Adds Kiro (Kiro CLI V3) as a provider, as an Early Access integration that is off by default. Kiro isn't in the ACP Registry, and generic Registry agents stay spec-only, so Kiro gets its own kiro driver in packages/provider-kiro. It's a small flavor over the shared ACP adapter, the way Grok and Antigravity are.

Status: up to date with main (Oct 28, 0975abd5a1), with native steering, fork from a message and /compact. All checks pass on ea359d5c9a, and no review threads are open. Not merged.

What works

  • Setup. In Settings → Providers → Add provider, Kiro is under Show more, next to fx and the ACP Registry. T3 uses the signed-in kiro-cli (kiro-cli login) or a KIRO_API_KEY, and needs Kiro CLI 2.27.0 or newer. The binary path is a setting. Web, desktop and mobile all show Kiro's settings card and icon.
  • Models. The picker lists the models your Kiro account can use. The default row is named after your account's default model, and picking it follows whatever Kiro's default is. Switching models keeps the same Kiro session. Custom models from the settings are sent to Kiro as is. A model the account can't use fails the turn with Kiro's own message and never runs on another model.
  • Reasoning effort. Each model with effort control gets a Reasoning setting with only the levels Kiro offers for it.
  • Agents. An Agent setting lists Kiro's bundled agents (Default, Spec, Plan, Bug Fix, …) and your ~/.kiro/agents. Switching agents keeps the thread's model.
  • Permission modes. Supervised and Full access.
    • Supervised asks before tool calls, under the same Supervised policy as other providers, and again for Kiro's end-of-turn "Review changes".
    • Full access answers by policy and turns on Kiro's autopilot.
    • Approval cards show Kiro's own choices. Always allow appears only when Kiro offers no one-time choice, because it saves a workspace consent rule in Kiro.
  • Sub-agents each get their own child thread.
  • Stop cancels the turn. A command or sub-agent that Kiro fails in response shows as interrupted.
  • Steering. A message sent while Kiro works joins the running turn through Kiro's native steering. Kiro reads it at its next step, after any running tool call. A message with images stops the turn and starts a new one instead, because Kiro's steering takes text only.
  • Fork from a message. Forking a thread from a message forks Kiro's own session at that message, so the fork keeps Kiro's context up to there and nothing after it.
  • /compact compacts with Kiro's own compaction, from the composer.
  • Resume. A thread picks its Kiro session back up (session/load) after the idle release or a server restart.
  • Hooks. Kiro runs the user's and the workspace's hooks itself, as it does in a terminal.
  • Also: T3's MCP tools, and images in prompts.
  • Docs: docs/user/providers-kiro.md.

How it works

  • Launch: kiro-cli acp --agent-engine=v3 --auth-method=cli. V3 runs only when asked for, and Kiro's CLI keeps the login, so T3 never holds Kiro tokens.
  • Status check: kiro-cli --version and kiro-cli whoami --format json give the version and sign-in. Once signed in, kiro-cli chat --list-models --format json lists the models. It never runs while signed out, because there it opens a browser login. Agents are read with initialize plus _kiro/config/template, which opens no session.
  • Session settings go through session/set_config_option, in this order:
    1. The agent (mode), because an agent can move the session to its own model.
    2. The model.
    3. The effort level (effortLevel), once Kiro advertises it for that model, waiting at most 2 s.
  • Stop holds session/cancel until Kiro shows the prompt has started, at most 2 s after sending it. Kiro 2.27 drops a cancel that arrives earlier.
  • Steering sends _session/steer with { sessionId, message }, once the prompt has started. Kiro doesn't advertise the method, but it works on 2.27.0, 2.32.0 and 2.33.1. Kiro queues the message and reports steering_injected when the model reads it.
    • T3 waits at most 2 s for that, or for the turn to end. Effects on a thread run one at a time, so a longer wait would hold a Stop behind a running tool.
    • A steer that lands after the model's last step is dropped by Kiro, and the turn ends right after. That fails the steer, and the orchestrator sends the message as a follow-up instead.
    • Kiro's model ends a steered reply with a [STEERING steer-…] note meant for Kiro's own UI, which T3 drops from the streamed text.
  • Fork sends session/fork with _meta.kiro.messageId: the userMessageId Kiro assigns each prompt (user_message_id_assigned), which T3 keeps as the turn's native ref. A fork from the latest turn is a plain head fork.
  • /compact sends _kiro/session/compact instead of a prompt, because Kiro answers a /compact prompt as chat. The turn then settles with T3's usual "Context compacted" item, and T3's instructions go out again on the next prompt.
  • Shared ACP adapter changes. Flavors opt in to each new hook, so other providers keep their behavior:
    • sessionConfigForPolicy: runtime mode → session option.
    • modelOptionArrivesLate, ownedModelOptionIds, and a config-option change stream.
    • cancelAfterPromptStarts.
    • ignoreSessionUpdate, which drops the cloud-config fetch that Identity Center logins run.
    • Sub-agent session routing.
    • steering (native mid-turn steering), forkFromTurn (fork at an earlier turn), and compactSession (compaction by request instead of a /compact prompt).
  • Orchestrator: turn capabilities gain an optional activeSteeringAcceptsAttachments. When a provider sets it to false, a steer with attachments uses interrupt-and-restart. The fixture DSL gains a fork step.
  • Fixes in the shared ACP adapter, which apply to every ACP agent:
    • A permission request's missing tool kind is filled in from its tool call.
    • A tool or sub-agent the agent fails after Stop shows as interrupted.
    • A config-option write's result no longer overwrites a newer update.
  • Tests: replays recorded live on Kiro CLI 2.27.0 to 2.33.1 through the real orchestrator (apps/server/scripts/record-kiro-acp-replay-fixture.ts). They cover simple and multi-turn, queued turns, steering, resume, Stop early and mid-tool, model switch, effort, Supervised and Full access writes, and sub-agents with and without Stop. Native steering, fork from a message and /compact each have their own recording from 2.33.1. A hand-ported replay covers the cloud-config fetch.

Limitations

  • No context usage. The context meter stays empty, and switching a thread back to Kiro can be refused with "Insufficient context allowance". Follow-up: #22636.
  • No plan mode toggle. Kiro's Plan agent is in the Agent setting, but its plan arrives as plain text, not as a proposed-plan card.
  • Agents: a project's .kiro/agents aren't listed, though a session in that project can use them. The Agent setting has no search or favorites.
  • Effort levels come from a built-in table checked against Kiro 2.32, because Kiro names them only inside a running session. A new Kiro model with effort needs a table entry.
  • No text generation. Kiro can't write commit messages, PR content, branch names, thread titles or review guides.
  • No one-click update (Kiro updates itself).
  • Steering with images restarts the turn rather than steering it, since Kiro's steering takes text only.
  • Forking from a turn recorded before this change fails. Only turns that saved Kiro's message id can be forked from mid-thread, though a fork from the latest turn always works.
  • Unused Kiro extensions: steering documents and Specs, MCP OAuth (_kiro/mcp/status), session/list, and _kiro/workflow/*.
  • Stop's 2 s bound rests on Kiro 2.27.1 timings that TinBane measured. Kiro's docs don't promise the turn_start event the hold waits for.
History: original description, updates onto main, review fixes, contributor feedback, and verification

The maintainer wants Kiro on V2. Kiro is not in the ACP registry, and generic registry agents stay spec-only, so this adds a dedicated kiro driver on the shared ACP adapter, the way Antigravity and Grok have one. It lives in its own packages/provider-kiro package, like Grok's. It targets Kiro CLI V3.

