fix(mobile): dismiss keyboard interactively while dragging chat - #24484
On mobile, dragging the chat while the prompt keyboard was open did not dismiss it because the thread feed explicitly disabled keyboard dismissal. This made it difficult to return the composer to the bottom of the screen.
Change
Set the thread feed's keyboardDismissMode to React Native's interactive mode. On iOS and Android, the keyboard now follows the user's drag and can be dismissed interactively while scrolling the chat. The latest follow-up commit also selects the native dismissal behavior per platform.
Scope and approval
This is a very small, focused fix for an obvious interaction defect. It changes one existing keyboard-dismissal option in the mobile thread feed and does not add a new workflow or setting.
Visual evidence
iPhone 17 Pro simulator, iOS 26.3, sample conversation.
Before — dragging the conversation leaves the keyboard open.
before.mp4
After — the same downward drag dismisses the keyboard interactively. The unsent draft remains intact.
after.mp4
Android was not captured because this machine has no Android SDK.
Verification
git diff --check passed.
vp run check:changed: formatting, lint, Knip, and the focused test suite passed (5 tests).
Typecheck reached the existing baseline errors in ThreadDetailScreen.tsx and unrelated missing exports in ThreadFeed.tsx; these were present before this change.
Branch is now fully up to date with current main; no merge conflicts.

Review status
CodeRabbit's major finding was addressed and confirmed resolved.
All review threads are currently resolved.
Macroscope flagged this for human approval because it changes an existing user-facing interaction default. That decision is left to a maintainer.
Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This focused mobile change makes the chat feed dismiss the keyboard interactively during dragging for all users, altering an existing user-facing default. The implementation is small and isolated, but the production interaction change warrants human review.

Walkthrough
ThreadFeed now applies platform-specific keyboard dismissal behavior. Android feed drags call KeyboardController.dismiss(). The list uses "interactive" dismissal on iOS and "on-drag" dismissal on other platforms.
pingdotgg/t3code#21595: Both changes use react-native-keyboard-controller for mobile keyboard dismissal. This change calls KeyboardController.dismiss() when an Android thread-feed drag begins.
The keyboard-dismissal change is ready to merge with no identified blocking risk.

Status update: branch is now fully up to date with main (head fea8fb788b). CodeRabbit's major finding was addressed in 79ed6cfae4 and that thread is resolved. CI and the focused passing checks are green. Macroscope previously marked this as needing human approval because it changes the chat's keyboard-dismiss default; happy to adjust the interaction if maintainers prefer a different default or animation behavior. Before/after video of drag-to-dismiss is available on request.
thanks @JamesOBrien2. your platform-specific fix is already the smallest correct change: interactive dismissal on ios and dismissal at drag start on android. i preserved both implementation commits and merged current main without changing the fix. head: 006443e63e5ab8e41751b93aeeb7ea4f49fc91b8. the diff against main remains one line.
verification on this head:
blacksmith vp run check:changed passed format, lint, both knip passes, and mobile/scripts typechecks.
existing feed-follow and thread-list suites passed: 2 files, 90 tests.
two independent code reviews found no actionable issues. the native prop forwarding, existing tap behavior, and draft-on-blur path were inspected.
unverified: native keyboard dragging, cancelled dismissal, composer movement, and tap/draft behavior on device. the device tool reports "Agent device access is turned off for this environment." browser chrome cannot verify this native interaction. no fresh screenshots or recording are claimed; the original evidence remains in the description. maintainer interaction approval remains outstanding.
no changed runtime behavior could be verified on this linux boat vm. this run is unverifiable, not a passing app verification.
inspected the description, discussion, reviews, commits and complete one-line diff at head 006443e63e5ab8e41751b93aeeb7ea4f49fc91b8. the pr remains open and its pr-specific commits are not authored by @juliusmarminge or @t3dotgg. the change is confined to the native mobile ThreadFeed: keyboardDismissMode="none" becomes Platform.OS === "ios" ? "interactive" : "on-drag". the user reaches it by opening a native thread, focusing the composer, then dragging the conversation with the software keyboard open.
native availability checks performed this run:
device_list: Agent device access is turned off for this environment.
adb devices -l: List of devices attached [empty]
host: Linux x86_64
.agents/skills/test-t3-mobile/SKILL.md requires stopping verification when device tools or the selected device are unavailable. no main/pr dev servers, installs, provider turns, mocks or fixtures were started. no source changes or pushes were made. existing github checks have no failures or pending checks (six successful contexts, one skipped); these do not prove native keyboard behavior.

