Motivation & Context

11 PR references in python/CHANGELOG.md point to pull requests that no longer exist on GitHub — each of pull/{1876, 2950, 3484, 4278, 4301, 4316, 6028, 7557, 8090, 8152, 8181} returns HTTP 404 (the PRs appear to have been deleted from the repository). Readers following the changelog hit dead links.

The squash-merge commits are still in the repository's history, so each dead link can be replaced with a permalink to the corresponding commit without losing any information.

Description & Review Guide

Related Issue

N/A - trivial change (docs-only link repair; broken links verified via HTTP 404 + REST API).

AI Assistance

  • No material AI assistance was used.
  • This is an AI-assisted contribution. I reviewed, understood, and verified all submitted content and accept responsibility for it.

AI assistance details: An automated link-integrity scanner enumerated every PR link in python/CHANGELOG.md, diffed it against the set of existing PRs, and located the squash-merge commit for each deleted PR via commit search. I reviewed every replacement and verified each target commit URL and message.

Contribution Checklist

  • The code builds clean without any errors or warnings (docs-only change; no build surface touched)
  • All unit tests pass, and I have added new tests where possible (docs-only change; no test surface touched)
  • The PR follows the Contribution Guidelines
  • This PR links to an agreed issue with no competing open PR, or the Related Issue section documents a trivial-change or repository-automation exception.
  • This is not a breaking change. If it is a breaking change, add the breaking change label (or add "[BREAKING]" to the title prefix, before or after any language prefix) — a workflow keeps the label and title prefix in sync automatically.

🟡 Changes recommended

Eight references identify existing issues and should retain issue destinations; the standalone changelog edits also require release-workflow coordination or a maintainer exception.

Confirmed and fixed in 9719fb1. All eight references (8152, 8181, 6028, 4316, 4278, 4301, 3484, 1876) point at deleted PR URLs whose numbers live on as closed issues with matching titles, so they now link to issues/ with the original anchor text preserved. The three references to genuinely deleted artifacts (8090, 7557, 2950) keep their commit links, since both the pull request and the same-numbered issue are gone in those cases.

Fair point. To clarify scope: this PR only repairs dead reference URLs in existing entries (no entry text is added, removed, or reworded), so the changelog content itself is untouched. That said, it does technically fall under the direct-update restriction in python/AGENTS.md. I do not have a maintainer exception to offer, so I will defer to the maintainers here: if the preference is to fold these link repairs into the central release-preparation workflow instead, I am happy to close this PR and hand over the reference list.

leom1919 Thanks for tracing these dead references and verifying the replacement mapping. Direct python/CHANGELOG.md updates are reserved for the central release-preparation workflow, and this PR does not have a maintainer exception. Please hand the verified reference list to the release workflow or maintainers so it can be applied there. I’m closing this PR to keep changelog ownership consistent.