What changed

  • Launch: kiro-cli acp --agent-engine=v3 --auth-method=cli. V3 only runs when asked for (the CLI still defaults to the v2 engine), and CLI-owned auth keeps tokens out of T3. V3 rejects the v2 flags (--agent, --model, --trust-*), so none are passed. The binary path is a setting (default kiro-cli on PATH).
  • Flavor (packages/provider-kiro/src/server/adapter.ts, a small flavor over makeAcpAdapterV2):
    • Permissions. Kiro 2.27 asks the client before tool calls whatever its autopilot option says, and T3's runtime policy answers. A policy approval uses only Kiro's allow_once. A request offering no one-time choice goes to the user instead, because Kiro's allow_always saves a workspace-wide rule. With autopilot off, Kiro also asks for a "Review changes" turn_approval before a turn with edits ends. T3 turns autopilot on only for unrestricted Full access, so an explicit approval or sandbox override keeps it off (the same rule as Grok's launch mode). It skips the write when the session already has that value. The shared adapter gains sessionConfigForPolicy next to sessionModeForPolicy for this.
    • Models go through session/set_config_option on model, never session/set_model. Kiro leaves model out of the session/new result and advertises it in a config_option_update a few ms later. So a fresh session writes the requested model straight to model, and a flavor flag (modelOptionArrivesLate) keeps in-session model switching available instead of inferring "no switch" from the setup result. T3 writes the selected model even when Kiro's list doesn't include it, so custom models from the provider settings reach Kiro (through setConfigOption's allowUnlistedValue, which fx's adapter brought to main first). Kiro accepts any value but fails the next prompt with -32000 "The model '…' is not available", and T3 shows Kiro's own message for a failed prompt. A turn never runs on another model. "Kiro default" selects Kiro's own default model (the default_model from --list-models, else auto), so switching back to it after a named model moves Kiro back too. A new session gets no write for it.
    • Approval cards show only the choices Kiro sends (Allow once, Deny, Cancel). Kiro's allow_always saves a workspace consent rule that outlives the thread, so it isn't offered as "this session". A "this session" answer a card never offered (a stale client, a hand-made respond call) is treated as Allow once.
    • Turns settle from the session/prompt response. A session_info_update with kind: "turn_end" doesn't end the turn.
    • Hooks (proposed by @ash663): T3 opts in with clientCapabilities._meta.kiro.hooks: { enabled: true, v2: true }, so Kiro loads the user's hooks and runs them itself, as Claude and Codex threads already do. Without the flag Kiro V3 loads none. enabled alone would hand them to the client as _kiro/hooks/* requests, which T3 doesn't answer. A workspace's .kiro/hooks run too, as they would with kiro-cli there directly.
    • Kiro's cloud-config fetch (reported by @hstern on 2.31.0): with an Identity Center login, Kiro fetches the account's cloud config as a tool call of its own (_meta.kiro.toolId: "fetch_cloud_config") around session start. When it landed inside a turn, the turn showed a "Fetching your cloud config" row, and its completion counted as the prompt starting, which released Stop's cancel early. The shared adapter gains ignoreSessionUpdate, which drops an update before anything reads it; Kiro drops that call and the updates that follow it.
    • Sub-agents (reported by @tinuva): Kiro runs a sub-agent inside the parent's session. invoke_sub_agent is a tool call tagged _meta.kiro.kind: "agent-subtask", and every frame the sub-agent sends (its text, its tool calls, its Subagent Response) carries the same _meta.kiro.agentSubtaskId. The flavor routes those frames to that id as their session and maps the invoke_sub_agent call to a sub-agent with that child session, the shape Devin's registry flavor uses, so the shared adapter projects each sub-agent into its own child thread instead of the parent's timeline.
    • Stop waits until Kiro has started the prompt. On Kiro 2.27.1 a session/cancel sent 0–0.5 s after session/prompt was dropped and the turn ran to completion; one at 1.5 s or later was honored (@TinBane). The shared adapter gains cancelAfterPromptStarts: a flavor predicate for "this update shows the prompt started", plus a bound. Kiro's predicate matches its session_info_update with _meta.kiro.kind: "turn_start", or output only a running prompt produces (assistant text or thoughts, tool calls, plans). The user_message_id_assigned echo and context usage don't count, since the previous prompt's late context_usage can arrive after the next prompt went out. Kiro's docs don't promise turn_start, so the cancel goes out at the latest 2 s after session/prompt, and is skipped if the prompt settles first. The wait for Kiro to acknowledge the cancel keeps its own 10 s. This is the same wait CodexAdapterV2 does for turn/started. The 2.27.0 turn_interrupt and message_steering recordings sent the cancel right after the echo, before turn_start, and Kiro honored it. Those two transcripts now expect the cancel after turn_start by hand, as a synthetic expectation of the gated Stop, and their metadata says so.
    • session/load, MCP injection on new and load, and image prompts (V3 advertises promptCapabilities.image) all use the shared spec path. Unknown _kiro/* notifications are ignored. Unknown agent→client requests (e.g. _kiro/auth/getAccessToken) get a JSON-RPC method-not-found error from the shared ACP client.
  • Reasoning effort (added after an internal Kiro tester said effort was the one gap): each Kiro model with effort gets a Reasoning select with only its own levels and default. kiro-cli chat --list-models names no levels, and neither does _kiro/config/template (checked on 2.32.0), so the picker uses a table copied from the model choices a live session advertises (_meta.kiro.effortLevels, defaultEffortLevel), checked against 2.32.0. Fable 5.1 (from @ash663, on an Identity Center account) and Kimi K3 (from https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/19516 by @hstern) were missing. Kiro default and models without effort get none. The flavor writes the level to Kiro's effortLevel option once Kiro advertises the model T3 just wrote. Kiro only offers effortLevel while a model with effort runs, and silently ignores a write sent before that. On 2.27.0 that advert usually lands in a config_option_update ~40-90 ms after the model write's result, so the flavor waits for it (bounded at 2 s). It skips levels the model doesn't offer, since Kiro would accept them and change nothing. To support this, the ACP runtime exposes its config options as a stream (configOptionChanges), and flavors gain ownedModelOptionIds, so the generic option loop leaves reasoningEffort alone.
  • Shared ACP fix found live: Kiro puts a tool's kind on its tool_call but leaves it off the session/request_permission for that call, so T3's policy saw an unknown kind and refused reads that a read-only sandbox allows. The adapter now fills a missing kind from the tool already seen under the same toolCallId. The Grok, registry and Antigravity tests and replays still pass.
  • Shared ACP fix: Stop shows interrupted, not failed. Kiro answers Stop's session/cancel by marking the running command and any running sub-agent failed ("Tool execution was cancelled by the user.", "Sub-agent execution was cancelled"), so a stopped turn showed a failed command (@TinBane's note) or a failed sub-agent. Once Stop has interrupted the turn, a tool, sub-agent, or sub-agent tool an ACP agent then reports failed shows as interrupted, as on Codex, Claude and Cursor. The replay harness's interrupt step can now wait for an item in a sub-agent's thread.
  • Driver and snapshot: kiro-cli --version and kiro-cli whoami --format json give version and sign-in state. Only the first line of whoami is decoded, because an IAM Identity Center login follows the JSON with a Profile: block (reported by @TinBane). A nonzero version exit reports "failed to run". Signed out shows "Run kiro-cli login". Once signed in, kiro-cli chat --list-models --format json fills the picker with the account's models (20 on the maintainer's plan; auto shows as "Kiro default"). It never runs while signed out, because there it starts a browser login. Supported runtime modes are Supervised and Full access. No text generation, and no one-click update (Kiro updates itself).
  • Agents (asked for by @tinuva): Kiro V3 offers its agents as the choices of its mode session option: the bundled ones (Default, Spec, Quick Spec, Bug Fix, Plan, Autonomous, …) and the user's ~/.kiro/agents. V3 rejects --agent, and Kiro's slash commands don't include /agent, so the thread picks one through an Agent select next to Reasoning. The status check reads the list with initialize plus Kiro's _kiro/config/template, with no session/new, so it starts no MCP server and stores no session (~1.5 s, run alongside --list-models). Every Kiro model, custom ones included, carries the select. The adapter writes the agent before the model: live on 2.27.0, switching to an agent whose config sets model moves the session to that model, and the thread's model must win. A thread on "Kiro default" therefore writes auto after an agent switch, even on a new session. An agent the session no longer lists is skipped, because Kiro accepts the write and stays put. Autopilot survives agent switches, so the permission mode is unaffected.
  • Plan mode: the shared ACP plan-mode path switches Kiro to its plan agent when a thread is in plan mode and restores the previous one afterwards. Live, Kiro's plan agent answers with a plan and calls no tools. But Kiro sends that plan as ordinary assistant text, not an ACP plan update, so it doesn't become T3's proposed-plan card. The plan toggle stays hidden (showInteractionModeToggle: false) until that's mapped; the Plan agent is in the Agent select instead. memoryReflection and contentCollection are untouched.
  • Package and contracts: @t3tools/provider-kiro exports ./settings (KiroSettings: enabled, off by default; binaryPath; customModels), ./client, ./server (the driver, which builds its own adapter) and ./testing. Contracts keep the default model, the display name and the off-by-default list. Registered in BUILT_IN_DRIVERS, the status ordering, settings secrets and the bundled compatibility policy (>=2.27.0).
  • Clients: the package's client definition gives web and mobile the settings card (binary path, optional sensitive KIRO_API_KEY, "Early Access" badge) and the Kiro mark as package icon data, so neither client has a Kiro branch. The ghost is cut out of the tile, so the composer's muted icon still shows it. Web also gets settings-search terms.
  • Docs: docs/user/providers-kiro.md (setup, models, agents, hooks, permission modes), plus a Kiro row in the install table, the docs index, permission modes and AGENTS.md's provider list.

