SplitPro is free with no daily limit on expenses. Receipt photos, categories, recurring expenses and a default split per group are included, with no paid tier. It is open source under the MIT license and works in any browser.

Settle Up has a free version and a paid Premium upgrade, which is where its receipt photos, categories, recurring transactions, Excel export and charts are. It runs on Android, iPhone and the web.

## Which should you pick?

**Pick SplitPro if** you want receipts, categories and recurring costs like rent without paying for an upgrade, or you prefer open source software.

**Pick Settle Up if** you need offline entry, several payers on one expense, currency conversion or charts.

## Common questions

### Is Settle Up free?

It has a free version. Premium adds receipt photos, categories, recurring transactions, Excel export and charts, as a subscription or a one-time purchase for one group.

### Does SplitPro work offline?

No. SplitPro needs a connection to add expenses.

### Which handles multiple currencies better?

Settle Up converts with real-time exchange rates. SplitPro supports more than 100 currencies and keeps each expense and balance in the currency it was paid in, without converting.

### Can friends see balances without installing an app?

Yes, in both. Settle Up can share a group as a link. SplitPro runs in the browser, and quick split shares a link that needs no account.

SplitPro has no daily limit on expenses, and its core features are free: groups, recurring expenses, receipt photos and a default split per group. It is open source under the MIT license, so you can read the code or run your own copy, and it works in any browser.

Splitwise's free plan lets you add up to 4 expenses a day. Both apps split equally, by percentage, by shares or by exact amounts. Splitwise has native phone apps and a few features SplitPro lacks, listed below.

## Common questions

### Is SplitPro a free alternative to Splitwise?

Yes. Expenses, groups, recurring expenses, receipts and settling up are free, with no daily limit. Splitwise's free plan allows 4 expenses a day; Pro removes the limit.

### Can I move my Splitwise data to SplitPro?

Yes, your friends and groups with their current balances, from a Splitwise JSON backup. Past individual expenses are not imported, so keep a Splitwise export if you want that history. Splitwise Pro users can download the backup on the web; free users can ask Splitwise support for one.

### Does SplitPro have a mobile app?

It runs in your browser. On your phone you can add it to your home screen, where it opens like an app and can send notifications.

### Does SplitPro simplify debts like Splitwise?

Not in groups yet; you settle up with each member. Quick split, which needs no account, does suggest the fewest payments.

SplitPro gives you one account that ties together all your groups and one-to-one balances with friends. It has more ways to split, recurring expenses, and it works in any browser. It is open source under the MIT license, so you can read the code or host it yourself.

Both apps are free with no daily limit on expenses. Tricount keeps one shared list per trip or household, in iPhone and Android apps.

- Its Splitwise importer brings over group expenses, not just balances.

## Which should you pick?

**Pick SplitPro if** you split with the same people over time, like rent with roommates, and want every group and friend in one place, or you prefer open source software.

**Pick Tricount if** you want a phone app with offline entry for a trip and people to join without an account.

## Common questions

### Is Tricount free?

Yes. Tricount says it is free with no limits. It is owned by the bank bunq. SplitPro is free too, with no daily limit.

### Can I use SplitPro without an account, like Tricount?

Yes, with quick split. Add names and expenses and share one link; everyone can see and edit the split without signing up. For costs you share over time, a free account keeps a running tab across groups and friends.

### Which is better for a trip abroad?

Tricount works offline and can show the trip total in one currency. SplitPro keeps each expense and balance in the currency you paid in, and needs a connection to add expenses.

### Can I move from Tricount to SplitPro?

There is no Tricount importer. Settle up in Tricount, then create the group in SplitPro and add new expenses there.
