…eues Because there was no way to directly dispatch to the local DSQ of a remote CPU from ops.enqueue(), scx_qmap skipped looking for an idle CPU on !wakeup enqueues. This restriction was removed and sched_ext now allows SCX_DSQ_LOCAL_ON verdicts for direct dispatches. Factor out pick_direct_dispatch_cpu() from ops.select_cpu() and use it to direct dispatch from ops.enqueue() on !wakeup enqueues. We currently only allow calling sleepable scx kfuncs (i.e. scx_bpf_create_dsq()) from BPF_PROG_TYPE_STRUCT_OPS progs. The idea here was that we'd never have to call scx_bpf_create_dsq() outside of a sched_ext struct_ops callback, but that might not actually be true. For example, a scheduler could do something like the following: 1. Open and load (not yet attach) a scheduler skel 2. Synchronously call into a BPF_PROG_TYPE_SYSCALL prog from user space. For example, to initialize an LLC domain, or some other global, read-only state. 3. Attach the skel, which actually enables the scheduler The advantage of doing this is that it can preclude having to do pretty ugly boilerplate like initializing a read-only, statically sized array of u64[]'s which the kernel consumes literally once at init time to then create struct bpf_cpumask objects which are actually queried at runtime. Doing the above is already possible given that we can invoke core BPF kfuncs, such as bpf_cpumask_create(), from BPF_PROG_TYPE_SYSCALL progs. We already allow many scx kfuncs to be called from BPF_PROG_TYPE_SYSCALL progs (e.g. scx_bpf_kick_cpu()). Let's allow the sleepable kfuncs as well. From 1232da7eced620537a78f19c8cf3d4a3508e2419 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Tejun Heo <tj@kernel.org> Date: Wed, 31 Jul 2024 09:14:52 -1000 p->scx.disallow provides a way for the BPF scheduler to reject certain tasks from attaching. It's currently allowed for both the load and fork paths; however, the latter doesn't actually work as p->sched_class is already set by the time scx_ops_init_task() is called during fork. This is a convenience feature which is mostly useful from the load path anyway. …tick() The way sched_can_stop_tick() used scx_can_stop_tick() was rather confusing and the behavior wasn't ideal when SCX is enabled in partial mode. Simplify it so that: - scx_can_stop_tick() can say no if scx_enabled(). - CFS tests rq->cfs.nr_running > 1 instead of rq->nr_running. This is easier to follow and leads to the correct answer whether SCX is disabled, enabled in partial mode or all tasks are switched to SCX. Peter, note that this is a bit different from your suggestion where sched_can_stop_tick() unconditionally returns scx_can_stop_tick() iff scx_switched_all(). The problem is that in partial mode, tick can be stopped when there is only one SCX task even if the BPF scheduler didn't ask and isn't ready for it. …ev_task_balance() SCX needs its balance() invoked even when waking up from a lower priority sched class (idle) and put_prev_task_balance() thus has the logic to promote @start_class if it's lower than ext_sched_class. On SMP, SCX performs dispatch from sched_class->balance(). As balance() was not available in UP, it instead called the internal balance function from put_prev_task_scx() and pick_next_task_scx() to emulate the effect, which is rather nasty. Enabling sched_class->balance() on UP shouldn't cause any meaningful overhead. Enable balance() on UP and drop the ugly workaround. …n_cpu() task_can_run_on_remote_rq() is similar to is_cpu_allowed() but there are subtle differences. It currently open codes all the tests. This is cumbersome to understand and error-prone in case the intersecting tests need to be updated. Factor out the common part - testing whether the task is allowed on the CPU at all regardless of the CPU state - into task_allowed_on_cpu() and make both is_cpu_allowed() and SCX's task_can_run_on_remote_rq() use it. As the code is now linked between the two and each contains only the extra tests that differ between them, it's less error-prone when the conditions need to be updated. Also, improve the comment to explain why they are different. v2: Replace accidental "extern inline" with "static inline" (Peter). process_ddsp_deferred_locals() executes deferred direct dispatches to the local DSQs of remote CPUs. It iterates the tasks on rq->scx.ddsp_deferred_locals list, removing and