Recorded live (Kiro CLI 2.32.0, claude-haiku-4.5)

apps/server/scripts/record-kiro-acp-replay-fixture.ts runs a fixture through the real orchestrator and the real Kiro adapter against the signed-in kiro-cli, teeing only the protocol logger. It scrubs session ids, other UUIDs, the workspace, HOME (including the URL-encoded forms in Kiro's snapshot URIs), Kiro's log directory, user-scoped commands, and the _kiro/* broadcasts T3 ignores. Every transcript was grepped for user, email, account and path leaks before committing. Each one replays through KiroReplayFixtures.integration.test.ts:

  • simple, multi_turn, queued_turn, turn_interrupt (Stop mid-turn: the gated session/cancel goes out after Kiro's turn_start → stopReason: "cancelled", and Kiro sends a _kiro/hooks/cancel notification T3 ignores), message_steering (Kiro has no native mid-turn steering over ACP, so T3 steers by cancel and re-prompt), tool_call_read_only_on_request (Supervised approval of a write).
  • provider_thread_resume: after the idle release a fresh process session/loads the first session and remembers it. ACP transcripts can now span processes: a mid-transcript runtime_exit marks the respawn, and the replay agent continues from its status file.
  • kiro_supervised_write / kiro_full_access_write (new): Supervised sends the write and Kiro's review to the user; Full access answers the write by policy, with no user prompt and no review. kiro_tool_call_read_only_on_request (new) shows an on-request override keeping Kiro Supervised.
  • kiro_model_switch (new): a turn on claude-haiku-4.5, then claude-sonnet-4.5 in the same session. Fixtures gained a set_model step for this.
  • kiro_effort (new): one turn on claude-opus-5.5 at High. In the 2.32.0 recording, Kiro answers the model write without model or effortLevel and advertises effortLevel at Medium right after, T3 then writes High, and Kiro reports High before the prompt goes out.
  • subagent (Kiro variant, recorded on 2.33.1): "Spawn 2 subagents…". Kiro ran both in parallel with their frames interleaved on the parent session. Each lands in its own child thread with its prompt, tool calls and text, and the parent shows only the two sub-agent rows and its reply.
  • turn_interrupt_mid_tool (Kiro variant, recorded on 2.33.1): Stop while node -e … setTimeout(30000) runs. Kiro fails the command after the cancel; T3 shows it interrupted.
  • kiro_subagent_interrupt (new, recorded on 2.33.1): Stop while a sub-agent's sleep 30 runs. Kiro fails the command and then the sub-agent; T3 shows both interrupted.
  • kiro_cloud_config (new, hand-ported): the turn_interrupt recording with the fetch_cloud_config call and completion @hstern captured from 2.31.0 added in an order that failed there. This account (a GitHub login) gets no cloud-config fetch, so it can't be recorded here.
  • kiro_unknown_model (recording driven by an adapter test, still from 2.27.0): an unknown id fails the turn with Kiro's message, and an available model then works in the same session.
  • The recorder runs each fixture's assertions before writing, refuses to overwrite a fixture on failure (--force to inspect), and rejects --out with several scenarios.
  • The remaining hand-written adapter tests cover only what an account can't produce on demand: a deployment with no Kiro extensions, and a custom model Kiro doesn't list being sent and failing with Kiro's message.

