Closes #806

Last PR of the chain (#815 migration 000111, #817 PR-B, #818 frontend, #819 PR-C ON CONFLICT on 11 columns). Do not merge before #819 is merged and deployed to dev.

What

Migration 000119 drops the 9-column unique index recommendations_natural_key_az_idx. With the 11-column recommendations_natural_key_az_tp_idx as the only arbiter, EC2 recs that differ only by platform or tenancy coexist in one batch and across runs (no more transitional SQLSTATE 23505).

  • Down: deletes rows that are duplicates under the 9-column key only (keeps newest collected_at, then highest id), then recreates the index exactly as 000109 defined it.
  • Tests: migration test (up/down, coexistence, dedupe, index definition, re-apply), store tests (platform-only and tenancy-only pairs in one batch, same-key re-upsert in place, regional/non-EC2 unaffected, cross-run Linux then Windows, 9-column index gone), and TestPersistCollectionPlatformTenancyInOneBatch using the real convertRecommendations.
  • Verified on a throwaway local PostgreSQL 17 (not a shared DB). The new store/persist tests fail without 000119 and pass with it.

The branch is rebased onto main at c566035 after #870 merged. It inherits the reviewed integration-test timeout and attachment helper through main. Previous published heads are preserved by backup references. This PR contains only the drop-index migration and its focused tests.

Migration number

The original 000112 collided with the already merged step-cap migration. This PR now uses 000119, the next free version after main's 000118 at integration. The down migration returns the schema to 000118 when 000119 is the highest applied migration. Recheck migration ordering before release or rollback.

Prod runbook (order matters)

  1. Read prod's current schema version FIRST.
  2. Dispatch database-migration.yml for 000111 with steps limited to the true count of pending migrations up to and including 000111 only. The workflow default (steps empty or 0) is all and would also apply 000119.
  3. Release PR-C (fix(config): upsert recommendations on the 11-column index with platform and tenancy #819, with fix(purchase): carry EC2 platform and tenancy in rec ID, identity key and idempotency key (#806) #817/fix(frontend): include platform and tenancy in EC2 recommendation cell key #818) to prod.
  4. Only then dispatch this migration immediately.
  5. Never apply this migration before PR-C is live in prod: old code's ON CONFLICT on the 9 columns needs the index and every collection write would fail.

Dev

PR-C merged at ac7c270 and its AWS DEV deployment completed successfully (workflow 38614339391). The DEV Lambda is Active with LastUpdateStatus Successful. The merge ordering prerequisite is satisfied. Dev auto-migrates all pending migrations at startup. Old instances overlapping the rollout keep a valid arbiter only until this migration runs.

Rollback

down is only safe together with a code rollback. PR-C code needs the 11-column arbiter, and once the 9-column index is gone, rolling back PR-C code needs down of this migration (steps=1) first. Down collapses platform/tenancy-only duplicates; the next collection repopulates them.

Independent two-pass Sol-medium review of exact head eb9c3a7 is clean. Its tree is identical to the verified temporary dependency stack. Fresh native macOS PostgreSQL 17 verification used the production migration runner for 118 -> 119 -> 118 -> 119 and checked platform/tenancy/AZ/regional coexistence, exact-duplicate rejection, newest-row deduplication and the restored nine-column index. Focused race tests and build passed. Inputs are synthetic fixtures; no shared or deployed database was written. Fresh required CI on this head is required before merge.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Recommendation records that share a resource but differ by platform or tenancy can now be stored separately, rather than conflicting with one another.
    • Subsequent collections update matching recommendations without creating duplicate records.
    • Recommendations in different availability zones remain distinct, while exact duplicates continue to be rejected.

Independent Sol-medium review, two full-PR adversarial passes, exact head 1f79ebe, tree dd3835595296833e9c69207c9c452232c0e83078: CLEAN.

Migration 000119 drops the legacy nine-column recommendation index only. The retained eleven-column index matches PR-C's production conflict target. Down keeps the newest row under the nine-column key, breaking ties by id, and recreates migration 000109's index shape. Review checked the migration order, exact index definitions, store arbiter, test coverage and scheduler conversion path.

Fresh local macOS evidence: build passed; focused race tests for migrations, config and scheduler passed. An owned native PostgreSQL 17 fixture database exercised the production MigrateToVersion runner through 118 -> 119 -> 118 -> 119. Platform-only, tenancy-only and AZ siblings, regional rows, exact duplicate rejection, rollback deduplication and re-apply all passed. Synthetic fixture inputs are labelled; no existing database or provider was written. Scratch server stopped and the source worktree is clean.

Deployment order: PR819 merged at ac7c270; its exact AWS DEV deployment workflow 38614339391 completed SUCCESS. The DEV Lambda is Active/Successful. Read-only DEV inspection before that deployment found schema118 clean with both valid unique indexes. There is no real purchase or manual deployment authorization implied by this review.

The original PR821 head 57a0e0b is retained by a backup reference. The migration was renumbered to avoid the existing112 collision and rebased after PR819. Required CI must be freshly green on the exact named head before normal merge.

Migration 000112 drops recommendations_natural_key_az_idx so EC2 recs that
differ only by platform or tenancy coexist; the 11-column index from 000111
is the upsert arbiter since PR-C. Down collapses platform/tenancy-only
duplicates (keeps newest collected_at) and recreates the 9-column index as
000109 defined it. Adds store, persistCollection and migration tests.

Both required workflows succeeded on eb9c3a7. The final merge check found two new CodeRabbit findings on that head: blocking index-drop locking and the repeated-collection row-count assertion. Merge is held while independent source review checks the migration runner's transactional/recovery contract and the test's constraints. These findings must be resolved before normal merge.

Both required workflows succeeded on eb9c3a7. Two independent source-triage passes completed for the two new CodeRabbit findings; no source change is required. The index-drop lock is an accepted, documented trade-off for this regenerable cache, and the proposed duplicate-growth case is ruled out by the fixed fixtures, unique non-null eleven-column key, error assertions and existing raw-count re-upsert regression. Full evidence is recorded on both inline threads; neither conversation was hidden or resolved by a UI action.

The project's exact-revision independent-review path covers this head, with fresh native PostgreSQL 17 migration-runner proof, build, race tests, integration compilation, normal hooks and all required CI successful. No additional bot review is claimed. The pre-existing inaccurate driver transaction/recovery comments are tracked separately in #874. Normal exact-head merge remains subject to the fresh main/protection check.

Deployed: PR #821 merged normally at a3bc552. Automatic AWS deployment 38648834630 succeeded.

Verified against actual DEV after deployment using the existing approved read-only route: schema version 119, dirty=false; the legacy nine-column index is absent; recommendations_natural_key_az_tp_idx is unique and valid with all eleven intended columns. Armed multi-step Savings Plan count remains zero. The query used BEGIN READ ONLY and ROLLBACK and completed successfully, including tunnel cleanup. No application invocation, manual migration, database write or provider purchase was performed for verification.

The independently reviewed head's required CI passed before merge. All four post-merge workflows succeeded: full CI 38648834550, automatic AWS deployment 38648834630, pre-commit 38648834662 and frontend 38648834739. Every watcher reached its terminal result. Native PostgreSQL 17 fixture verification additionally passed the production runner's 118 -> 119 -> 118 -> 119 path, coexistence, exact-duplicate rejection and rollback deduplication.

The recommendation-index issue is resolved in DEV. The separate pre-existing transaction/recovery comment inaccuracies are tracked in #874. The migration's accepted cache-lock trade-off and the test-assertion review disposition are documented on PR #821's inline threads.