neighboring behavior: unsent draft preservation, taps while the keyboard is open, refocusing the composer, and sending a real codex gpt-6.1-sol turn after dismissal.
no fresh screenshots or recording were captured or uploaded. the existing pr evidence was not reproduced here. desktop chrome or mobile viewport emulation would exercise the separate web client and cannot prove this react native prop works.
verification needs an enabled native device host with a usable ios/android client, followed by matching main/pr runs with real app-created conversations. no claim of functional success is made.
Verified on Android emulator (API 35) against a real dev server
verified on AVD t3, Android API 35, the cached native development client, Metro, and an isolated real dev server at port 13773. used the real server project and created a conversation through the android app. two real Codex gpt-6.1-sol turns completed through the local proxy. no mocks or demo data.
head 006443e63e5ab8e41751b93aeeb7ea4f49fc91b8 was broken on android: dragging the conversation in both directions scrolled its content but left the software keyboard open. keyboardDismissMode="on-drag" alone did not dismiss this native composer.
pushed def32c889e98be4d61080494850a2358e86a6451 to the existing contributor branch. the four-line fix calls KeyboardController.dismiss() from the existing scroll-begin-drag handler on android. the platform-specific prop and ios behavior are preserved.
re-tested in the running native app: dragging dismisses the keyboard, the composer returns to the bottom, and the unsent draft remains unchanged. refocusing opens the keyboard again. sending the preserved draft completed a second real provider turn and cleared the composer. the copy-message control also remained usable. the draft survived app restart during verification.
blacksmith vp run check:changed passed formatting, lint, both knip passes, and mobile/scripts typechecks on the final change. upstream checks were still pending immediately after the push. no merge, rebase, force-push, or label changes were performed.
the screenshots show the same real conversation and draft before and after dismissal. the recording shows the drag and resulting keyboard/composer state. uploaded images were checked and video playback and seeking were exercised.

fixed the failing file-preview suite at its cause: ThreadFeed's native keyboard-controller import was missing a mock in the existing test file. the suite failed before loading tests on the pr; using main's ThreadFeed passed all 89 tests. the three-line mock makes all 89 pass on the pr, without changing runtime behavior.
blacksmith vp run check:changed 476590d0adede15a4eec0d05b8adac8c63736452 passed format, lint, both knip passes, affected mobile/scripts typechecks, the existing file-preview suite, and react compiler checks. two independent reviews of this exact head found no actionable issues. the existing bot finding is addressed and its thread is resolved. waiting for fresh upstream ci.
native interactions were not re-tested this turn: device_list reports "Agent device access is turned off for this environment." prior android evidence remains above and in the description. ios interaction remains unverified. this fixup adds no runtime changes beyond merging main; its only added code is the existing test's native-module mock. final diff: two files, eight insertions, one deletion.
final head ed1742f49605706f1d06ce42aa40f8e2b491253d is green: cafe reports 29/29 successful contexts, zero pending or failing checks, no conflicts, and a mergeable verdict. github reports CLEAN / MERGEABLE; optional jobs skipped normally. all review threads are resolved. no merge performed.
blacksmith also passed all 252 mobile test files (3,036 tests), alongside check:changed. both independent source reviews found no actionable issues on this head.
remaining for maria's review: native interaction was not exercised again this turn because device access is disabled; ios remains unverified. prior android recordings and screenshots remain on the pr. this pass only merged main and added the three-line native-module mock to the existing test.
