Description

PR changeset refactor integration harness helpers:

  • Database session connection is separated from testing.T
  • Cleanup is registered at the subtest scope
  • Cleanup runs even when assertions fail
  • Existing Open(t, opts) behavior remains compatible

Resolves: BED-9992

Type of Change

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Integration setup failures now return clear errors instead of terminating tests, and resources are cleaned up when setup fails.
    • Graph cleanup is handled consistently between tests, helping prevent leftover data from affecting results.
  • Tests
    • Added checks for missing connection settings and mismatched database drivers.

- Database construction is separated from testing.T
- Cleanup is registered at the subtest scope
- Cleanup runs even when assertions fail
- Existing Open(t, opts) behavior remains compatible

Walkthrough

The integration harness adds an error-returning session opener, error-returning schema and dataset scanning, and session graph cleanup methods. Integration tests register graph cleanup at subtest scope.

Changes

Integration harness

Layer / File(s) Summary
Session setup and error propagation
integration/harness.go, integration/harness_test.go
OpenSession returns setup errors. Open handles configured skips, test failures, and session cleanup. Schema construction and dataset kind scanning return errors. Tests check missing-connection and driver-mismatch errors.
Graph cleanup lifecycle
integration/harness.go, integration/pgsql_delete_by_kind_test.go, integration/pgsql_delete_relationships_by_kind_test.go, integration/wipe_graph_test.go
Session gains graph reset, scoped cleanup registration, and cleanup-mode-aware close methods. The integration tests register graph cleanup with t.Cleanup or RegisterGraphCleanup.

Tests that open a PostgreSQL session without a schema can fail during cleanup despite completing successfully. Fix that cleanup path before merging.

Explanation

The title names the change: integration harness helpers are decoupled from the Go test lifecycle. It uses the conventional commit prefix and includes a ticket reference. It matches the main change in the summary: OpenSession returns errors instead of calling testing fatal methods, and cleanup moves to subtest scope. The title is 77 characters, which is within a normal limit, though the ticket suffix adds some noise.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The pull request description is complete and matches the repository template. It explains the harness refactor, includes the issue reference, identifies the change type, documents unit and integration testing, lists driver impact, and completes the checklist. It does not report the optional full test suite run.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 37.50% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 8 functions across 5 files.

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Major · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Do not fail cleanup when the session has no default graph.

When Open(t, Options{}) connects to PostgreSQL without a schema or kinds, buildSchema returns nil. The PostgreSQL driver then has no default graph. Close calls ResetGraph, which cannot target a graph, so t.Cleanup fails an otherwise successful test. The previous cleanup ignored that error. Skip graph reset when no graph was configured, while still closing the database. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