calling dispatch_to_local_dsq() on each. However, the list is protected by the rq lock that can be dropped by dispatch_to_local_dsq() temporarily, so the list can be modified during the iteration, which can lead to oopses and other failures. Fix it by popping from the head of the list instead of iterating the list. … SCX_RQ_ONLINE scx_rq_online() currently only tests SCX_RQ_ONLINE. This isn't fully correct - e.g. consume_dispatch_q() uses task_run_on_remote_rq() which tests scx_rq_online() to see whether the current rq can run the task, and, if so, calls consume_remote_task() to migrate the task to @rq. While the test itself was done while locking @rq, @rq can be temporarily unlocked by consume_remote_task() and nothing prevents SCX_RQ_ONLINE from going offline before the migration takes place. To address the issue, add cpu_active() test to scx_rq_online(). There is a synchronize_rcu() between cpu_active() being cleared and the rq going offline, so if an on-going scheduling operation sees cpu_active(), the associated rq is guaranteed to not go offline until the scheduling operation is complete. sched_ext currently doesn't generate messages when the BPF scheduler is enabled and disabled unless there are errors. It is useful to have paper trail. Improve logging around enable/disable: - Generate info messages on enable and non-error disable. - Update error exit message formatting so that it's consistent with non-error message. Also, prefix ei->msg with the BPF scheduler's name to make it clear where the message is coming from. - Shorten scx_exit_reason() strings for SCX_EXIT_UNREG* for brevity and consistency. v2: Use pr_*() instead of KERN_* consistently. consume_remote_task() and dispatch_to_local_dsq() use move_task_to_local_dsq() to migrate the task to the target CPU. Currently, move_task_to_local_dsq() expects the caller to lock both the source and destination rq's. While this may save a few lock operations while the rq's are not contended, under contention, the double locking can exacerbate the situation significantly (refer to the linked message below). Update the migration path so that double locking is not used. move_task_to_local_dsq() now expects the caller to be locking the source rq, drops it and then acquires the destination rq lock. Code is simpler this way and, on a 2-way NUMA machine w/ Xeon Gold 6138, 'hackbench 100 thread 5000` shows ~3% improvement with scx_simple. ARRAY_ELEM_PTR() is an access macro used to help the BPF verifier not
confused by offseted memory acceeses by yiedling a valid pointer or NULL in
a way that's clear to the verifier. As such, the canonical usage involves
checking NULL return from the macro. Note that in many cases, the NULL
condition can never happen - they're there just to hint the verifier.
In a bpf_loop in scx_central.bpf.c::central_dispatch(), the NULL check was
incorrect in that there was another dereference of the pointer in addition
to the NULL checked access. This worked as the pointer can never be NULL and
the verifier could tell it would never be NULL in this case.
However, this still looks wrong and trips smatch:
./tools/sched_ext/scx_central.bpf.c:205 ____central_dispatch()

…dsq() When deciding whether a task can be migrated to a CPU, dispatch_to_local_dsq() was open-coding p->cpus_allowed and scx_rq_online() tests instead of using task_can_run_on_remote_rq(). This had two problems. - It was missing is_migration_disabled() check and thus could try to migrate a task which shouldn't leading to assertion and scheduling failures. - It was testing p->cpus_ptr directly instead of using task_allowed_on_cpu() and thus failed to consider ISA compatibility. Update dispatch_to_local_dsq() to use task_can_run_on_remote_rq(): - Move scx_ops_error() triggering into task_can_run_on_remote_rq(). - When migration isn't allowed, fall back to the global DSQ instead of the source DSQ by returning DTL_INVALID. …core_sched() Since 3cf78c5 ("sched_ext: Unpin and repin rq lock from balance_scx()"), sched_ext's balance path terminates rq_pin in the outermost function. This is simpler and in line with what other balance functions are doing but it loses control over rq->clock_update_flags which makes assert_clock_udpated() trigger if other CPUs pins the rq lock. The only place this matters is touch_core_sched() which uses the timestamp to order