Not supported or deferred

  • tool_call_read_only isn't recorded. The shared fixture names files under a fixed /tmp/claude-replay-… path, and the rules for this work forbid creating anything under /tmp. The kind fix above came from that attempt.
  • Plan mode → proposed-plan card (see plan mode above).
  • Project agents: _kiro/config/template doesn't read a workspace, so a project's .kiro/agents aren't in the select yet. A session in that workspace does list them. Offering them needs a per-workspace agent list, like workspaceSnapshots does for skills.
  • Agent search and favorites (@tinuva's 100-agent case): the select scrolls, but has no search or favorites like the model picker.
  • Live effort levels (@ash663's longer-term ask): the picker still uses the table. Kiro names the levels only in a running session's model option; --list-models and _kiro/config/template don't (checked on 2.32.0), and the status check must not open a session. Reading them live needs the adapter to feed what a session advertises back into the provider snapshot.
  • Kiro extensions: Steering, Specs, _kiro/session/context, _kiro/session/compact, _kiro/mcp/status with MCP OAuth, persistent consent scopes on allow_always, _session/steer, session/fork, session/list, _kiro/workflow/*.

Rebase onto main (Oct 6)

Squashed the 27 review-fix commits into one and ported it to main: provider files follow the one-module-per-service layout (https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/16295), effect/process (https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/16138), layer* names and the renamed replay harness exports (https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/16282). The recorder and two transcripts now treat the <pull_request_linking> body as T3-owned <any> text, since main's longer PR-watch guidance broke kiro_model_switch. The two fixes from @TinBane's report (Stop and Identity Center, above) are separate commits, and so is each review fix on top (Stop gating on Kiro's start evidence with a 2 s bound, gated early-Stop tests, "Kiro default" switching back, stale "this session" approvals).

Update onto main (Oct 19)

  • Merged main (1,146 commits). Main had moved each provider into its own package (https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/17357 and siblings), so Kiro moved too: packages/provider-kiro with ./settings, ./client, ./server, ./testing, following Grok. KiroSettings left contracts, and the web and mobile Kiro icon branches are gone in favor of the package icon. The shared ACP adapter's conflicts kept Kiro's flavor hooks next to main's getModelContextWindow.
  • Feedback from the Kiro community: Fable 5.1 and Kimi K3 effort (@ash663, https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/19516 by @hstern), Kiro hooks (@ash663), and the cloud-config fetch (@hstern), each a commit crediting them.
  • Found re-recording on 2.32.0: the shared ACP runtime let a session/set_config_option result overwrite a newer config_option_update. Kiro 2.32 answers a model write without model, then advertises it right after, so when both arrived together the thread's reasoning effort was dropped after the 2 s wait. A result now stays out when an update arrived while its write was in flight.

Update onto main (Oct 21)

  • Merged main (798 commits). Main deleted builtInProviderAdapterDrivers.ts (https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/22557), because each driver builds its own adapter, so Kiro no longer exports a standalone adapter driver. Main also split the replay fixtures into one file per provider (https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/22717), so Kiro has KiroReplayFixtures.integration.test.ts. The shared replay runner still checks a set_model step's final model.
  • Shared ACP changes re-applied on main's restructured AcpSessionRuntime.ts and adapter: the config-option stream, allowUnlistedValue and the in-flight write guard, the cancel hold, ignoreSessionUpdate, and the tool kind on permission requests (now beside main's followsAgentWorkState path). The replay agent keeps main's atomic status write plus Kiro's resume across a mid-transcript process exit.
  • Lint: Kiro's Effect helpers use Effect.fn, for main's new prefer-effect-fn rule (https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/22000).
  • Lockfile: main's, plus the Kiro package.

Update onto main (Oct 22)

  • Update onto main (Oct 22). Main pinned its patched packages (#23798), which broke the merged lockfile (ERR_PNPM_LOCKFILE_MISSING_DEPENDENCY on every CI job), so the lockfile is main's again plus the Kiro package, and vp install --frozen-lockfile passes. The package's typecheck script uses tsc, as main's other packages do since #23023. After the merge: provider-kiro 4, provider-acp 89, provider-grok 93, provider-acp-registry 55, contracts 141, server ACP family 199, every replay file 198, knip passes, typecheck clean.

Update onto main (Oct 27)

  • Merged main (499 commits, including fx #18277, ACP session notices #25704 and the Add provider fold #25753). The 15 conflicts were Kiro and fx each adding themselves to the same provider lists, so both are kept. setConfigOption's allowUnlistedValue came from fx first, so Kiro now uses main's. In the shared adapter, main's shorter comments were kept, along with Kiro's cancel hold and interrupted sub-agent status.
  • Kiro sits under Show more in Add provider (featured: false), next to fx and the ACP Registry. Kiro isn't in the Registry, so it needs no acpRegistryAgentIds.
  • Replays:
    • initialize now advertises session.notices in all 16 Kiro transcripts, including the second process in provider_thread_resume.
    • kiro_model_switch and kiro_unknown_model record the instructions for the model each prompt ran on, and main reworded them in #21363. The replay agent rejected the old wording, so the model-switch turn failed and the test hung.
  • Main's new checks: comments fit the four-line no-low-value-comments rule, and the replay settings decode with Schema.decodeSync for preferTypedSchemaDecoder.
  • Manifest: updatedAt is newer than main's again, so a cached copy of main's manifest can't hide the kiro policy.
  • Review fixes (CodeRabbit, after the merge):
    • Kiro default is always listed (e1a7eb551b). New threads select it, but it was listed only when a model in Kiro's list matched Kiro's default id.
    • A permission that only offers allow_always can be approved (8ce6f4b829). The card offers Always allow, which saves Kiro's consent rule. Before, it showed only Deny and Cancel. Policies still never pick it on their own.
    • The Kiro guide covers Windows 11 (e78f8f3c3a), with Kiro's PowerShell install command.
    • The mid-tool Stop replay now stops a running command (17eff8ac2b). Kiro lists a command as pending before it runs, and the old recording's Stop landed while it was still pending. The interrupt step can now wait for a turn item's status. Kiro's own kiro_turn_interrupt_mid_tool, re-recorded live on kiro-cli 2.33.1, stops once the command is running and asserts that Kiro fails a command it had reported in_progress. The old recording fails the new fixture.
    • After these: every replay file 211, the Kiro and ACP adapters with KiroProvider 96, typecheck clean in provider-kiro and server. The new tests fail with each fix reverted.
  • Contributor feedback (TinBane):
    • Kiro's default is named after the model it runs (9386a44bac), co-authored by TinBane, who suggested it. An organization default such as claude-opus-5.5 showed only as "Kiro default", so that model looked missing. The row keeps the default slug, so sessions still follow Kiro's default. Without a readable model list it is still "Kiro default". With the fix reverted, the two updated KiroProvider tests fail.
    • Not in this PR: /compact for Kiro (TinBane's _kiro/session/compact hook, coming as its own PR against v2/kiro-acp) and Kiro context usage for the meter and handoff budgets (#22636, a follow-up).
  • After it (f2b5609792):
    • Tests: provider-kiro 4, provider-acp 87, provider-fx 5, provider-grok 83, provider-acp-registry 55 and contracts 145. The server ACP family passed 223 and every replay file 211. Add provider's browser tests passed 7, settings search 21, and ModelManifest with KiroProvider 23.
    • Checks: typecheck is clean in 10 packages, including web and mobile, and lint is clean on every changed file. vp install --frozen-lockfile and knip pass.
  • Merged main again (9ca5db692c, 118 commits). Main's #24205 moved the provider registry that web and mobile share into client-runtime. Kiro now registers there once, after Antigravity, and its provider-kiro dependency moved from web and mobile into client-runtime. Kiro sets no modelFamilies, because its models come from several families.
    • After it: typecheck is clean in 10 packages and lint is clean on changed files. Tests: server ACP family 239, every replay file 220, provider-acp 87, provider-grok 83, provider-acp-registry 55, contracts 145, web settings 28, and Add provider's browser tests 7.
  • Native steering, fork and compaction (asked for by a maintainer; compaction found and designed by TinBane):
    • /compact (1c44bfee44): the compactSession hook and _kiro/session/compact. kiro_compaction was recorded live: a marker survives compaction, /compact is never sent as a prompt, and T3's instructions go out again. With the hook removed, the replay never gets its _kiro/session/compact frame.
    • Native steering (7cd21e101d): the steering hook, _session/steer, and the [STEERING …] note filter. Kiro moved from the shared message_steering fixture to kiro_message_steering, where a running sleep keeps the steer inside the turn. That fixture checks one prompt, one _session/steer and no cancel. It fails without the hook, and without the note filter.
    • Fork from a message (495c997c44): the forkFromTurn hook and the fixture DSL's fork step. kiro_fork_from_turn forks from the first of two turns. The fork is native, session/fork carries the first prompt's userMessageId, and the fork recalls only the first turn. Without the hook, the fork never creates its thread.
    • Steer with images (ec4fa120d0): activeSteeringAcceptsAttachments. A new SteeringCompletion test shows an image steer restarting the turn, and it fails without the rule. The guide gains a section on steering, forks and /compact.
    • Probed live first (2.33.1, plus steering on 2.27.0 and 2.32.0):
      • A fork at a prompt's userMessageId keeps that turn and drops later ones.
      • _kiro/session/compact returns { success: true }, and the session still remembers.
      • A steer queued during a tool call or during the reply is injected. One sent while idle is dropped about 3 s later.
    • After these, on ec4fa120d0: typecheck is clean in 10 packages and lint is clean on changed files. Tests: server ACP family 241, every replay file 222, SteeringCompletion and CommandPolicy 32, provider-acp 87, provider-grok 83, provider-acp-registry 55, contracts 145, web settings 28, and Add provider's browser tests 7.
  • Merged main again (0975abd5a1, 26 commits). The manifest's updatedAt is newer than main's again, after #26199 bumped main's, and the docs index keeps main's new triage link next to Kiro's guide. After it, the same checks pass: typecheck in 10 packages, lint, server ACP family 241, every replay file 222, and SteeringCompletion, CommandPolicy and ModelManifest 46.
  • Review fixes after it:
    • The three new Kiro fixture outputs share one Predicate-based field reader in shared.ts (dcbae0eccb, CodeRabbit).
    • The driver test that only checked Kiro's default enabled flag is gone (08e4955e83, Macroscope).
    • The effort-advert and unlisted-agent warnings log bounded values instead of the thread's model, effort and agent strings (ea359d5c9a, Macroscope).

