Part of the vps2 durable per-view state series — tracked in fork issue 41 (cross-repo: the displayed vs-main diff includes the F1a content this unit branches from until F1a merges).

Issue (created at PR-open time): #1549

What this unit lands at this head

Fix unit F1b (2/3 of the F1 split). F1a landed per-view identity, the durable viewStates pipeline, and the in-memory viewLocalState buffer, but getState() still read every field straight from the shared ContextProxy — so a webview reporting state ignored its own hydrated per-view selections. This PR:

  1. getState() merge — mergedStateValues = { ...contextProxy.getValues(), ...viewLocalState }; every per-view-capable field (mode, currentApiConfigName, apiConfiguration, modeApiConfigs) is served off the merge: a view-local selection beats the shared global value, unset fields fall back to the shared value with existing defaults untouched. apiConfiguration re-merges over the shared profile settings so the flat provider-settings mutation path stays coherent. The read path stays side-effect free.
  2. F1a shared-code fixes ported in (this round): temporary-id ownership (wroteUnderTemporaryViewStateId — first write claims the slot, load and re-key only touch entries this instance authored, authorship recorded only after the durable write lands), shared-write rollback in setValue / setValues when per-view persistence fails, and the null-prototype copy in getPersistedViewStates.
  3. Spec coverage — the getState-merging and local-state-isolation describes, the ported F1a regression tests (ownership, rollback), and the default-surface pinning tests.

The webview launch-identity wiring that registers stable ids (F1c) lands in the follow-up.

Content source

Hand-ported from CS e9a44b2fa (fork PR 43 head): the getState merge hunks and the getState-merging spec describes; the F1a snapshot on this branch carries the same review-round fixes as the F1a PR head (ported this round, with two tests adapted to the ownership semantics).

Budget

a+d vs merge-base 89a90f513: 5435 (+5025/−410) — includes the shared F1a content until F1a merges; the F1b-specific delta is the getState() region in ClineProvider.ts (~104 executable lines) plus spec coverage. Over the 400 soft budget; split decision belongs to maintainers.

How to test

  • pnpm --dir src exec vitest run core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.sticky-mode.spec.ts activate/__tests__/registerCommands.spec.ts
  • Manual: two views with different modes; the webview of each view reports its own mode/profile in state messages instead of the shared selection.

Verification numbers

  • eslint --max-warnings=0 on all changed files: pass; suppression counts never increased (ClineProvider.spec.ts 196→194 re-measured, ClineProvider.ts 7, sticky-mode.spec.ts 26, registerCommands.ts 1).
  • vitest: ClineProvider.spec + sticky-mode.spec + registerCommands.spec 362 pass; sticky-profile + taskHistory + ContextProxy + importExport specs 191 pass (3 ProviderSettingsManager migration tests fail locally only — they read a types constant the stale local types build lacks; CI builds types from source).
  • tsc --noEmit: no new real errors (all local errors are the stale-types class; CI builds types from source).
  • Negative control on the ported ownership fix: reverting the first-write claim reddens exactly the ported regression test; restored byte-exact (sha256 match).
  • prettier --check on the full merge-ref tree (LF-normalized): pass.
  • mutation-diff advisory: extension package 638 changed executable lines (limit 500) — inherited from the shared F1a content on this branch, not new in this unit; maintainer decision.

Updated this round

  • Merged upstream/main (conflicts in registerCommands.ts, ClineProvider.ts, and both spec fixtures resolved keeping both sides; constructor call sites gained the webviewFocusTracker argument).
  • Ported the F1a review-round fixes into the shared per-view code (ownership, authorship-after-persistence, setter rollback, null-prototype map) with the regression tests; adapted two pre-existing tests to the ownership semantics (register a stable id before forcing a load failure; author the temporary entry through the real write path before re-key).
  • eslint-suppressions re-measured; PR body rewritten.

