docs(claude): coordinate parallel work through issue assignment - #892
Conversation
Document how people and their agents pick issues in priority order and claim them by self-assignment (or a claim comment without write access) before starting, so two contributors never fix the same issue in parallel. Same section as LeanerCloud/cloud-commitments-cli#2202 and LeanerCloud/cloud-commitments-mcp#62. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Synced a fix raised on LeanerCloud/cloud-commitments-go#421: the post-claim |
Assignment times aren't visible to gh issue view and keyword matching both misses takeovers and keeps released claims, so claims, takeovers and releases are now marker comments whose timestamps decide precedence. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Independent review of 0060194: no actionable findings
Docs-only change: +83 lines in CLAUDE.md (new section "Issue assignment", inserted before "Post-push CI watcher"). Base is current origin/main (e003025, merge-base equal), so no rebase drift.
Findings (all nits, none block merge)
- nit,
CLAUDE.mdstep 1/2: every agent in this repo's fleet runs under one GitHub login. Two agents of the same login cannot tell which "earliest active claim" is theirs, so "if that is not you, release" is ambiguous between sibling agents. The~/.claude/agent-comms/bus covers same-machine agents and the section says so; cross-machine agents on one account are not covered. Suggested: one sentence saying claims from the same login are resolved through the bus or by including a worker id in the marker body. - nit, step 2/3: anyone, including a non-collaborator, can post
Claiming:and block the issue for 10 days (7 stale + 3 reply). The text gives maintainers no override. Suggested: "a maintainer's assignment orTaking over:overrides any claim". - nit, step 5 and step 2: "edit your comment to
Released: ..." has no command, unlike every other step.gh issue comment <N> --edit-last --body ...would work, or just post a newReleased:comment, which the marker logic already supports. - nit, step 1:
--limit 500truncates silently if the queue grows past 500 (open issues today: 418,no:assigneealso 418). - nit, process: the PR has no labels and no closing issue, so the "PR labeling" rule has nothing to mirror. Acceptable for a contributor docs PR, but the gap is unrecorded in the PR body.
- nit, style: the new heading uses an em-dash. Matches existing headings in this file, so not a regression.
What I attacked
- Contradictions with the rest of
origin/mainCLAUDE.md: read Review gate, PR labeling, CI watcher, CR loop and Multi-Agent Communication. The new section adds a pre-work step only.Closes #<N>is consistent with the labeling rule. "bus below" resolves (Multi-Agent Communication is the last section). No conflict with the gate, watcher or CR loop. - Commands run read-only against
LeanerCloud/cloud-commitments-platform:- Each p0..p3 query and the no-priority query run fine (p0: 0 results; p1: 16 of 17 unassigned/unblocked; p2: 207 of 209; p3: 182 of 185; unlabelled: 7). All referenced labels exist (
priority/p0..p3,status/blocked,status/needs-info,status/wontdo). - The marker-comment
gh issue view --json comments --jqfilter exits 0 on an issue with no markers (#891). - The
gh pr list --search "<N> in:body"form works. Mutating commands (comment, edit --add/--remove-assignee) were not run; their flag syntax is valid perghand the account has push access.
- Each p0..p3 query and the no-priority query run fine (p0: 0 results; p1: 16 of 17 unassigned/unblocked; p2: 207 of 209; p3: 182 of 185; unlabelled: 7). All referenced labels exist (
- markdownlint:
markdownlint -c .markdownlint.yaml CLAUDE.mdat the PR SHA exits 0 (markdownlint-cli 0.49.1 locally; the pre-commit hook pins v0.47.0, so the hook itself was not executed). Base file also exits 0. - Sibling text: PR #2202 (cloud-commitments-cli, head 0e801b57) and PR #62 (cloud-commitments-mcp, head 2d58a84f) are both still OPEN, not merged. The added lines of this PR and of #2202 are byte-identical after substituting the repo name (diff empty); #62 differs from #2202 only in repo names. The PR body's "identical" claim holds; "already went through several CodeRabbit rounds" is true but the siblings are not merged references.
- CodeRabbit: its only actionable item (line 114, include comments in the recheck) was on d9cc70a and is addressed in the final text (the
--json commentscheck). There are 0 inline review threads. CR's status on the head SHA is "Review rate limited" (reported as success), so CR never reviewed 0060194. Under the gate CR is optional when independent review plus local verification cover the SHA. - Mutation/deletion probes: not applicable to prose; no code, tests or config changed.
Why checks show BLOCKED / a null check
- The only check on the head is the
CodeRabbitcommit status, with an empty target URL and the description "Review rate limited". - Both workflow runs for this SHA (
CI - Build & Test,pre-commit) have conclusionaction_requiredwith zero jobs: the repo's fork-PR approval policy isfirst_time_contributors, and the author is a first-time contributor from a fork, so a maintainer must approve the runs. - The ruleset
protect-default-branchrequires the contextsCI SuccessandRun pre-commit hooks. Neither has reported, somergeStateStatusis BLOCKED althoughmergeableis MERGEABLE and no review is required.
