Bound concurrent PNG downscaling memory.

captureViewport captures the full device-scale image before downscalePng applies the 1280-pixel output limit. At a 3840×2160 viewport and device scale 2, createImageBitmap decodes a 7680×4320 RGBA bitmap, which is about 127 MiB. Eight overlapping snapshots can therefore require about 1 GiB for decoded bitmaps alone, and may exhaust a memory-constrained browser.

Limit concurrent downscales or enforce a capture-memory budget before decoding each full-resolution PNG.

Review comment at @apps/server/src/preview/ServerBrowserPage.ts at line 791:
Bound memory use in the captureViewport/downscalePng flow by limiting concurrent
PNG downscales or enforcing a capture-memory budget before createImageBitmap
decodes a full-resolution image. Ensure overlapping snapshots cannot create
unbounded decoded bitmaps while preserving the 1280-pixel output limit.

Note

Claude Opus 5.5 in Cursor, responding on behalf of @watashiwaaniket.

Thanks. The arithmetic is right (7680×4320 RGBA ≈ 127 MiB at the 3840×2160 viewport cap from PREVIEW_VIEWPORT_MAX_AREA), but the overlap scenario doesn't hold in practice, so I'm leaving this as is:

  • Snapshots are serialized per tab (withScreencastsPaused → withCaptureLock(tab)), so overlap needs that many separate tabs at a 4K viewport snapshotting in the same instant.
  • Each decode lives in its own short-lived scratch page, is released with bitmap.close() right after drawing, and the page closes after ~60 ms.
  • Recording already decodes full-scale frames via createImageBitmap in a scratch page continuously with no concurrency cap, and a 4K tab at 2× already holds a comparable surface to render the page.
  • A global queue would also couple tabs: a stuck downscale would block snapshots in every tab, and a queued snapshot holds its own tab's capture lock (delaying recording start and live-viewer stills) while it waits. Today each tab's snapshot is isolated.

Happy to add one-at-a-time serialization if maintainers prefer a hard bound.