tasks from sibling rq's. Switch to sched_clock_cpu(). Later, it may be better to use per-core dispatch sequence number. v2: Use sched_clock_cpu() instead of ktime_get_ns() per David. If this address is not page-aligned the code ends up calling apply_to_pte_range() with that unaligned address causing soft lockup. Fix it by round up GUARD_SZ to PAGE_SIZE << 1 so that the division by 2 in bpf_arena_get_kern_vm_start() returns a page-aligned value. Fixes: 3174603 ("bpf: Introduce bpf_arena.") [ Upstream commit 2321a95 ] BPF_ST | BPF_PROBE_MEM32 immediate stores are not handled by bpf_jit_blind_insn(), allowing user-controlled 32-bit immediates to survive unblinded into JIT-compiled native code when bpf_jit_harden >= 1. The root cause is that convert_ctx_accesses() rewrites BPF_ST|BPF_MEM to BPF_ST|BPF_PROBE_MEM32 for arena pointer stores during verification, before bpf_jit_blind_constants() runs during JIT compilation. The blinding switch only matches BPF_ST|BPF_MEM (mode 0x60), not BPF_ST|BPF_PROBE_MEM32 (mode 0xa0). The instruction falls through unblinded. Add BPF_ST|BPF_PROBE_MEM32 cases to bpf_jit_blind_insn() alongside the existing BPF_ST|BPF_MEM cases. The blinding transformation is identical: load the blinded immediate into BPF_REG_AX via mov+xor, then convert the immediate store to a register store (BPF_STX). The rewritten STX instruction must preserve the BPF_PROBE_MEM32 mode so the architecture JIT emits the correct arena addressing (R12-based on x86-64). Cannot use the BPF_STX_MEM() macro here because it hardcodes BPF_MEM mode; construct the instruction directly instead. Fixes: 6082b6c ("bpf: Recognize addr_space_cast instruction in the verifier.") Introduce may_goto instruction that from the verifier pov is similar to
open coded iterators bpf_for()/bpf_repeat() and bpf_loop() helper, but it
doesn't iterate any objects.
In assembly 'may_goto' is a nop most of the time until bpf runtime has to
terminate the program for whatever reason. In the current implementation
may_goto has a hidden counter, but other mechanisms can be used.
For programs written in C the later patch introduces 'cond_break' macro
that combines 'may_goto' with 'break' statement and has similar semantics:
cond_break is a nop until bpf runtime has to break out of this loop.
It can be used in any normal "for" or "while" loop, like
for (i = zero; i < cnt; cond_break, i++) {
The verifier recognizes that may_goto is used in the program, reserves
additional 8 bytes of stack, initializes them in subprog prologue, and
replaces may_goto instruction with:
aux_reg = *(u64 *)(fp - 40)
if aux_reg == 0 goto pc+off
aux_reg -= 1
*(u64 *)(fp - 40) = aux_reg
may_goto instruction can be used by LLVM to implement __builtin_memcpy,
__builtin_strcmp.
may_goto is not a full substitute for bpf_for() macro.
bpf_for() doesn't have induction variable that verifiers sees,
so 'i' in bpf_for(i, 0, 100) is seen as imprecise and bounded.
But when the code is written as:
for (i = 0; i < 100; cond_break, i++)
the verifier see 'i' as precise constant zero,
hence cond_break (aka may_goto) doesn't help to converge the loop.
A static or global variable can be used as a workaround:
static int zero = 0;
for (i = zero; i < 100; cond_break, i++) // works!
may_goto works well with arena pointers that don't need to be bounds
checked on access. Load/store from arena returns imprecise unbounded
scalar and loops with may_goto pass the verifier.
Reserve new opcode BPF_JMP | BPF_JCOND for may_goto insn.
JCOND stands for conditional pseudo jump.
Since goto_or_nop insn was proposed, it may use the same opcode.
may_goto vs goto_or_nop can be distinguished by src_reg:
code = BPF_JMP | BPF_JCOND
src_reg = 0 - may_goto
src_reg = 1 - goto_or_nop

[ADAPT] NOTE: structural adaptation of do_misc_fixups() for this base:
- the function is ported from upstream's post-commit form (loop restructured to
`for (i = 0; i < insn_cnt;)` + `next_insn:` label with may_goto stack accounting
and lowering), with two foreign blocks that upstream carried but this base does
not have removed: the exception-callback prologue and the bpf_kptr_xchg inline
block. The older sleepable check form (`!env->prog->sleepable`) from this base is
kept, and the arena addr_space_cast/needs_zext loop-top block (added by the
earlier arena verifier backport) is re-inserted verbatim at the loop top.