Pre-merge ERROR-row pre-check (head 8c9c55f)

  • Security Boundaries / view-state id rows: addressed at 8c9c55f. setViewStateId now rejects non-string ids (crafted postMessage), bounds the key length (MAX_VIEW_STATE_ID_LENGTH), and refuses ids already owned by another live instance; a refused view stays on its temporary id against shared state. Regression tests: non-string, oversized, claimed-by-another-view. Negative controls: disabling the ownership check reddens exactly the claim test; widening the length bound reddens exactly the oversized test; restores byte-exact (hash match).
  • Persistence Integrity setValues/setValue ordering rows: verified already addressed by the pushed code: _saveViewLocalStateFromMutation persists the non-secret subset before updating the buffer; the re-key is a single queued write (no delete-then-write window; authorship clears only after the write lands); the mutation hook keeps the buffer synced across setValue/setValues and profile upsert/activation/deletion.
  • Proofs at 8c9c55f: sticky-mode 33/33; eslint --max-warnings=0 clean; tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines; prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.
  • Non-activating saves (upsertProviderProfile with activate=false, and the zoo-gateway callback's non-active path) rewrote the profile on disk but left pinned views serving the pre-save snapshot; the non-activating branch now refreshes pinned sibling views (and this view when it holds the pin), and the callback routes through upsertProviderProfile so the refresh cannot be forgotten.
  • getState() no longer spreads the pinned overlay over the shared provider settings (a key the profile never defined leaked in from the shared profile: model id, region, tuning). The overlay is a complete snapshot: used in place, with only apiProvider falling back to shared state.
  • Regression tests: "refreshes views pinned to a profile saved without activation"; "does not leak shared provider keys into a pinned view's api configuration; the zoo-gateway callback test asserts the upsert path.
  • Negative controls: dropping the else-branch refresh reddens exactly the refresh test, reverting the merge semantics reddens exactly the leak test; restores byte-exact (hash match).
  • Proofs at e0e540e: ClineProvider.spec green, sticky-mode and webviewMessageHandler green, eslint --max-warnings=0 clean, tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines, prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.

Follow-up: overlay read from the view buffer (required-lane fix)

The previous round's overlay-completeness change read the overlay from the merged state values, which also carry the raw apiConfiguration state key. That key is a partial patch written by shared-store paths, not a view snapshot: with no overlay present and the raw key partial, getState() served only the partial object and dropped the shared provider settings the previous merge produced (the parallel-mode activation tests caught exactly this - the activated profile's model id vanished; required lane red on the units carrying that spec). The overlay is now read from the view buffer itself, where a present value is by contract a complete profile and an absent one means the shared store serves the settings.

Proofs: ClineProvider.parallelMode.spec green where present (the six synchronization tests that regressed), ClineProvider.spec green including the overlay-completeness tests, sticky-mode and webviewMessageHandler green; negative control: reverting the overlay to a shallow merge over the shared settings still reddens exactly the leak test; restores byte-exact (hash match); eslint --max-warnings=0 clean; tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines; prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.

Follow-up: active task handlers rebuilt on non-activating saves (head 08af5cb)

A review round on the view-identity unit found that the non-activating-save refresh updated pinned views' buffers but not their active tasks' API handlers, and the posted state prefers the task's own apiConfiguration: a conversation running in a view pinned to the saved profile kept sending the old token (e.g. after the Zoo Gateway callback rotated it) even though the view's buffer had caught up. The refresh now rebuilds the affected tasks' handlers in the pinned views, and the non-activating branch rebuilds this view's own handler when it holds the pin.

Proofs: ClineProvider.spec green (the pinned-sibling refresh test now asserts the active task's handler is rebuilt with the saved settings, not just the private buffer); negative control: dropping the rebuild from the refresh reddens exactly that assertion, restores byte-exact (hash match); parallelMode/sticky-mode/webviewMessageHandler green; eslint --max-warnings=0 clean; tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines; prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.

