Upgrade the root and example dependency graphs, add lockfiles for previously unlocked examples, and pin CI to Node 22.23.4 and 24.22.1 from the October security release. The release addresses the Node.js response to the eMudhra intermediate CA incident and a Brotli decoder RCE. Node.js security release
Move the Remix example from unsupported React Router v6 to v7.18.4 to address the applicable security advisories.
Keep the React fixture on patched webpack-dev-server v5 by adapting CRA 5.0.1's deprecated middleware and HTTPS settings.
Apply a narrow local fix to Expo's transitive node-forge 1.4.0 RSA DigestInfo verification. The registry has no fixed release yet; the patch canonicalizes DER encoding and adds malformed-signature regression tests. Advisory · upstream fix proposal
Investigate PHP2Shell; this repository has no PHP files, Composer manifests, or PHP runtime.
Validation
pnpm test:release: 512 test files, 1,308 tests; 100% statements, branches, functions, and lines; package-contract checks and typecheck passed.
GitHub Actions run #342 passed all 30 jobs across Linux, macOS, and Windows.
Astro, Next, React Router, and Gatsby production builds passed. Expo Android and iOS exports and all 7 Expo tests passed.
npm audits found no advisories in the root or 10 of 11 example graphs. Expo's audit still reports the published node-forge 1.4.0 version; this graph uses the local patch above and its security regressions pass.

Walkthrough
The pull request pins Node.js versions in CI, updates dependencies and workspace overrides, changes node-forge DigestInfo validation with regression tests, and migrates the Remix example and test harness to React Router.
Changes: Toolchain and dependency updates
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Pin Node.js versions .github/workflows/*
CI and deployment workflows replace major-version selectors with Node.js 22.23.4 or 24.22.1.
Update toolchain and example dependencies package.json, benchmarks/*/package.json, benchmarks/package.json, packages/docs/package.json, examples/{astro,electron,next,react-native,vue}/package.json
Root, benchmark, documentation, and selected example manifests update dependency ranges.
Workspace files add dependency overrides. The Gatsby workspace also hoists all packages.
Expo node-forge validation
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Patch and register DigestInfo validation examples/expo/patches/node-forge@1.4.0.patch, examples/expo/pnpm-workspace.yaml, examples/expo/package.json
The patch checks DigestInfo against canonical encodings with or without NULL parameters. The Expo workspace registers the patch and adds node-forge as a development dependency.
Wire and test security regressions examples/expo/package.json, examples/expo/test/node-forge-security.test.mjs
The test script runs all test files and adds a separate security command. Tests cover four malformed encodings and a canonical parameter-less encoding.
React Router example migration
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Migrate example package and configuration examples/remix/package.json, examples/remix/pnpm-workspace.yaml, examples/remix/app/*, examples/remix/react-router.config.ts, examples/remix/vite.config.ts
The example replaces Remix packages and Vite configuration with React Router. It adds route and router configuration and updates dependency overrides.
Update framework test commands tests/scripts/start-framework.mjs, tests/README.md
The test runner invokes React Router development, build, and serve commands. The fixture command table uses React Router labels.
Two example workspaces have dependency configuration problems to fix before merging. The Gatsby example can break when a download lacks a file extension. The React and Solid examples no longer exercise this repository's packages. The Remix example also still displays Remix branding after moving to React Router.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title "security: remediate vulnerable dependencies" matches the main change. The PR upgrades root and example dependency graphs to fix vulnerabilities, pins CI Node versions from the October security release, and adds a local patch for node-forge. The title is short and specific, uses a conventional prefix, and a teammate scanning history would understand the primary change. It does not list every detail, which is expected.

with gatsby-core-utils@4.16.0 and its fileType.fromFile API; avoid resolving to
v21 unless gatsby-core-utils is also updated to use the v21 export.
Review comments at @examples/react/pnpm-workspace.yaml:
- Around line 1-2: Restore local package links for @cssxio/cssx and
@cssxio/unplugin in the pnpm workspace configuration for both examples, or point
their manifests to the repository-local packages. Regenerate the lockfiles so
both examples resolve to the local package sources rather than the published