Gate status (origin/main Review gate)
- Independent review naming the SHA: this comment.
- Actionable findings resolved: yes (CR's one item fixed; no new actionable findings).
- CI green on the SHA: NOT met. Runs await maintainer approval; required checks not yet reported.
- Local verification: done as above (commands executed, lint clean). It is not real-account verification; no write command was executed.
- Verdict, SHA and evidence recorded on the PR: this comment. Any new commit or rebase restarts the gate.
Worker ids for agents sharing a login, maintainer override, a command for releasing (post a new Released: marker), a higher result limit with a note that it truncates silently. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Independent review of 95ee47e: no actionable findings
Delta reviewed: 006019414d..95ee47e44c (CLAUDE.md only, +18 -9), plus the full diff against origin/main (e003025, equal to the merge-base, so no drift). Still docs-only, still within the 400-line cap.
Findings (all NON-BLOCKING nits)
CLAUDE.md:133,149,161: the new rule says each worker puts its worker id in "every marker", but the copy-paste examples forReleased:(line 133, line 161) andTaking over:(line 149) carry no id. Under a shared login aReleased:without an id cannot be attributed to a worker, so it does not end that worker's claim by the section's own rule. Suggested: add[<worker-id>]to those three examples.CLAUDE.md:144-145: "A maintainer's assignment orTaking over:overrides any claim" is ambiguous. Read as "anyTaking over:", it contradicts the rest of step 3, whereTaking over:supersedes only the stale owner's claim and an earlier active claim still wins. Read as "a maintainer'sTaking over:", it is consistent with the 7+3 day flow (the flow is the path for non-maintainers). Suggested: "A maintainer's assignment or a maintainer'sTaking over:overrides any claim; everyone else uses the 7+3 day flow below."CLAUDE.md:98: the reflowed line is 190 characters. Not a lint issue (see below), only a readability nit, as the neighbouring lines wrap at ~100.
What I attacked
- markdownlint (
markdownlint -c .markdownlint.yaml CLAUDE.md, 0.49.1) exits 0 at this SHA..markdownlint.yamlsetsMD013: false, so the long line (and the existing 257/217-character lines) cannot fail the hook. The pre-commit hook itself (pinned v0.47.0) was not run locally; its CI job is running (below). - 1000-result cap claim: accurate. The REST search API on this repo returns
422 Only the first 1000 search results are availablefor page 11 of 100 (read-only call).gh issue list --searchgoes through GitHub search, which has the same documented limit. I could not reproduce the silent truncation throughghitself: the repo has 590 issues in total (418 open), under the cap.--limit 1000is therefore the right ceiling, and the "if exactly 1000, split bycreated:windows" advice is sound (created:<Dandcreated:>=Dare non-overlapping). - Release comment: the new
gh issue comment ... --body "Released: ..."command is valid. A laterReleased:from the same author/worker ends the claim under the existing "latest marker" rule, so replacing "edit your comment" is correct. - Marker filter vs worker id: the
--jqfilter matches^(Claiming|Taking over|Released):and printssplit("\n")[0], so a trailing[cc-platform-w3]on the first line is printed and does not affect the match. Consistent, subject to nit 1. - Contradictions with the rest of origin/main CLAUDE.md (gate, labeling, CI watcher, CR loop, comms bus): none; the bus reference ("same-machine agents can also use the bus below") resolves.
- Mutation/deletion probes: not applicable to prose.
Gate status (origin/main Review gate)
- Independent review naming the SHA: this comment.
- Findings resolved: no blocking findings; the three nits are optional.
- CI on the SHA: pending at the time of review. Runs 38822629087 (pre-commit) and 38822629117 (CI - Build & Test) were in progress / queued; required contexts
CI SuccessandRun pre-commit hookshad not completed, mergeStateStatusBLOCKED. Merge only after both are green. - Local verification: commands and lint run as above; no real-account verification and no write commands executed.
- CodeRabbit: status SUCCESS on the head; no inline threads.
- Verdict recorded on the PR: this comment. Any new commit restarts the gate.
…rride, show assignees in the claim check Rewrites steps 2, 3 and 5 for readability: commands in fenced blocks wrapped under 100 columns, [<worker-id>] in every marker example, the override limited to a maintainer's assignment or Taking over:, and the post-claim check printing assignees alongside the markers. Independent delta review of 711a5e1 (previous: 95ee47e): no actionable findings
Docs-only: CLAUDE.md, +49 -33 in the delta (OLD_SHA is an ancestor of NEW_SHA). Against origin/main (e003025, equal to the merge-base, PR is MERGEABLE) the PR is still one file, within the 400-line cap.