Follow-up: test-quality round from the review (head ef73863)

The review round on the api-wiring unit named four test-quality issues; the ones present in this unit are fixed here: the viewStates describe block moved out of the alwaysDenyUnapprovedCommands block (test names carried the wrong subject), the prune test's toBeDefined() survival checks replaced with exact-shape toEqual assertions (they pass even if pruning strips fields), the stale-temporary-entry test's fixed 10 ms wait replaced with awaiting the load itself (the negative assertion could pass vacuously on a slow load), and the readiness-cancel test's fake timers restored in a finally block (a failed assertion left fake timers active and hung a later real-timer test).

Proofs: global-settings 9/9 where present, ClineProvider.spec green, sticky-mode green where present, api-task-control green where present; negative controls: pruning that strips updatedAt reddens exactly the prune test, a loadViewState that adopts the unowned temporary-id entry reddens exactly the stale-entry test, restores byte-exact (hash match); eslint --max-warnings=0 clean (src and types); prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.

Follow-up: review-round fixes from the series (head 6efdad3)

A review round on the mode-profile-writes unit found that the profile-deletion re-pin updated each sibling view's buffer but not its running task: the posted state prefers the task's own apiConfiguration, so a conversation in a view pinned to the deleted profile kept sending the deleted profile's settings. The re-pin now rebuilds the sibling's API handler with the replacement's settings and re-points the task's sticky profile name, mirroring the activation path.

Proofs: ClineProvider.spec and sticky-mode green; eslint --max-warnings=0 clean; tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines; prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED. The rebuild's negative control (dropping it reddens exactly the sibling re-pin test, byte-exact restore) runs in the units that own that test.

Updated this round (CodeRabbit follow-up, head 50aa367)

  • Non-activating profile saves no longer force-rebuild the API handler of a view whose active task follows a different sticky profile: both rebuild sites are guarded by taskApiConfigName === saved profile; pinned-view overlays still refresh. Regression tests cover both sites (negative control: removing either guard reddens exactly its test).
  • Test hygiene: prune assertions compare full kept entries; the two re-key storage tests seed viewStates through the durable write path so their assertions can fail.
  • Verified: ClineProvider.spec 285 green, sticky-mode 33 green, eslint --max-warnings=0 clean, tsc real=0, prettier clean.

Updated this round (CodeRabbit follow-up 2, head 66f5945)

  • Deleted-profile re-pin: the forced task-handler rebuild and the sticky-name rewrite now require taskApiConfigName === deleted profile (the view-buffer re-pin stays unconditional), so a pinned view whose task follows another sticky profile keeps its conversation's settings and persisted profile name. Regression test included (negative control: removing the guard reddens exactly that test).
  • Verified: ClineProvider.spec 286 green, sticky-mode 33 green, eslint --max-warnings=0 clean, tsc real=0, prettier clean.

Stryker suppression comments removed

Per the AGENTS.md policy (never add Stryker directives; remove them when a file is touched), all // Stryker disable directives were dropped from this PR. Equivalence rationale for the removed suppressions:

  • Stryker disable next-line ConditionalExpression: defensive clobber guard, unreachable per the ordering argument above.
  • Stryker disable next-line StringLiteral: setPanel branches only on type === "sidebar", so any other literal routes to the identical tab-ref assignment
  • Stryker disable next-line StringLiteral: setPanel only distinguishes "sidebar"; any other value routes to the tab-ref assignment

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added dedicated Plus, Settings, Marketplace, and History controls for editor tabs.
    • Keeps each view’s mode and provider-profile selection separate and restores them across reloads.
    • Reuses an existing editor tab when available instead of opening duplicates during overlapping actions.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Routes commands to the intended sidebar or editor tab, including when a tab is unavailable or closed.
    • Keeps machine-specific view selections out of settings exports and imports.
    • Improves handling of missing provider profiles and interrupted mode changes.