<excerpt>citeturn2search2 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: last week; If you have a Node.js `stream.Readable`, convert it with `Readable.toWeb()`. ... When using `fileTypeFromTokenizer()`, configure `maxBufferSize` on the input reader itself; this option does not override that reader’s limits.
#### buffer
Type: `Uint8Array | ArrayBuffer`
A buffer representing file data. It works best if the buffer contains the entire file. It may work with a smaller portion as well.
### fileTypeFromFile(filePath, options)
Detect the file type of a file path.
Only available in environments where `node:fs` is available, such as Node.js. To read from a `File`, see `fileTypeFromBlob()`.
The file type is detected by checking the magic number of the file.
Returns a `Promise` for an object with the detected file type:
* `ext` - One of the supported file types
* `mime` - The MIME type
Or `undefined` when there is no match.
#### filePath
Type: `string`
The file path to parse.
### fileTypeFromStream(stream, options)
Detect the file type of a web `ReadableStream`.
The file type is detected by checking the magic number of the buffer.
Returns a `Promise` for an object with the detected file type:
Must be a positive safe integer or `Infinity`.
File content can determine how much data a detector requests, for example through a field specifying the length of a metadata entry. This opt-in limit bounds the memory allocations needed to fulfill those reads, including reads made by custom detectors. Setting a finite cap can help prevent excessive read-buffer allocations driven by untrusted file content (CWE-789: Memory Allocation with Excessive Size Value). Built-in reads already have format-specific bounds; choose a finite cap to suit your application. An oversized request rejects detection with `strtok3.BufferSizeError`, which exposes `requestedSize` and `maxBufferSize`. During gzip content probing, this error is suppressed and detection falls back to `gz`; the cap still prevents the oversized allocation.
const fileType = await fileTypeFromFile('sample.bin', {maxBufferSize: 64 * 1024 * 1024});
This is not a total memory limit. It does not cover buffers allocated directly by detectors or `fileTypeStream()` sampling. When using `fileTypeFromTokenizer()`, configure `maxBufferSize` on the input reader itself; this option does not override that reader’s limits. The built-in format-specific limits, including ZIP text-entry limits, apply independently of this option.
For `FileTypeParser.toDetectionStream()`, configure detection options such as `maxBufferSize` through the parser constructor. The method only accepts stream options such as `sampleSize`.

# `gatsby-core-utils`
Utilities used in multiple Gatsby packages.
## Usage
npm install gatsby-core-utils
### createContentDigest
Encrypts an input using md5 hash of hexadecimal digest.
const { createContentDigest } = require("gatsby-core-utils")
const options = {
key: "value",
foo: "bar",
}
const digest = createContentDigest(options)
// ...
### cpuCoreCount
Calculate the number of CPU cores on the current machine
This function can be controlled by an env variable `GATSBY_CPU_COUNT` setting the first argument to true.
value | description
--- | ---
| Counts amount of real cores by running a shell command
`logical_cores` | `require("os").cpus()` to count all virtual cores
await mutex.acquire()
await fs.writeFile("pathToFile", "my custom content")
await mutex.release()
### Hashing
Parts of `hash-wasm` are re-exported from `gatsby-core-utils` or used in custom functions. When working on hashing where you'd normally use `crypto` from Node.js, you can use these functions instead. They especially show their advantage on large inputs so don't feel obliged to always use them. Refer to `hash-wasm`'s documentation for more details on usage for the re-exported functions.
const { md5File, md5, createMD5, sha256, sha1 } = require("gatsby-core-utils")
// For md5, createMD5, sha256, sha1 refer to hash-wasm
await md5(`some-string`)
// md5File gives you the MD5 hex hash for a given filepath
await md5File(`package.json`)

<title>GitHub - jankdc/bote: A fast, modern and low-memory approach to processing a big JSON · GitHub</title>
<location>https://github.com/jankdc/bote</location>
<excerpt>citeturn1search1 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: 2 months ago; * Supports multiple sources of data (e.g. file, network, stream) or write a custom one. (see sources.js for the built-in ones) ... * `fromBuffer(bytes, options?) ... import { open, fromFile } from '@botejs/core';
## Features
* Modern `AsyncIterator` API with helpers that emulate the tc39 ones
* Validate with Standard Schema, avoiding those pesky `unknown`s
* Supports multiple sources of data (e.g. file, network, stream) or write a custom one. (see sources.js for the built-in ones)
* For forward-only sources, there's support for replaying/buffering, allowing navigation to previous values
## Supported
* Node.js >= 22.18.0
* ESM-only
* Platforms
* macOS (Apple Silicon `aarch64` and Intel `x86_64`)
* Linux x64 (`x86_64`, glibc)
* Windows x64 (`x86_64`, MSVC)
* More if requested :)
## API
* `open(source, options?): Cursor`
* `fromFile(path, options?)`
* `fromBuffer(bytes, options?)`
* `fromHttpRange(url, options?)`
* `fromHttpRequest(url, options?)`
* `fromReadable(produce, options?)`
* `cursor.get(...path, schema?)`
* 【11†`cursor.has(...path, schema?)### fromFile(path, options?)
const source = fromFile(path: string, options?: { chunkBytes?: number }): SeekableSource;
A seekable source over a local file. Opens a handle on `open()` and reads byte ranges on demand, so large files are never fully read, only the chunks a query touches. `chunkBytes` (a non-zero multiple of 64) overrides the read granularity.
await using cursor = await open(fromFile('./users.json', { chunkBytes: 128 * 1024 }));
### fromBuffer(bytes, options?)
const source = fromBuffer(bytes: Uint8Array | ArrayBuffer, options?: { chunkBytes?: number }): SeekableSource;
A seekable source over JSON already resident in memory - data you fetched or built yourself rather than a file on disk.
await using cursor = await open(fromBuffer(new TextEncoder().encode('{"ok":true}')));
console.log(await cursor.get('ok')); // -> true
### fromHttpRange(url, options?)
const source = fromHttpRange(url: string, options?: { chunkBytes?: number; init?: RequestInit }): SeekableSource;