All may_goto-specific lines are upstream-verbatim.
- is_async_callback_calling_insn() (context from the async-callback feature) is not
imported; only is_may_goto_insn()/is_may_goto_insn_at() are added.
- include/linux/bpf_verifier.h: may_goto_depth added next to the DEEPIN_KABI_RESERVE
slots; stack_extra auto-merged into bpf_subprog_info.

When open code iterators, bpf_loop or may_goto are used the following two states are equivalent and safe to prune the search: cur state: fp-8_w=scalar(id=3,smin=umin=smin32=umin32=2,smax=umax=smax32=umax32=11,var_off=(0x0; 0xf)) old state: fp-8_rw=scalar(id=2,smin=umin=smin32=umin32=1,smax=umax=smax32=umax32=11,var_off=(0x0; 0xf)) In other words "exact" state match should ignore liveness and precision marks, since open coded iterator logic didn't complete their propagation, reg_old->type == NOT_INIT && reg_cur->type != NOT_INIT is also not safe to prune while looping, but range_within logic that applies to scalars, ptr_to_mem, map_value, pkt_ptr is safe to rely on. Avoid doing such comparison when regular infinite loop detection logic is used, otherwise bounded loop logic will declare such "infinite loop" as false positive. Such example is in progs/verifier_loops1.c not_an_inifinite_loop(). When the following program is processed by the verifier:
L1: may_goto L2
goto L1
L2: w0 = 0
exit
the may_goto insn is first converted to:
L1: r11 = *(u64 *)(r10 -8)
if r11 == 0x0 goto L2
r11 -= 1
*(u64 *)(r10 -8) = r11
goto L1
L2: w0 = 0
exit
then later as the last step the verifier inserts:
*(u64 *)(r10 -8) = BPF_MAX_LOOPS
as the first insn of the program to initialize loop count.
When the first insn happens to be a branch target of some jmp the
bpf_patch_insn_data() logic will produce:
L1: *(u64 *)(r10 -8) = BPF_MAX_LOOPS
r11 = *(u64 *)(r10 -8)
if r11 == 0x0 goto L2
r11 -= 1
*(u64 *)(r10 -8) = r11
goto L1
L2: w0 = 0
exit
because instruction patching adjusts all jmps and calls, but for this
particular corner case it's incorrect and the L1 label should be one
instruction down, like:
*(u64 *)(r10 -8) = BPF_MAX_LOOPS
L1: r11 = *(u64 *)(r10 -8)
if r11 == 0x0 goto L2
r11 -= 1
*(u64 *)(r10 -8) = r11
goto L1
L2: w0 = 0
exit
and that's what this patch is fixing.
After bpf_patch_insn_data() call adjust_jmp_off() to adjust all jmps
that point to newly insert BPF_ST insn to point to insn after.
Note that bpf_patch_insn_data() cannot easily be changed to accommodate
this logic, since jumps that point before or after a sequence of patched
instructions have to be adjusted with the full length of the patch.
Conceptually it's somewhat similar to "insert" of instructions between other
instructions with weird semantics. Like "insert" before 1st insn would require
adjustment of CALL insns to point to newly inserted 1st insn, but not an
adjustment JMP insns that point to 1st, yet still adjusting JMP insns that
cross over 1st insn (point to insn before or insn after), hence use simple
adjust_jmp_off() logic to fix this corner case. Ideally bpf_patch_insn_data()
would have an auxiliary info to say where 'the start of newly inserted patch
is', but it would be too complex for backport.