Verification

  • Stop status (Oct 22), kiro-cli 2.33.1, on 3662d361d0: both recordings passed their assertions live, and with the adapter change reverted both replays fail ('failed' for 'interrupted'). provider-kiro 4, provider-acp 89, provider-grok 93, provider-acp-registry 55, contracts 141, server ACP family 201, every replay file 200. Typecheck clean in provider-acp and server; knip passes.
  • Sub-agents (Oct 22), kiro-cli 2.33.1, on 489eab2ad8: the subagent recording replays with its assertions passing, and with the two flavor hooks removed it fails (16 tool nodes in the parent, no sub-agent). provider-kiro 4, provider-acp 89, provider-grok 93, provider-acp-registry 55, contracts 139, server ACP family 199, every replay file 198. Typecheck clean in provider-kiro and server.
  • Final round (Oct 21), kiro-cli 2.33.1 (the latest stable, signed in with GitHub). Run on 0f7bbcc118. Two review follow-ups came after it. 65bb08c590 makes the manifest newer than main's again and guards the recorder's / workspace. 5eb94a393e makes a rejected effort write log Kiro's error code instead of its text. After them: ModelManifest 6 tests, the Kiro adapter and replays 32, server typecheck clean.
    • Live: every recorded scenario ran through the real orchestrator and passed its assertions live: simple, multi_turn, queued_turn, message_steering, provider_thread_resume, kiro_model_switch, kiro_effort, kiro_supervised_write, kiro_full_access_write, and turn_interrupt 3 of 3. The committed 2.32.0 transcripts were left as they are.
    • kiro_tool_call_read_only_on_request passed 7 of 10 live. In the other 3 the model wrote the file with a shell command instead of Kiro's file tool. T3 asked the user for that command, as its policy requires (Kiro's own session log shows the request and the answer). Kiro then sends no "Review changes" request, because that review follows only its file tools, so the fixture's second approval never comes. The replay is deterministic, so CI isn't affected.
    • Suites, inside unshare -U --map-current-user -p -f --mount-proc:
      • At the merge: provider-kiro 4, provider-acp 89, provider-grok 93, provider-acp-registry 55, contracts 139.
      • Server ACP family at the merge: the Kiro, Grok and ACP Registry replay files, the Kiro, Grok, ACP Registry, Antigravity and shared ACP adapters, KiroProvider, ProviderRegistry and settingsSecrets, 198. Every replay file (all providers), 197.
      • After the Effect.fn change: provider-kiro 4, and the Kiro adapter, provider, replays and settingsSecrets 41.
    • Typecheck: no errors in provider-kiro, provider-acp, provider-acp-registry, provider-grok, contracts, server, web and mobile.
    • Lint and knip: vp run knip:check passes. Lint is clean on changed files apart from an unused-helper warning that main also has.
  • Earlier round (Oct 19), kiro-cli 2.32.0. Signed in with GitHub, binary run from a scratch directory next to the installed 2.27.0.
    • Live recordings: every recorded fixture re-recorded through the current adapter, and each passed its assertions live. turn_interrupt passed 5 of 5, each with the cancel after turn_start. A leak grep (user, email, home paths, tokens, ARNs, tailnet addresses) found nothing.
    • Probes: a prompt-free session/new listed every effort-capable model with the table's levels, except Kimi K3, which was missing. This account doesn't get claude-fable-5.1, so its entry follows @ash663's Identity Center session.
    • Hooks: with the hooks flag, Kiro logged loading a workspace .kiro/hooks SessionStart hook, and the hook fired on the first prompt. Without the flag Kiro loaded none.
    • Red checks: without the cloud-config filter, kiro_cloud_config fails with Henry's expected [ 'completed', 'interrupted' ] to deeply equal [ 'interrupted' ], and the new gated Stop test fails with "Stop must still hold its cancel after cloud-config". Without the runtime fix, the 2.32.0 kiro_effort replay hangs in starting.
    • Suites:
      • Inside unshare -U --map-current-user -p -f --mount-proc, the full OrchestratorReplayFixtures integration and contract suites (every provider) passed with the Kiro adapter, Kiro provider and registry tests: 257 passed. The Grok, Antigravity and ACP Registry adapter suites passed too.
      • provider-kiro (4) and provider-acp (110) passed.
      • In AcpAdapterV2.test.ts plus src/provider/acp, 266 passed. The 7 process-tree and detached-process-group failures are the same 7 that origin/main fails in that sandbox.
    • Typecheck and lint: typecheck shows no errors in provider-kiro, provider-acp, contracts, server, web and mobile. Lint is clean on changed files.
    • knip and web build: knip --include files, dependencies and the exports check on the touched workspaces are clean, and the web build passes. Both first failed on effect-acp reaching the client license manifests through the new package; it is now a dev dependency, as in the other ACP packages.
  • After the rebase, inside unshare -U --map-current-user -p -f --mount-proc: the full OrchestratorReplayFixtures.integration.test.ts, 134 passed (every provider). KiroAdapterV2.test.ts, KiroProvider.test.ts and KiroDriver.test.ts: 16 passed, including the early-Stop and Identity Center regressions, each shown failing before its fix. AcpRegistryAdapterV2, GrokAdapterV2 and AntigravityAdapterV2 tests passed. ProviderRegistry.test.ts, ModelManifest.test.ts and providerCompatibility.test.ts passed.
