Description

Add an integration regression test that passes macOS companion audio through the real discovery, local-media approval and renderer audio-plan implementations. It covers .m4a and .webm system/microphone pairs, timing metadata, media-server approval, MIME types, and suppression of the system-only embedded track. A separate case verifies that external .m4a files still require explicit approval.

Motivation

While investigating silent microphone recordings on v1.4.0, both previously fixed defects were reproducible: discovery returned only the system-only MP4, and the local media policy rejected .m4a. The production fixes already exist in #913 and #1041; this PR adds no duplicate production changes. It guards their combined behavior across the component boundary.

Type of Change

  • Other: integration regression coverage

Related Issue(s)

Related to #912, #1016 and #1077. Complements #913 and #1041.

Testing Guide

  • New tests fail on the v1.4.0 tag: discovery drops the sidecars and approved external M4A remains rejected.
  • With upstream commits e936044 and 66967ac backported onto v1.4.0: 1089 tests pass, TypeScript checking passes, and the Vite renderer/main/preload build succeeds.
  • A separate local-only check using an existing recording and real FFmpeg confirms discovery and approval of both sidecars and inclusion of the mic in the audio plan. No recording or private fixture is included in this PR.
  • On main: 39 focused tests pass; the full suite passes all 1643 tests (including one local-only recording verification, not committed). npm run typecheck, and Biome lint/format checks for the new test pass.
  • Because dependencies were installed with lifecycle scripts disabled, local FFmpeg was linked at the ffmpeg-static binary path for the real-media tests. No dependency or lockfile changes are included.

Run: npm test -- electron/ipc/recording/macAudioPipeline.test.ts

Only Electron app paths and the native FFmpeg probe are mocked. Media decoding, device capture, audible playback and a packaged-app recording session are outside this test's scope.

Checklist

  • Performed a self-review.
  • Linked related issues and prior production fixes.
  • No UI changes, screenshots or changelog entry required.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Added macOS audio-pipeline coverage for companion audio discovery, start-delay metadata, local-media approval, and audio routing during preview and export.
    • Added coverage for explicit approval of an external audio file.

Walkthrough

Adds macOS audio-pipeline tests for .m4a and .webm sidecars. The tests check discovery, microphone delay metadata, local-media approval and content types, and audio routing expectations for preview and export.

Changes: macOS audio pipeline test coverage

Exercise the /video response for both approved sidecars.

The current test checks approval and MIME helpers directly. It does not call the /video handler, so a regression that returns the wrong status, Content-Type, or body can pass. Add an HTTP request for each approved .m4a and .webm sidecar and assert the 200 status, content type, and body.

ensureMediaServer() does not expose a close operation. Do not add teardown code that assumes one exists. Use a testable server lifecycle if this test starts the singleton and requires cleanup.