Zac's syzbot crafted a bpf prog that exposed two bugs in may_goto. The 1st bug is the way may_goto is patched. When offset is negative it should be patched differently. The 2nd bug is in the verifier: when current state may_goto_depth is equal to visited state may_goto_depth it means there is an actual infinite loop. It's not correct to prune exploration of the program at this point. Note, that this check doesn't limit the program to only one may_goto insn, since 2nd and any further may_goto will increment may_goto_depth only in the queued state pushed for future exploration. The current state will have may_goto_depth == 0 regardless of number of may_goto insns and the verifier has to explore the program until bpf_exit. [ Upstream commit 6ebc503 ] may_goto uses an additional 8 bytes on the stack, which causes the interpreters[] array to go out of bounds when calculating index by stack_size. 1. If a BPF program is rewritten, re-evaluate the stack size. For non-JIT cases, reject loading directly. 2. For non-JIT cases, calculating interpreters[idx] may still cause out-of-bounds array access, and just warn about it. 3. For jit_requested cases, the execution of bpf_func also needs to be warned. [ Upstream commit bbbc02b ] The bpf_verifier_state.loop_entry state should be copied by copy_verifier_state(). Otherwise, .loop_entry values from unrelated states would poison env->cur_state. Recognize 'void *p__map' kfunc argument as 'struct bpf_map *p__map'.
It allows kfunc to have 'void *' argument for maps, since bpf progs
will call them as:
struct {
__uint(type, BPF_MAP_TYPE_ARENA);
...
} arena SEC(".maps");
bpf_kfunc_with_map(... &arena ...);
Underneath libbpf will load CONST_PTR_TO_MAP into the register via ld_imm64

verifier as well, but bpf prog would need to type cast the argument
(void *)&arena, which is not clean.

Currently, calling any helpers, kfuncs, or subprogs except the graph data structure (lists, rbtrees) API kfuncs while holding a bpf_spin_lock is not allowed. One of the original motivations of this decision was to force the BPF programmer's hand into keeping the bpf_spin_lock critical section small, and to ensure the execution time of the program does not increase due to lock waiting times. In addition to this, some of the helpers and kfuncs may be unsafe to call while holding a bpf_spin_lock. However, when it comes to subprog calls, atleast for static subprogs, the verifier is able to explore their instructions during verification. Therefore, it is similar in effect to having the same code inlined into the critical section. Hence, not allowing static subprog calls in the bpf_spin_lock critical section is mostly an annoyance that needs to be worked around, without providing any tangible benefit. Unlike static subprog calls, global subprog calls are not safe to permit within the critical section, as the verifier does not explore them during verification, therefore whether the same lock will be taken again, or unlocked, cannot be ascertained. Therefore, allow calling static subprogs within a bpf_spin_lock critical section, and only reject it in case the subprog linkage is global. Allow transferring an imbalanced RCU lock state between subprog calls during verification. This allows patterns where a subprog call returns with an RCU lock held, or a subprog call releases an RCU lock held by the caller. Currently, the verifier would end up complaining if the RCU lock is not released when processing an exit from a subprog, which is non-ideal if its execution is supposed to be enclosed in an RCU read section of the caller. Instead, simply only check whether we are processing exit for frame#0 and do not complain on an active RCU lock otherwise. We only need to update the check when processing BPF_EXIT insn, as copy_verifier_state is already set up to do the right thing. Introduce two new BPF kfuncs, bpf_preempt_disable and bpf_preempt_enable. These kfuncs allow disabling preemption in BPF programs. Nesting is allowed, since the intended use cases includes building native BPF spin locks without kernel helper involvement. Apart from that, this can be used to per-CPU data structures for cases where programs (or userspace) may preempt one or the other. Currently, while per-CPU access is stable, whether it will be consistent is not guaranteed, as only migration is disabled for BPF programs. Global functions are disallowed from being called, but support for them will be added as a follow up not just preempt kfuncs, but rcu_read_lock kfuncs as well. Static subprog calls are permitted. Sleepable helpers and kfuncs are disallowed in non-preemptible regions. [ Upstream commit 46f7ed3 ] There are three situations when a program logically exits and transfers control to the kernel or another program: bpf_throw, BPF_EXIT, and tail calls. The former two check for any lingering locks and references, but tail calls currently do