on 23 October 2026, a 20 to 30 minute slot, at /slides/good-growth-foundation-2026. Presenters: Max Ghenis, María Juaristi and Vahid Ahmadi.

  1. Title.
  2. What PolicyEngine is. The 9 October introduction deck's (Add the Analysing the UK Autumn Budget 2026 webinar deck #77) "What PolicyEngine is" and "How it works" slides in one: the rules, the households and the results, with the open code underneath.
  3. How microsimulation works. A six-step walkthrough after the UK event 2025 deck (model-scope, slide 2): one household under current law, the reform, behaviour, more households, weights, then weighted totals. The households and figures are illustrative.
  4. What the UK model covers. Four families of rules (taxes on income, taxes on spending and property, benefits, childcare and students), read from the policyengine-uk 2.146.6 parameter tree, naming Scotland's, Wales's and Northern Ireland's own rules. 732 of the 795 parameter files cite the law or guidance they implement, and the tests hold over 4,000 cases; inheritance tax is not modelled.
  5. From surveys to a population that represents the UK. The Scottish Government deck's (Start Scottish Government presentation for 9 October 2026 #70) pipeline graph, told for the whole UK, including the step that places households in local areas for the local-area dataset.
  6. What the weights are calibrated to. The UK calibration targets in the Microcosm UK build, in 14 groups, with the levels they bind at (UK, nations and regions, constituencies, local authorities), their publishers, and row counts for the national dataset (1,231) and the local-area dataset (22,116: every national target plus 20,885 for constituencies and local authorities).
  7. A targeted energy bill discount. The Resolution Foundation's flat £175 option in 2026-27: 11.95m of 28.6m households in Great Britain eligible, costing £2.09bn if all take it up. Charts show eligibility by region, split by route, and the average gain by national income decile. The figures match the dashboard's data file at uk-energy-reforms 14bf3b0 (Microcosm UK national release, policyengine-uk 2.102.3).
  8. Recent UK research. The eight newest items on policyengine.org/uk/research, newest first, each linking to the live page.
  9. Who uses PolicyEngine UK. Seven organisations from Add the Analysing the UK Autumn Budget 2026 webinar deck #77's community slide, without the Good Growth Foundation as the audience, plus NIESR.
  10. Thank you. With an invitation to next week's Autumn Budget 2026 webinar (Wednesday 28 October, 4:30pm UK time) and a QR code for its Zoom registration link, generated locally and checked by decoding it from slide screenshots.

The logos in public/logos/orgs/ come unchanged from #77's branch, so the two PRs add identical files; NIESR's logo and the research covers come from policyengine-app-v2. The deck's README lists the pinned sources behind each figure.

Validation

  • TypeScript, ESLint and the tests (199 passed, 6 skipped) pass, and the production build succeeds.
  • Every slide was checked at laptop and projector sizes, from 1280 to 1920 pixels wide; nothing runs into the sources line or past the slide edge.
  • Every source link returns 200 except Hansard, which blocks automated checks.

Eight slides introducing PolicyEngine UK: what PolicyEngine is and how it
works (from the 9 October introduction deck), what the UK model covers (read
from policyengine-uk 2.146.6), the Microcosm UK pipeline told for the whole
UK, the Resolution Foundation's targeted energy discount with Great Britain's
regions and income deciles (from the Scottish Government deck), and the
organisations that use our work.

…F deck

- How microsimulation works: a six-step walkthrough after the UK event 2025
deck, with illustrative households and figures.
- What the weights are calibrated to: the UK calibration targets in the
Microcosm UK build, the level each binds at and its publisher, with the
local-area build's targets marked as in validation.
- Recent UK research: the eight newest items on policyengine.org/uk/research.
- Who uses PolicyEngine UK: adds NIESR and the House of Lords logo.

The local-area dataset is published, so the deck no longer calls it in
validation. The target table now lists constituencies and local authorities
among the levels each target binds at, with one row count for the national
dataset and one for the local-area dataset, which binds every national
target as well as its own. The pipeline's local stage and the How it works
slide say the same.

One slide now carries the rules, the households and the results, with the
open-code banner underneath; the results card takes in the old "pick a
policy, one household, the whole country" cards. The deck has 10 slides.

The closing slide now leads with next week's webinar, "Autumn Budget 2026:
PolicyEngine's same-day first look" (Wednesday 28 October, 4:30pm UK time),
with a QR code for the Zoom registration link above the contact links. The
QR code was generated locally with segno and decodes to the link at laptop
and projector sizes.
