Summary

  • migrate the IPMIUtil sensor and SEL monitors, parsers, and existing unit tests/resources from the internal extension repository
  • migrate the Windows ETW monitor as WindowsETWMonitor with its existing unit tests
  • document self-contained custom profile examples for both monitor families without adding bundled public profiles
  • advance the public package version to 3.5.8

Validation

  • migrated monitor unit tests: 181 passed, 2 skipped (pre-existing elevation-dependent ETW tests)
  • Docusaurus production build passed using the approved Microsoft npm feed
  • win-x64 and win-arm64 public publishes passed for the ETW migration
  • live Windows x64 ETW A/B validation against the detached internal baseline passed on the same VM:
    • kernel scenario: both builds exited 0 and emitted the same 28-field schema
    • combined scenario: both builds emitted 28 kernel and 6 .NET runtime events
  • git diff --check passed

Migration notes

  • no public ETW, IPMIUtil, or Azure Host profiles are added; component usage and dependency examples are documented instead
  • no ETW workload package or generator exists; the TraceEvent dependency was already present in the public repository
  • the IPMIUtil Windows package is host.monitors.1.0.1.zip; package transfer proof is tracked with the coordinated internal migration work
  • runtime behavior was preserved; inherited monitor improvements should be handled separately
  • coordinated internal cleanup must consume VirtualClient.* 3.5.8-beta and merge only after that public package is available

Move both monitor implementations, tests, profiles, and documentation into the public repository. Rename ETWMonitor to WindowsETWMonitor and advance the package version for the coordinated internal cleanup.

Keep the migration scoped to tests that existed in the internal implementation.

Follow public workload precedent by verifying profile loading, parameter inlining, and migrated component type wiring for ETW and IPMIUtil.

Normalize the captured Windows path separator before extracting the filename in the migrated timestamp test.

Preserve the internal monitor-only, workload-composed, and remote telemetry command scenarios using current public logger semantics and profile documentation conventions.
