  • Rewrites the Hotkeys landing page. The old copy described features the library doesn't have, such as scope priority and press-and-hold gestures, so the new copy sticks to what the library does.
  • Replaces the hero with a live demo that registers page-wide shortcuts (J/K, a G G sequence, X, ⌘S) plus a note textarea that shows single-key shortcuts being ignored while typing.
  • Adds live demos for formatForDisplay across macOS, Windows, and Linux, for useHotkeyHint, and for useHotkeyRecorder with conflict detection. They load client-only through createIsomorphicFn and ClientOnly.
  • Bumps @tanstack/react-hotkeys from 0.10.0 to 0.14.0. Sequences now use useHotkey with an array, and the rebinding copy covers app hotkeys (feat: Unify hotkeys and sequences, and add app hotkeys hotkeys#175).
  • Changes the Hotkeys badge from alpha to beta.

Notes

The demos register real shortcuts on the page, including ⌘S, so the browser's save dialog is suppressed on this route. ⌘K is left alone because the site's search already uses it.

📝 Walkthrough

The hotkeys landing page now presents typed-shortcut guidance and interactive demos. The change adds keycap components, updates the hotkey dependency range, and replaces the previous scope and gesture content.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 601df

The refresh adds interactive hotkey demos, but available evidence does not establish a user-facing failure that should block merging.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to d1d40

The new shortcuts affect keyboard behavior across the landing page, but their actions remain local to the demo. Rebinding has scoped registrations and lifecycle cleanup. No new privileged action or external data flow was identified; compatibility across existing shortcut consumers remains incompletely established.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The directly introduced event-handling scope is the visitor's document while the demos are mounted. The dependency upgrade additionally reaches existing application handlers, including bot mutation triggers, but the inspected demo callbacks do not delegate to those handlers or gain their authority.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Recording starts through an explicit button action. During an active session, the shared recording guard suppresses application shortcut dispatch, and captured keydown events prevent defaults and propagation. Rebinding conflict detection excludes registrations named Quick open; it is not an authorization control.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Registration removal is handle-specific and removes a target's listeners only after its final registration is removed. Recording guards retain pending key-release protection after completion or cancellation, then clean up after releases or window blur. Sequence progress resets when recording intercepts an event.

I checked the selection issue against the current code. The board renders items.slice(0, 6), but J can advance through the entire array. Once there are seven items, it can select an invisible row and X acts on that row.

Let's keep the six-row layout and cap J at Math.min(items.length, 6) - 1. Please check adding enough notes to exceed six rows, then navigating down and toggling the last visible row. That should keep the selection and the action on screen.

Fixed the visible-row selection bound in 7c6e5a1. I added two notes to the five starting items in the browser, pressed J seven times, and confirmed selection stayed on the sixth visible row. X toggled that row. Typing jkx in the note field left the board selection and completion state unchanged.

The full pnpm test suite passed with the locked dependencies, and the commit hook passed again. CI on the new head and the remaining PR review gates still need to clear before merging.
