memory-research asks the agent to search the web, and Basic Memory does not ship that tool. Point hosts without search at the free Parallel Search MCP setup, and leave an existing search tool in place.

memory-research tells the agent to search the web, but installing Basic Memory only adds note tools. If the host already has web search, nothing changes. If it doesn't, the skill and the skills README now point at the free Parallel Search MCP setup.
That setup does not need an account or API key. The free tier has lower rate limits. Notes stay local, and the agent still asks before saving one. No new dependency and no change to the default tools.
Docs checked against https://docs.parallel.ai/integrations/mcp/search-mcp on 2026-09-21. Search API quality and task time are charted on DeepSearchQA results and time per task. Those charts describe the search API, not this documentation change.