The change adds persisted state isolation for webviews and excludes per-view state from settings transfer. It adds tab-specific commands and provider routing, and updates mode switching, history restoration, profile handling, and tab-panel lifecycle behavior.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to cd903

Per-view selections affect which service receives task data, but a view’s profile label can diverge from its effective connection settings. Resetting settings can also leave other open views holding usable cached credentials. The demonstrated scope is the extension’s local views and configured services, not a new remote or cross-tenant authority boundary.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: A view’s pinned profile identity is not bound to its effective API configuration. Activation and upsert persist the local profile name but clear the API configuration overlay. After another view activates a different profile, the first view still reports its own profile name while new tasks consume the other profile’s shared connection settings. Unlike the base, identity and configuration no longer follow the same shared selection. This can route task data to an unintended configured service. Durable-write failures can additionally leave the old pin alongside newly committed shared settings.
  • Medium · security · inferred: Resetting shared settings invalidates only the initiating view’s local cache. Another live view that hydrated a profile can retain its API configuration, including credentials, after shared state and stored profiles are reset. Because the merged read gives that overlay precedence and task creation consumes it, new tasks in that sibling view can continue using pre-reset credentials. The base lacked this additional cached configuration path; existing running-task credential retention is not attributed to this PR.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The supported concerns affect live views sharing an extension settings/profile context and tasks using their configured API services. They can change effective data destinations or retain credentials locally. No new webview-controlled cross-view identity adoption or cross-tenant authority was demonstrated at this head.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — Ordinary profile selection in a sibling view can change the shared API configuration while another view retains a different profile label. Starting a task in that first view consumes the changed configuration. This supports unintended-service exposure, not a demonstrated unauthenticated attacker or verified policy bypass.
  • inferred — A sibling with hydrated credentials can retain them through another view’s global reset and supply them to a subsequently created task. Clearing the shared store is counterevidence against durable secret retention, but does not invalidate that live sibling’s overlay.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Task creation retains organization allow-list validation before constructing a Task owned by the receiving provider. Panel lookup uses the actual VS Code view object. These controls limit the supported concerns but do not establish consistency between a profile label, cached credentials, and effective connection settings.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Hydration rejects superseded identities and preserves fields changed during asynchronous loading. Failed persistence does not poison the shared write queue, and mode switching attempts shared-state rollback on durable failure. These controls do not reconcile partially committed profile transitions or invalidate sibling caches during reset.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Define one coherent per-view profile/configuration commit and explicit reconciliation after partial failure. Global credential reset should invalidate every live view’s configuration cache before new tasks can consume it.
  • proposed — Before wiring stable webview identity adoption, bind identity to the owning view and require collision-free identifiers rather than treating syntax normalization as ownership validation. This is a follow-up design safeguard, not an observed reachable vulnerability in the reviewed head.

Full details: Regression Evidence

Explanation

The changed rejection path still lacks focused coverage. ClineProvider.postMessageToWebview now catches rejected webview.postMessage calls and logs [postMessageToWebview] dropped message type=... at src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:1869-1875. The existing test at src/core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts:1272-1282 only asserts that the call resolves. It does not flush the rejection handler or assert the log, and no test covers the non-Error String(error) branch.

Full details: Persistence Integrity

Explanation

The prior persistence failure remains. The PR adds view-local durable writes to non-atomic profile mutations. upsertProviderProfile saves the profile at ClineProvider.ts:2349, then starts list, current selection, mode mapping, provider settings, and view-state work in Promise.all at 2366-2379. activateProviderProfileUnlocked first persists the manager's active profile at 2584, then starts another Promise.all at 2594-2606. If savePersistedViewState rejects at 618 through ContextProxy.setValue, the other writes can still commit. setValue only restores the shared selection at 3876-3885; it does not restore the profile store, mode mapping, profile list, provider settings, viewStates map, or the ContextProxy cache. The cache is updated before storage at ContextProxy.ts:366-373, so a failed viewStates update can leave divergent durable and cached state. These paths are changed by the PR because the new setValue and view-local persistence calls are now part of both profile Promise.all groups.