  • After the review fixes, same sandbox: KiroAdapterV2.test.ts, KiroProvider.test.ts and KiroDriver.test.ts 23 passed; the Grok, Antigravity and registry adapter tests 32 passed. OrchestratorReplayFixtures.integration.test.ts -t kiro: 10 passed. ProviderRegistry.test.ts and ModelManifest.test.ts: 72 passed. Each review fix was reverted on its own and its test failed: the early-Stop tests sent the cancel after the user_message_id_assigned echo and after the previous prompt's context_usage; a turn with reply text but no turn_start never cancelled; without the 2 s bound an echo-only turn never cancelled in time; with a shared Stop deadline the acknowledgement wait ended early; the default-model test saw a prompt where it expected model → auto; the stale-approval test saw always-accept. The early-Stop tests hold Kiro's frames at replay gates, release them on an adapter receipt and move a test clock, with no wall-clock delays.
  • The known replay flake is fixed: the ACP replay agent rewrote status.json in place, so the completeness check could read it truncated ("Unexpected end of JSON input", 2 of 15 runs before, 1 of 4 on this head). It now writes a pending file and renames it over the status. The Kiro set (KiroAdapterV2, KiroProvider, KiroDriver, ProviderRegistry, 94 tests) then passed 8 runs in a row.
  • In AcpAdapterV2.test.ts, 109 passed; the 5 detached process-group tests fail inside unshare with main's own AcpAdapterV2.ts too.
  • vp exec tsc --noEmit -p . by exit code for apps/server, apps/web, apps/mobile and packages/contracts: 0 (server re-checked after each change). vp lint on touched files: clean apart from base-branch warnings. Diff grep for sk-or- and crsr_: none.
  • Effort, live against kiro-cli 2.27.0 with a direct ACP probe: a model write sent right after session/new got a result without effortLevel in most runs, and an effortLevel=high write sent then stayed at Medium in 4 of 5 runs. Writing after Kiro's advert worked 6 of 6 times, and a session/load in a new process restored High. That is why the flavor waits for the advert. The new scripted test fails 3 of 3 on the first effort commit and passes with the wait. KiroAdapterV2.test.ts: 16 passed, 5 runs in a row. Kiro replays: 11 passed. Grok, Antigravity, registry and Kiro replays: 27 passed. The Kiro, Grok, Antigravity and shared ACP adapter suites with KiroProvider, AcpRuntimeModel and AcpSessionConfig: 229 of 230 passed. The failure was the early-Stop "never acknowledges" test, which then passed in all 5 reruns above. Server tsc: exit 0.
  • Agents, after merging main (Oct 12), same sandbox. Live against kiro-cli 2.27.0 with a direct ACP probe and a scratch HOME: _kiro/config/template listed the bundled agents plus three user agents, including a nested team/planner.md (listed and selectable as planner). It started no MCP server, while session/new did. A mode write to an agent with "model": "claude-sonnet-4.6" moved the session off claude-opus-4.8. A model write sent right after the agent write stuck in 5 of 5 fresh sessions. An unknown agent left the session on its agent. checkKiroProviderStatus against the live CLI returned ready, 21 models and the 10-agent select. New scripted tests: agent before model across two turns, Kiro default restored after an agent switch on a new session, and a removed agent skipped. With the model written before the agent, the first two fail. KiroProvider.test.ts covers the template decoding and the probe wiring, with a fake kiro-cli acp that fails any session/new. Kiro replays: 11 passed. Server and web tsc: exit 0. knip --workspace apps/server --exports: clean. Main also added generateReviewGuide to text generation, so Kiro's stub gained it.
  • Not run: a real client pass (none was requested). The gated Stop now has live 2.32.0 runs, but the 2 s bound still rests on @TinBane's 2.27.1 timings.
  • @TinBane, could you re-run the turn_interrupt recording on Kiro CLI 2.27.1 against this head to confirm an early Stop now cancels, ideally also with Stop pressed within 0.5 s of sending?

Merge Risk: Low · up to 0975a

Kiro's "Always allow" approval has not been confirmed to work against the real CLI, because the response omits the consent metadata the CLI sends in its request. The Supervised/Full access switch does reapply the autopilot setting. This is a narrow, bounded risk that should be confirmed against a live Kiro CLI, but it need not block merge.

Explanation

The description is thorough and follows the template's main sections. It has a Problem-equivalent summary, a detailed Change section, and a Verification section with specific test results. The Scope and approval section is only partly addressed: it cites Discussion #6786 but does not link a triaged bug issue or explicit maintainer approval comment. The description also has a large History block that repeats much of the content. Overall it is mostly complete, so the check passes.

Cover or remove the untested recovery frames.

The test loads this transcript, but it stops at the first session/prompt response. The later claude-haiku-4.5 selection and successful prompt are not replayed or asserted. Extend the test to cover that recovery sequence, or remove those frames from the transcript. Registration in fixtures/index.ts is not required for this direct test.

Tried this on Kiro CLI 2.27.1 with an IAM Identity Center login and ran the branch's recorder against the live CLI. simple, multi_turn, queued_turn, message_steering, the supervised/full-access writes, model switch and resume all pass. Two findings:

  1. Stop within ~1 s of sending is ignored by Kiro. turn_interrupt fails 3/3 here (nodes interrupted, completed, interrupted). With raw ACP on Kiro CLI 2.27.1, a session/cancel sent 0–0.5 s after session/prompt is dropped: Kiro still runs sleep 30 and returns end_turn after ~38 s. At +1.5 s or later, or mid-tool, it returns cancelled immediately. Same on claude-opus-4.8, claude-opus-5.5, auto and claude-haiku-4.5.

