desktop: no projects/sessions sidebar; "View > Toggle Sidebar" is unresponsive #58101

Open

Description

Summary

In OpenCode Desktop 2.1.2 (new tab-based UI) there is no persistent sidebar listing projects and their sessions like other AI coding clients (e.g. Codex) provide. The leftover menu item View > Toggle Sidebar does nothing, which makes navigating multiple projects and chats very disorienting.

Environment

  • opencode version: 2.1.2 (Desktop, release channel)
  • OS: Windows 10 22H2 (Windows_NT 10.0.19045, x64)
  • Terminal: Unavailable: desktop app, no terminal involved
  • Shell: C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe
  • Install/channel: latest release (installed 2026-10-22 from opencode.ai)
  • Active plugins: none

Reproduction

  1. Install and open OpenCode Desktop 2.1.2 on Windows.
  2. Open any project and start or resume a session.
  3. Click View > Toggle Sidebar in the application menu (shortcut shown as Ctrl+`).

Expected Behavior

One of the following:

  • A toggleable left sidebar listing projects with their sessions/chats (similar to Codex and other desktop AI coding clients), OR
  • If the tab-based UI intentionally replaced the sidebar, the dead menu item should be removed or remapped to a view that actually exists.

Actual Behavior

Nothing happens — no visual change in the layout.

Notes from inspecting the installed app bundle (resources/app.asar, v2.1.2):

  • The menu item dispatches the sidebar.toggle command.
  • The only sidebar implementation found in the bundle is the diff viewer panel (it carries diff title/stats/file filtering), not a projects/sessions list. So the toggle only has meaning inside the diff view and is a no-op during normal session work.

Thanks for the detailed report and for digging into the app bundle! I think this is a duplicate of #55536.

You're right about the cause. The View → Toggle Sidebar item sends sidebar.toggle, but the app never registers a command with that id, so the item does nothing. Work on this is in progress in #57919 and #56930.

Your request for a projects/sessions sidebar is already tracked as feature requests. Related issues, ordered by likelihood:

Until then, Settings → General → Tabs → "Vertical" shows your tabs as a list on the side, which some users in #55536 found close to a session sidebar.

Please follow those issues and add your 👍 or details there. The bot will close this issue as a duplicate in 1 day unless you reply explaining how your problem is different.