<excerpt>citeturn1search3 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: 3 weeks ago; View plugin on GitHub ... The various “transformer” plugins can transform `File` nodes into various other types of data e.g. `gatsby-transformer-json` transforms JSON files into JSON data nodes and `gatsby-transformer-remark` transforms markdown files into `MarkdownRemark` nodes from which you can query an HTML representation of the markdown. ... // `wordpress__wp_media` is the media file type name for WordPress ... The `createFileNodeFromBuffer` helper accepts a `Buffer`, caches its contents to disk, and creates a file node that points to it.
url: node.source_url,
parentNodeId: node.id,
getCache,
createNode,
createNodeId,
auth: _auth,
})
} catch (e) {
// Ignore
}
}
// Adds a field `localFile` to the node
// ___NODE appendix tells Gatsby that this field will link to another node
if (fileNode) {
node.localFile___NODE = fileNode.id
}
})
}`
The file node can then be queried using GraphQL. See an example of this in the gatsby-source-wordpress README where downloaded images are queried using gatsby-transformer-sharp to use in the component gatsby-image.
#### Retrieving the remote file name and extension
The helper tries first to retrieve the file name and extension by parsing the url and the path provided (e.g. if the url is `https://example.com/image.jpg`, the extension will be inferred as `.jpg` and the name as `image`). If the url does not contain an extension, we use the `file-type` package to infer the file type. Finally, the name and the extension can be explicitly passed, like so:
`createRemoteFileNode({
// The source url of the remote file
url: `https://example.com/a-file-without-an-extension`,
parentNodeId: node.id,
getCache,
createNode,
createNodeId,
// if necessary!
ext: ".jpg",
name: "image",
})`
### createFileNodeFromBuffer
When working with data that isn’t already stored in a file, such as when querying binary/blob fields from a database, it’s helpful to cache that data to the filesystem in order to use it with other transformers that accept files as input.
The `createFileNodeFromBuffer` helper accepts a `Buffer`, caches its contents to disk, and creates a file node that points to it.

Keep the file-type override compatible with gatsby-core-utils.
When Gatsby downloads a response without an extension, gatsby-core-utils@4.16.0 calls fileType.fromFile. The override supplies file-type@21.3.4, whose API uses fileTypeFromFile. This branch can fail instead of detecting the extension.
Restrict the override to a compatible major version, or update gatsby-core-utils to use the v21 export and import.

Update the file-type override so it resolves to a version compatible with
gatsby-core-utils@4.16.0 and its fileType.fromFile API; avoid resolving to v21
unless gatsby-core-utils is also updated to use the v21 export.

Restore the local links for @cssxio/cssx and @cssxio/unplugin in both examples.
Without these overrides, both examples install the published 0.8.0 packages from the registry. They no longer use the repository's package source. Restore the local links in examples/react/pnpm-workspace.yaml and examples/solid/pnpm-workspace.yaml, or declare local paths in the example manifests, then regenerate the lockfiles.

Restore local package links for @cssxio/cssx and @cssxio/unplugin in the pnpm
workspace configuration for both examples, or point their manifests to the
repository-local packages. Regenerate the lockfiles so both examples resolve to
the local package sources rather than the published 0.8.0 packages.

Update the visible framework name and visual baselines.
The example now runs React Router 7.18.4, but its title, heading, eyebrow, and description still identify it as Remix. The visual suite captures the full page, so regenerate the Remix-named baselines after updating the copy. Keep the remix fixture identifier used by the test harness.