Previous findings
| # | Previous finding | Status | Evidence at 711a5e1 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Released: / Taking over: examples lack the worker id the rule requires |
RESOLVED | the Claiming:, both Released: and the Taking over: examples (step 2, 3 and 5 of the new section) all end with [<worker-id>]; step 2 states to omit it only when the login is not shared |
| 2 | "A maintainer's assignment or Taking over: overrides any claim" ambiguous vs. step 3 stale-owner takeover |
RESOLVED | Now "A maintainer's assignment or a maintainer's Taking over: overrides any claim; everyone else uses the flow below." The non-maintainer Taking over: still supersedes only the stale owner's claim, so the two rules no longer conflict |
| 3 | Long reflowed line at the 1000-result paragraph | RESOLVED | Re-wrapped; remaining long lines are the --search strings, which cannot be wrapped (and MD013 is off) |
CodeRabbit's two open items at the old SHA (post-claim check must show assignees; takeover precedence wording) are addressed by the same hunks. The threads are marked resolved/outdated; the two CR reviews on 711a5e1 carry no new comments.
New findings
None. Attacked the delta as new code:
- The rewritten
gh issue view --json assignees, comments --jqsnippet: ran the filter locally on a sample payload with jq; it prints theassignees:line and one line per marker comment, no syntax error. - Marker regex
^(Claiming|Taking over|Released):still matches all three example bodies including the trailing[<worker-id>]. - Re-checked step 2 -> 3 -> 5 for contradictions: release (step 2 and 5) uses the latest-marker rule; takeover keeps "any other active claim posted before your takeover still wins"; the maintainer override is the only exception and is now scoped to maintainers.
- NON-BLOCKING nit only: the sentence "leave it out if the login is yours alone" is fine, but the step 2
Released:example is shown with the id while the text says it is optional; harmless.
Verification
markdownlint -c .markdownlint.yaml CLAUDE.md(config from the PR head) exits 0. The pinned pre-commit hook itself was not run locally.- Read-only
ghcommands in the section were checked for syntax (jq filter exercised above); noghwrite command was executed. - No code touched, so no Go/frontend tests apply.
Gate status (origin/main Review gate)
- Independent review naming the SHA: this comment.
- Actionable findings resolved: yes (no open actionable items from me; CR threads resolved/outdated).
- CI on the SHA: NOT green yet.
pre-commit(run 38823651104) andCI - Build & Test(run 38823651141) areaction_required(fork PR, awaiting maintainer approval); no checks have run on 711a5e1. This is the only thing blocking merge. - Local real-path verification: markdownlint plus jq exercise of the documented command, labeled as such; real GitHub issue claim flow was not exercised (no write commands run).
- Verdict and SHA recorded on the PR: this comment.
- Labels: none, and no closing issue; the PR body records why, so there is nothing to mirror.
Nothing blocks merge apart from CI (approve the two action_required runs and get them green).

Independent delta review of a2f0e54 (previous: 711a5e1): no actionable findings
Docs-only. The delta is one hunk in CLAUDE.md (+2 -1, step 2 gh issue view filter). OLD_SHA is the parent. Against origin/main (e003025, equal to the merge-base) the PR is still one file, +109 lines, MERGEABLE.
Findings
None blocking. Previous review (711a5e1) had no open findings, so there is nothing to carry over.
NON-BLOCKING nit: the new test("claimed by"; "i") is unanchored and case-insensitive, so unrelated comments such as "Already Claimed By someone" are listed too. It only adds output lines for a human to read, and the step 2 text already says a legacy claimed by <worker> comment means the issue is taken, so over-listing errs safe. No change needed.
What I attacked
- Ran the changed
--jqfilter with jq on a sample payload: aClaiming: x [w1]marker, a legacyclaimed by worker-7comment, a mixed-caseAlready Claimed By someone, an unrelated comment, and aReleased: claimed by someone else first [w2]marker. Output: theassignees:line, then exactly the marker, both legacy comments and the release, each once; the unrelated comment was dropped; exit 0. The release marker is not duplicated by theorbranch. - Parentheses and operator precedence in the new
select((...) or (...))are correct (it parsed and filtered as intended). markdownlint -c .markdownlint.yaml CLAUDE.md(config and file from a2f0e54) exits 0.- The delta does not touch the claim-resolution rules, so the earlier resolutions for the worker-id examples and the maintainer-override wording still hold.
Gate status (origin/main Review gate)
- Independent review naming the SHA: this comment (head was a2f0e54 when posting).
- Findings resolved: yes, none open from me.
- CI on the SHA: GAP.
pre-commitandCI - Build & Testruns 38824517778 and 38824517785 areaction_required(awaiting maintainer approval); nothing has run. Merge needs these approved and green. - Local verification: markdownlint plus a jq exercise of the changed command, labeled as such; no real GitHub claim flow or
ghwrite command was run. - Verdict and SHA recorded on the PR: this comment.
- Labels: none, no closing issue (PR body explains).
Nothing blocks merge apart from CI.

Several people and their agents can then work through the issue queue in parallel without fixing the same thing twice.priority/p0→p3, oldest first, then unlabelled), skippingstatus/blocked,status/needs-infoandstatus/wontdo, and anything with an open PR. No closing issue: this is a contributor docs change, so there are no issue labels to mirror under the PR labeling rule.