Resolution

Make profile upsert and activation coordinated transactions or add explicit compensation. Snapshot the profile-store record, mode mapping, profile list, shared settings, local overlay, and durable viewStates entry before writes. If any write fails, await restoration of every completed layer, including the provider store, viewStates durable value, ContextProxy cache, and local buffer. Report rollback failures separately. Add failure tests for viewStates rejection during profile upsert, profile activation, and mode switching, including a fresh-provider or reload assertion.

Full details: Lifecycle Resource Cleanup

Explanation

The cancellation defect remains in changed provider-profile paths. enqueueProviderProfileMutation() still advances providerProfileMutationQueue from the timeout-bounded callerResult at src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:302-307, while the underlying run continues after AbortController.abort(). The changed upsertProviderProfile() and activateProviderProfileUnlocked() paths await local-state writes and refreshViewLocalStateForUpdatedProfile() without checking signal.aborted afterward. A write that exceeds 30 seconds can therefore time out, allow the next mutation to start, and then let the cancelled mutation refresh sibling views, rebuild task handlers, persist task state, post webview state, and emit ProviderProfileChanged. This is duplicate lifecycle work after cancellation.

Resolution

Keep providerProfileMutationQueue chained to the underlying run until run settles, or otherwise prevent the next mutation from starting while the cancelled mutation is still active. Add abort checks after the changed Promise.all and after each affected-view refresh. Check cancellation before every durable write, task rebuild, task-history write, webview post, and emitted event. If cancellation occurs after a durable write starts, roll it back or mark it committed and suppress later side effects from the cancelled mutation.

…cannot be resolved

When getProfile() fails for the profile being activated, no replacement settings exist, but
the pin was still re-pointed. This view's nested overlay and every other view pinned to the
deleted profile kept serving the deleted profile's configuration under the new name, so
getState() reported a name whose settings belonged to a deleted profile, including its keys.
The overlay is now cleared in both paths.

Tests: 250 passed in ClineProvider.spec.ts; ESLint clean with --max-warnings=0.

Pre-merge checks failed. Please resolve the failing checks before merging.

Conflict resolutions keep both sides:
- registerCommands.ts: our tab-creation serialization + main's typed
  OpenClineInNewTabOptions (webviewFocusTracker threaded through).
- ClineProvider.ts: our non-await dispatch + view guard with main's
  originalContent strip.
- ClineProvider.spec.ts / registerCommands.spec.ts: both sides' tests;
constructor call sites gained the webviewFocusTracker argument.

Port F1a review-round fixes into the shared per-view code:
- temporary-id ownership (wroteUnderTemporaryViewStateId): first write
claims the slot, load and re-key only touch entries this instance
authored, authorship recorded only after the durable write lands.
- setValue/setValues roll back the shared write when per-view
  persistence fails.
- getPersistedViewStates copies onto a null prototype.
- Ported regression tests (sticky-mode persisted view state keys,
setter rollback) and adapted two tests to the ownership semantics.

eslint-suppressions re-measured: ClineProvider.spec 196 -> 194.
…ting it

The stable view state id arrives over the webview postMessage channel, so the
declared string type is not a guarantee: a crafted message could carry a
non-string value (which the sanitizer would crash on), an unbounded string
(unbounded growth in the shared viewStates map), or an id another live view
already owns (adopting it would load that view's pinned profile, overlay and
mode here, and let this webview overwrite that view's persisted entry).
setViewStateId now rejects non-strings, bounds the key length, and refuses
ids claimed by another live instance; a refused view stays on its temporary
id and keeps working against the shared state.

Proofs: ClineProvider.sticky-mode.spec 32/32 (3 new tests: non-string,
oversized, claimed-by-another-view); negative controls: disabling the
ownership check reddens exactly the claim test, widening the length bound
reddens exactly the oversized test, restores byte-exact (hash match);
eslint --max-warnings=0 clean; tsc clean except the two known local
telemetry-dist noise lines; prettier ALL-MATCHED on touched files.