Codex has the same race (turn/interrupt before turn/started fails with "no active turn"), and CodexAdapterV2 already handles it by waiting for turn/started before interrupting. The equivalent here would be to hold session/cancel until Kiro's first session/update for the prompt. Claude's SDK honours an immediate interrupt, so Kiro is the only one exposed.

  2. Identity Center whoami prints a Profile: block after the JSON line (exit 0), so decoding the whole trimmed stdout fails and the snapshot loses the email. Decoding only the first line fixes it.

Example kiro-cli whoami --format json output for an Identity Center login (exit 0; values replaced with placeholders, layout unchanged):

    {"accountType":"IamIdentityCenter","email":"jane.doe@example.com","region":"us-east-1","startUrl":"https://d-0123456789.awsapps.com/start"}

    Profile:
    KiroProfile-us-east-1
    arn:aws:codewhisperer:us-east-1:111122223333:profile/EXAMPLE12345

Happy to take the deferred pieces (plan mode → proposed-plan card, effort) as follow-ups once this lands.

Thanks for working on this! I’ve been maintaining a downstream T3 Code fork primarily to use Kiro CLI, so I’m excited to move back to upstream once this lands.

I reviewed this PR against current main. A few concrete suggestions that might help get it into nightly:

  • Refreshing the branch: besides the visible merge conflicts, the newly added Kiro files need import updates for the recent provider-directory refactor and Effect’s move from effect/unstable/process to effect/process.
  • TinBane’s early Stop report: Codex’s approach of waiting until the agent has started the turn looks like a useful precedent. For Kiro, cancellation could wait for evidence that the current prompt has started, while also handling completion or process exit. A test that explicitly controls that sequence would help cover the race.
  • Identity Center account details: the account parser currently treats all stdout as JSON. Falling back to the first JSON line when the CLI appends its Profile: block should preserve the email; TinBane’s sanitized output would make a useful regression case.

These suggestions come from source review, not a live test of this branch. Our fork’s integration uses Kiro’s older engine, so I wouldn’t assume its fixes transfer directly to this V3 implementation. Getting the core integration landed, with effort controls and other extensions following later, would already be valuable to us.

Adds a dedicated `kiro` driver on the shared ACP adapter, the way Antigravity
and Grok have one, targeting Kiro CLI V3 (`kiro-cli acp --agent-engine=v3
--auth-method=cli`). `KiroAdapterV2` is a small flavor over `makeAcpAdapterV2`:
policy-driven permissions that only ever pick Kiro's `allow_once`, Autopilot set
from the runtime policy through the new `sessionConfigForPolicy`, and model
switching through `session/set_config_option` on `model`, which Kiro advertises
only after `session/new` (`modelOptionArrivesLate`). The shared adapter also
fills a permission request's missing tool kind from the `tool_call` seen under
the same id.

The driver probes `kiro-cli --version`, `whoami --format json` and, once signed
in, `chat --list-models --format json`. Contracts gain `KiroSettings`, the web
and mobile clients draw the Kiro mark, and the bundled compatibility policy
covers Kiro >= 2.27.0. Replay fixtures recorded live against Kiro 2.27.0 cover
simple, multi-turn, queued, steering, interrupt, resume, permission modes,
model switch and an unknown model.

Rebased onto main: provider files follow the one-module-per-service layout,
`effect/process`, `layer*` names and the renamed replay harness exports. The
recorder and two transcripts now treat the `<pull_request_linking>` body as
T3-owned text, so instruction wording changes no longer break the replays.

`kiro-cli whoami --format json` follows the JSON line with a plain-text
`Profile:` block for an IAM Identity Center login, so decoding all of stdout
failed and the snapshot lost the email. Decode only the first line.

Reported by @TinBane on Kiro CLI 2.27.1.

Kiro CLI 2.27 drops a `session/cancel` that arrives before it has started the
prompt (live: 0-0.5 s after `session/prompt`) and runs the turn to completion.
A new shared ACP flavor option, `cancelAfterPromptStarts`, holds the cancel
until the agent's first prompt-scoped `session/update`, and skips it when the
prompt settles first. Kiro turns it on. This mirrors CodexAdapterV2 waiting for
`turn/started` before `turn/interrupt`.

The ACP replay agent honours `afterMs` on inbound frames, so tests can hold
Kiro's first update until after Stop.

Thanks for the quick fixes. The Identity Center one works against a real IdC login. The Stop fix doesn't take effect live yet: the hold is released by the wrong Kiro event. turn_interrupt still fails 5/5 on e6ea26d (Kiro CLI 2.27.1).

Right after session/prompt, Kiro sends a session_info_update with _meta.kiro.kind: "user_message_id_assigned" (then focus_updates), about 0.6 s before the one with kind: "turn_start". The first update releases the hold, so the cancel still lands in the window Kiro drops. Raw ACP on claude-opus-4.8, two runs each: cancel on user_message_id_assigned → end_turn after ~39 s; cancel on turn_start → cancelled immediately.

So for Kiro the hold probably wants to key on _meta.kiro.kind === "turn_start" (keeping the settle/timeout fallbacks) rather than on any prompt-scoped update. The replay test passes because afterMs delays the first update, which hides the ordering above.

juliusmarminge and others added 3 commits October 6, 2026 19:51
…ock delays

The early-Stop tests delayed Kiro's first frame by 300 ms so Stop landed
before it, which is a sleep the test depends on. They now hold Kiro's frames at
replay gates and release them once the adapter reports, through a new
`onCancelHeld` test hook, that Stop is holding its cancel. Each release waits
for the next gate's label, so the order is fixed and a cancel sent too early is
caught by an assertion. The replay agent's `afterMs` support is unused again
and removed.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
The early-Stop hold released the cancel on the first prompt-scoped
`session/update`. Kiro sends two of those before it will honor a cancel: the
`user_message_id_assigned` echo, milliseconds after `session/prompt`, and the
previous prompt's late `context_usage`, which can land after the next prompt
went out. Either one let the cancel through inside the window Kiro 2.27.1
drops it.

`cancelAfterPromptStarts` is now a flavor predicate over the update. Kiro's
matches only its `session_info_update` with `_meta.kiro.kind: "turn_start"`.
The two recorded Kiro transcripts that Stop before `turn_start`
(`turn_interrupt`, `message_steering`) now expect the cancel right after it.

…back

"Kiro default" returned early without touching the session, so after a turn
on a named model, switching the thread back to default left Kiro running the
named model while T3 showed "Kiro default".

"default" now selects Kiro's own default model and writes it through
`session/set_config_option` when the session runs something else. The id
comes from the provider snapshot, which keeps the `--list-models`
`default_model` as the "Kiro default" entry's alias, and falls back to `auto`.
A new session, where Kiro has not advertised `model` yet, still gets no write.

Merging main left the manifest's updatedAt at main's value, so an install
that cached main's manifest would keep that cache over the bundled kiro
compatibility policy.