not. Expand the checks to check for spin locks, RCU read sections and preempt disabled sections. Spin locks are indirectly preventing tail calls as function calls are disallowed, but the checks for preemption and RCU are more relaxed, hence ensure tail calls are prevented in their presence. The verifier currently does not permit global subprog calls when a lock is held, preemption is disabled, or when IRQs are disabled. This is because we don't know whether the global subprog calls sleepable functions or not. In case of locks, there's an additional reason: functions called by the global subprog may hold additional locks etc. The verifier won't know while verifying the global subprog whether it was called in context where a spin lock is already held by the program. Perform summarization of the sleepable nature of a global subprog just like changes_pkt_data and then allow calls to global subprogs for non-sleepable ones from atomic context. While making this change, I noticed that RCU read sections had no protection against sleepable global subprog calls, include it in the checks and fix this while we're at it. Care needs to be taken to not allow global subprog calls when regular bpf_spin_lock is held. When resilient spin locks is held, we want to potentially have this check relaxed, but not for now. Also make sure extensions freplacing global functions cannot do so in case the target is non-sleepable, but the extension is. The other combination is ok. Tests are included in the next patch to handle all special conditions. Verifier enforces that all iterator structs are named `bpf_iter_<name>` and that whenever iterator is passed to a kfunc it's passed as a valid PTR -> STRUCT chain (with potentially const modifiers in between). We'll need this check for upcoming changes, so instead of duplicating the logic, extract it into a helper function. There are potentially useful cases where a specific iterator type might
need to be passed into some kfunc. So, in addition to existing
bpf_iter_<type>_{new,next,destroy}() kfuncs, allow to pass iterator
pointer to any kfunc.
We employ "__iter" naming suffix for arguments that are meant to accept
iterators. We also enforce that they accept PTR -> STRUCT btf_iter_<type>
type chain and point to a valid initialized on-the-stack iterator state.

[ Upstream commit bd74e23 ] Andrii spotted that process_dynptr_func's rejection of incorrect argument register type will print an error string where argument numbers are not zero-indexed, unlike elsewhere in the verifier. Fix this by subtracting 1 from regno. The same scenario exists for iterator messages. Fix selftest error strings that match on the exact argument number while we're at it to ensure clean bisection. deepin inclusion category: kabi When DEEPIN_KABI_RESERVE=y, struct bpf_prog_aux, struct bpf_verifier_state and struct bpf_subprog_info are kabi whitelisted. The sched_ext backport series on this branch added upstream fields in the middle of these structs, which changes the struct layout and the genksyms checksum: - bpf_prog_aux: struct bpf_arena *arena, bool might_sleep - bpf_verifier_state: u32 may_goto_depth, u32 active_preempt_lock - bpf_subprog_info: u16 stack_extra, bool might_sleep: 1 The fields come from the bpf_arena, may_goto, preempt kfunc and sleepable global subprog summarization backports. They are verifier internal, no 3rd party driver uses them, and they are only accessed by name (no offset based access exists), so each struct's free DEEPIN_KABI_RESERVE() slots can be consumed with DEEPIN_KABI_USE() instead. This keeps the offsets of all previously existing members, the total size and the kABI checksum unchanged. Verified: kernel/sched/build_policy.o (includes ext.c) and kernel/bpf/verifier.o build cleanly both with and without CONFIG_DEEPIN_KABI_RESERVE=y. Signed-off-by: LFRon <ronforever@outlook.com>
Enable CONFIG_SCHED_CLASS_EXT=y for the deepin desktop kernel so that the sched_ext extensible scheduler class backported on this branch is built into the product kernel. All Kconfig dependencies are already satisfied: CONFIG_BPF_JIT=y CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_BTF=y CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL=y (Kconfig default y) CONFIG_CGROUP_SCHED=y (Kconfig default y) CONFIG_EXT_GROUP_SCHED is a hidden option (default y) and gets enabled automatically along with SCHED_CLASS_EXT. This is a local configuration commit, not an upstream cherry-pick; the sched_ext implementation itself comes from the upstream 6.12 commits on this branch (see backport-manifest.md). Verified by generating a fresh config from this defconfig: make O=<scratch> deepin_x86_desktop_defconfig grep CONFIG_SCHED_CLASS_EXT .config => CONFIG_SCHED_CLASS_EXT=y grep CONFIG_EXT_GROUP_SCHED .config => CONFIG_EXT_GROUP_SCHED=y Signed-off-by: LFRon <ronforever@outlook.com>

首先,内核必须启用CONFIG_SCHED_CLASS_EXT配置,集成scx核心支持。