2394-2398: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift

This problem is still present: a view pinned to another profile without an overlay drifts when a different view writes the shared provider settings.

An earlier review thread reported this sequence and marked it addressed. The current code still allows it.

How it fails:

  1. The sidebar activates profile A. Lines 2605-2609 clear the sidebar overlay, so the sidebar now reads A's settings from the shared ContextProxy provider keys.
  2. The tab activates profile B. contextProxy.setProviderSettings(B) overwrites the shared keys.
  3. refreshViewLocalStateForUpdatedProfile("B", …) updates only views pinned to "B". The sidebar is pinned to "A", so it is skipped.
  4. The sidebar getState() returns currentApiConfigName: "A" with B's provider, model, and keys.

deleteProviderProfile has the same effect at Line 2516 when deletedWasGlobal is true. It calls setProviderSettings(survivingSettings) and changes the configuration of every view pinned elsewhere that has no overlay.

The sidebar then sends tasks to B while its UI shows A.

Fix: before any shared setProviderSettings write, find each other live view whose pinnedProfileName is set, differs from the new name, and has no apiConfiguration overlay. Give each of those views an overlay with its own pinned profile's settings, resolved through providerSettingsManager.getProfile. Add a two-provider test for the sequence above.

335-342: Check that the tab-reuse path cannot leave a stale pendingTabPanelCreation.

createTabPanelUnlocked runs synchronously up to its first await. If no tab is tracked, that first await is ContextProxy.getInstance. Because openClineInNewTab stores creation before it awaits, the next caller always sees the pending slot. The finally block then clears the slot after the creation settles or rejects. A failed creation therefore does not wedge later calls. No defect was found here.

… view overlay as a complete profile

Two review findings on the view-local profile buffer:

1. A save that does not activate (upsertProviderProfile with activate=false,
and the zoo-gateway callback's non-active profile path) rewrote the profile's
settings on disk but left every view pinned to it serving the pre-save
snapshot from its buffer. The non-activating branch now refreshes pinned
sibling views (and this view when it holds the pin), and the callback routes
non-active profiles through upsertProviderProfile instead of a bare
saveConfig so the refresh cannot be forgotten at that call site.

2. getState() spread the pinned overlay over the shared provider settings, so
any key the pinned profile never defined leaked in from whatever profile the
shared store points at (another profile's model id, region, tuning). The
overlay is a complete profile snapshot: it is now used in place, with only
apiProvider falling back to the shared state when the profile omits one.

Proofs: ClineProvider.spec 283/283 (2 new tests: pinned-sibling refresh on
non-activating save; no shared-key leak through the overlay; callback test
updated to assert the upsert path); negative controls: dropping the
else-branch refresh reddens exactly the refresh test, reverting the merge
semantics reddens exactly the leak test, restores byte-exact (hash match);
eslint --max-warnings=0 clean; tsc clean except the two known local
telemetry-dist noise lines; prettier clean on touched files.

The overlay-completeness fix read the overlay from the merged state values,
which also carry the raw apiConfiguration state key. That key is a partial
patch written by shared-store paths, not a view snapshot: when a view had
no overlay but the raw key held a partial object, getState() served only
that partial object and dropped the shared provider settings the previous
merge produced (activation tests caught exactly this: the activated
profile's model id vanished). Read the overlay from the view buffer
itself, where a present value is by contract a complete profile and an
absent one means the shared store serves the settings.

Proofs: ClineProvider.parallelMode.spec green (the six activation/upsert/
delete synchronization tests that regressed), ClineProvider.spec green
including the overlay-completeness tests, sticky-mode and
webviewMessageHandler green; negative control: reverting the overlay to a
shallow merge over the shared settings still reddens exactly the leak
test; restores byte-exact (hash match); eslint --max-warnings=0 clean;
prettier clean; tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist
noise lines.