Kiro lists a command as pending before it runs, and the old recording's
Stop landed while the command was still pending. The interrupt step can
now wait for a turn item's status. Kiro's variant, re-recorded live on
kiro-cli 2.33.1, stops once the command is running and asserts that Kiro
fails a command that was already running.

An account or organization whose Kiro default is a named model, such as
claude-opus-5.5, saw that model only as "Kiro default", so it looked
missing. The default row keeps the "default" slug, so sessions still
follow Kiro's default, but takes the listed model's name. Without a
readable list it is still "Kiro default".

Thanks @TinBane, all three were useful.

  • Picker label: applied here in 9386a44bac, with you as co-author. A listed default now takes its model's name and keeps the default slug, so sessions still follow Kiro's default. Without a readable model list it is still "Kiro default". KiroProvider.test.ts covers the auto default, a named default, and an unreadable list.
  • /compact: yes please, open it against v2/kiro-acp. A separate PR keeps the shared-adapter hook's review on its own.
  • Context usage: deferring this to a follow-up after this PR lands; #22636 tracks it.

Kiro threads could not compact: the Kiro flavor did not opt into
compaction, and Kiro V3 answers a `/compact` prompt as chat. The shared
ACP adapter gains a `compactSession` flavor hook. When it is set, a
`/compact` turn calls it instead of `session/prompt` and settles through
the usual path, with its "Context compacted" item and T3's instructions
sent again on the next turn. Kiro implements it with
`_kiro/session/compact`, and its snapshot lists `/compact`, which turns on
the composer command and the context meter's Compact button.

TinBane found the gap and proposed this hook.

T3 steered Kiro by cancelling the turn and prompting again. Kiro V3 has
native steering over `_session/steer`: it queues the message and the
model reads it at its next step, after any running tool. The shared ACP
adapter gains a `steering` flavor hook. `steerTurn` sends the message
once the prompt has started, then waits at most 2 s for the agent to
report it delivered or for the turn to end. A steer that lands after the
last step is dropped by Kiro and the turn ends; that fails the steer, and
the orchestrator sends it as a follow-up instead. The bound keeps a Stop
from queueing behind a long tool. A steer with attachments is not
supported, because Kiro takes text only.

Kiro's model ends a steered reply with a `[STEERING steer-…]` note for
Kiro's own UI, so the Kiro flavor drops it from the streamed text.

Kiro moves from the shared `message_steering` fixture to
`kiro_message_steering`, recorded live on kiro-cli 2.33.1, where a
running command keeps the steer inside the turn.

… there

Forking a Kiro thread fell back to T3's portable handoff, because the
shared ACP adapter could only fork an ACP session at its head. Kiro 2.27
and later fork at a prompt: `session/fork` with `_meta.kiro.messageId`
keeps the session through the reply to that prompt. The shared adapter
gains a `forkFromTurn` flavor hook: a turn keeps the agent's id for its
prompt as its native turn ref, and forking from an earlier turn passes
the flavor's `_meta` for that id. A fork from the latest turn stays a
plain head fork. Kiro reads the id from `user_message_id_assigned`.

The fixture DSL gains a `fork` step, and `kiro_fork_from_turn`, recorded
live on kiro-cli 2.33.1, forks from the first of two turns and checks the
fork remembers only that turn.

…ng takes text only

Kiro's `_session/steer` takes a string, so a message with images sent
into a running Kiro turn would fail. Turn capabilities gain an optional
`activeSteeringAcceptsAttachments`. When it is false, the orchestrator
sends a steer with attachments through interrupt-and-restart, the way it
handled every Kiro steer before native steering. Kiro sets it.

The Kiro guide covers steering, forks and `/compact`, and no longer says
T3 never offers Kiro's Always allow.

@TinBane, a change of plan on /compact: we folded it into this PR after all, so there's no need to open your PR. It's in 1c44bfee44, with the hook shape you proposed. A compactSession flavor hook calls _kiro/session/compact instead of sending a prompt. The turn settles through the usual compaction path, T3's instructions go out again on the next prompt, and Kiro's snapshot lists /compact. The commit credits you, and kiro_compaction is a live 2.33.1 recording.

This PR now also maps Kiro's native steering (_session/steer) and fork from a message (session/fork with _meta.kiro.messageId). If you get a chance to try either on your Identity Center setup, reports are welcome. Context usage is still a separate follow-up (#22636).

7-9: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

⚠️ Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Replace the hand-written field helper with a shared Predicate-based helper.

field is a custom runtime type guard built on typeof value === "object" and Reflect.get. The same helper is copied into three new files:

  • kiro_fork_from_turn/output.ts (Lines 7-9)
  • kiro_message_steering/output.ts (Lines 16-18)
  • kiro_compaction/output.ts (Lines 12-14)

The repository guideline forbids hand-written guards like this and requires the Predicate module.

Define one helper in ../shared.ts that uses Predicate.hasProperty. Import it in all three outputs. The three outputs already import from ../shared.ts.

♻️ Proposed shared helper
-function field(value: unknown, key: string): unknown {
-  return typeof value === "object" && value !== null ? Reflect.get(value, key) : undefined;
-}
+import { field } from "../shared.ts";

In shared.ts:

import * as Predicate from "effect/Predicate";

export function field(value: unknown, key: string): unknown {
  return Predicate.hasProperty(value, key) ? value[key] : undefined;
}

As per coding guidelines: "NEVER write your own helper functions like isRecord or isString, instead use the helpers from the Predicate module."

The three new Kiro fixture outputs each copied a hand-written
`typeof`/`Reflect.get` guard. `shared.ts` now exports one `field` reader
on `Predicate.hasProperty`, as the repo's guidelines ask (CodeRabbit).

The effort-advert and unlisted-agent warnings logged model, effort and
agent values from the thread's selection, which can be any string. The
advert timeout now logs whether it waited for the written model, and the
unlisted-agent warning logs how many agents Kiro lists. The rejected
effort keeps its value, which is one Kiro had just advertised
(Macroscope).

Tested on ea359d5 with Kiro CLI 2.34.0, signed in through IAM Identity Center. I re-recorded kiro_message_steering, kiro_fork_from_turn and kiro_compaction live with record-kiro-acp-replay-fixture.ts. All three pass the fixtures' own live assertions.

Scenario What Kiro got Result
Native steering _session/steer mid-turn on the same session, no restart Reply followed the steer ("steering fixture observed"); turn ended end_turn
Fork from a message session/fork with _meta.kiro.messageId, then prompts on the fork Both runs completed; boundary assertions pass
/compact _kiro/session/compact, then a normal prompt Completed; next turn ran normally

The committed Kiro replay suite also passes on this head (17/17).

One suggestion: the fixtures pin claude-haiku-4.5 (KIRO_MODEL_SELECTION in testkit/fixtures/shared.ts). Some orgs disable it, since it costs about 0.4x credits against 0.06x for claude-haiku-5.5 and does worse. On my Identity Center profile every prompt failed with InvalidModelError until I switched. With claude-haiku-5.5 all three scenarios record and pass, so it may be worth moving the pin. Moving it means re-recording the 16 Kiro fixtures, since each one has the model in its transcript.
