Cross-agent DeepChat subagents currently ignore the target Agent's default model and execute with the parent model. This change uses the target default when configured, inherits the parent model when unset, and reports an unavailable configured model instead of silently falling back.
When the selected model changes, generation settings come from that model's defaults rather than the parent's overrides. Execution settings are resolved before admission waiting and retained by the child Session for follow-up turns, so Agent default changes affect new delegations. Permission and workdir checks remain live; self clones and ACP targets retain their existing behavior.

262 tests passed across session assignment, lifecycle, session integration, live-delegation safety, and live-delegation service suites, including default selection, unavailable models, and queued/follow-up configuration lifetime.
Cross-Agent subagent assignments now resolve model and generation settings from target Agent defaults or preserved execution configuration. Live delegation captures the resolved settings before admission waiting, and child sessions retain them across follow-up turns.
Cross-Agent assignments select the target’s default model when configured, inherit the parent model when none is configured, and reject unavailable or incomplete configured models. The policy supports preserving supplied execution settings. Tests cover model selection, generation settings, prompts, and permission policy.
Live delegation resolves an execution snapshot before child-session creation and passes the preserve flag when creating the child. Snapshot generation settings include thinkingBudget and reasoningEffort. Tests cover settings retained during admission waiting and follow-up turns.
The change is mergeable, though the follow-up test should also protect generation settings from changing unexpectedly.

The current assertion can detect a changed model when prepareTurn applies the new snapshot to the shared child object. It does not check generationSettings or prove that follow-up did not call resolveSubagentExecutionSnapshot again.

What changed
Cross-agent subagents used to always run on the parent session's model. They now use the target Agent's configured default model, fall back to the parent model when the target has no default, and fail with an explicit error when the configured target model is disabled or unknown.
The model and generation settings are captured when the delegation is created, before admission waiting. Follow-up turns keep that captured configuration; permission mode and workdir checks stay live. The spec update in docs/architecture/proactive-multi-agent-orchestration/spec.md matches the implementation.
Review
Over-design: no.preserveExecutionConfig is the minimum needed to stop the second resolution (session creation) from re-applying the target default. The extra port method exists because only the composition layer holds provider/prompt settings required to sanitize generation settings.
Consistency: yes. The assignment rules follow the existing create-session defaults, error strings follow the existing main-process style, and no UI or i18n change is needed.
Breaking change: intended and documented. Cross-agent delegation can now fail where it previously fell back silently. The new spec text explains this.
Tests: proportionate. Three assignment-policy cases plus one lifetime test covering spawn, queueing, follow-up, and the next delegation. Not excessive.
Logic: sound. The explicit thinkingBudget / reasoningEffort copy in createTurnExecutionSnapshot is deliberate. Persisted settings may not own those keys; without them, sanitization would re-inherit model defaults. This mirrors applyTurnExecutionSnapshot.
Non-blocking notes
Subagent <id> default model is unavailable is also thrown when the target has no preset and the parent model is missing. In that case the message blames the target. Subagent target has no usable model would be accurate for both cases.
A model that is merely disabled in the model list is reported as "unavailable". That matches the app's definition of selectable models, but users may read it as a provider failure. "disabled or unavailable" would be clearer.
Target model resolution now happens in two places: the composition snapshot and the lifecycle assignment. preserveExecutionConfig is the contract between them; future changes must keep both sides aligned.