…aved

A non-activating save refreshed the pinned views' buffers but not their
active tasks' API handlers, and the posted state prefers the task's own
apiConfiguration: a conversation running in a view pinned to the saved
profile kept sending the old token (e.g. after the Zoo Gateway callback
rotated it) even though the view's buffer had caught up. The refresh now
rebuilds the affected tasks' handlers in the sibling views, and the
non-activating branch rebuilds this view's own handler when it holds the
pin.

Proofs: ClineProvider.spec 258/258 (the pinned-sibling refresh test now
asserts the active task's handler is rebuilt with the saved settings, not
just the private buffer); negative control: dropping the rebuild from the
refresh reddens exactly that assertion, restores byte-exact (hash match);
sticky-mode 32/32, webviewMessageHandler 82/82; eslint
--max-warnings=0 clean; prettier clean.
check deterministic, restore timers in finally

Review round on this unit's test quality: the viewStates describe block was
nested inside the alwaysDenyUnapprovedCommands block, so reported test names
carried the wrong subject; the prune test asserted survival with toDefined(),
which passes even if pruning strips fields - the surviving entries are fully
known, so assert their exact shape (matching the parallel-mode suite); the
stale-temporary-entry test waited on a fixed 10 ms timer, so a slow load
could let the negative assertion pass vacuously - await the load itself;
the readiness-cancel test left fake timers active when an assertion failed
before the restore line, hanging a later real-timer test - restore in a
finally block.

Proofs: global-settings 9/9, ClineProvider.spec 294/294, sticky-mode 33/33,
api-task-control 23/23; negative controls: pruning that strips updatedAt
reddens exactly the prune test, a loadViewState that adopts the unowned
temporary-id entry reddens exactly the stale-entry test, restores
byte-exact (hash match); eslint --max-warnings=0 clean (src and types);
prettier clean.

Review-round fix on the shared code this unit carries:
rePinViewLocalStateForDeletedProfile updated each sibling's buffer but not
its running task: the posted state prefers the task's own
apiConfiguration, so a conversation in a view pinned to the deleted
profile kept sending the deleted profile's settings - the re-pin now
rebuilds the sibling's API handler with the replacement's settings and
re-points the task's sticky profile name, mirroring the activation path.
Tested by the sibling re-pin assertions in the unit that owns the parallel
mode suite; this unit's suites confirm the port is behavior-preserving
for its own coverage.

Proofs: ClineProvider.spec and sticky-mode green; eslint
--max-warnings=0 clean; prettier clean.
Port of the sibling-unit fix: a non-activating profile save force-rebuilt the API handler of every view pinned to the saved profile, including views whose active task follows a different sticky profile. Both rebuild sites (the acting view's pinned branch and the pinned-sibling refresh) are now guarded by a taskApiConfigName match; the pinned view's overlay still refreshes. Regression tests cover both sites.

Test hygiene: prune assertions compare full kept entries; the two re-key storage tests seed viewStates through the durable write path so their assertions can fail.
…wn profile

Port of the sibling-unit fix: a view pinned to a deleted profile can hold a task that follows a different sticky profile: the deletion re-pin must re-point the view buffer but must not force the replacement's settings onto that conversation's handler, nor rewrite its persisted sticky profile name. Both task-side writes are now gated on a taskApiConfigName match with the deleted profile, mirroring the profile-save rebuild guards. Regression test included.

src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:2268
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Use this view's pinned profile, not the shared one, when saving the default config for a new mode.

When the new mode has no saved config, this branch maps the mode to getGlobalState("currentApiConfigName"). Views can now pin their own profile through viewLocalState. If this view is pinned to profile A while the shared selection is B, switching to an unmapped mode in this view maps the mode to B. The next switch into that mode in any view then activates B, which this view never selected.

403-405: 🩺 Stability & Availability

The stale-reference scenario is not established. ClineProvider.ts:1414 only records a panel that was already supplied; it does not create or deserialize one. The only tab-creation path reuses a live tracked provider before creating a new panel. The extension registers a sidebar provider and no tab-panel serializer, so the proposed second-panel lifecycle has no repository-supported entry path.
