Scale weighings (the observation rows with key weight, written since #608/#612) now show up in the 180-day weight trend on the journal compose screen. Until now the trend only read weights typed into the journal, so a paired scale never reached the graph.

What changes

  • New weighings() and pure weighingChain in lib/compute/inputs/measurement_inputs.dart. They keep a weighing only if it is within a chained 10% household band of the previous kept one (nearWeight / kWeighingBand). That drops a guest or child stepping on the scale. After 3 consecutive rejects that are near each other, the chain re-seeds, so a real sustained change is not rejected forever.
  • Weighings dated in the future are dropped.
  • If the scale read fails, the trend falls back to manual weights only and logs with debugPrint.
  • _WeightTrend / weightByDay in journal_compose.dart merge both sources: one value per local day, newest wins. A journal weight with no time loses to a scale weighing on the same day (deliberate).
  • The footnote journalComposeTrendFootnote is reworded in en/de/es. The arb and generated Dart were edited by hand, no gen-l10n run.

Not changed: no schema change, no new metric, no goal weight (see the MT-03 note in lib/data/journal_fields.dart).

Tests: test/weight_trend_scale_test.dart; 53 related test files (658 tests) pass.

Known limits

  • A guest or child as the very first weighing stays in the trend; the band only filters later ones.
  • The scale rows are read sequentially, which costs a little latency.

Independent of the Health export PR (#667); the files are disjoint.

Summary by Sourcery

Add paired-scale measurements to the journal weight trend while filtering unrelated, invalid, and future readings.

New Features:

  • Include paired scale weighings in the journal’s 180-day weight trend alongside manually entered weights.

Bug Fixes:

  • Filter future-dated and likely unrelated scale readings while allowing sustained weight changes to enter the trend.
  • Preserve the manual-only trend when scale data cannot be read.

Enhancements:

  • Merge manual and scale measurements into one local-day value, preferring the later measurement and using deterministic household-band filtering.

Documentation:

  • Update the weight-trend footnote in English, German, and Spanish to mention scale measurements.

Tests:

  • Add coverage for scale gating, chained weighing filtering, date handling, local-day bucketing, source precedence, and failure-safe trend behavior.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Weight trends now include eligible readings from paired scales alongside manually entered weights. When both are available for a day, the later reading is shown, and scale readings are filtered for consistency.
    • Scale readings can be limited by proximity to profile weight and by date range.
  • Bug Fixes
    • If scale readings cannot be loaded, weight trends still display available manual entries.
  • Documentation
    • Updated trend descriptions to clarify that weights may be entered manually or measured by a scale.

Walkthrough

Weight trends now combine valid manual journal weights with qualifying scale readings. The weighing helpers retrieve and filter readings. The trend footnote identifies both data sources.

The trend can temporarily omit valid scale readings, retain an extra day after midnight, and become slower as scale history grows. These are bounded display and latency concerns, so the change is mergeable with owner awareness and follow-up.

Reviewer's Guide

The PR extends the journal’s 180-day weight trend to merge eligible paired-scale observations with manual entries, using device/profile gates and a deterministic outlier-resistant chain, while preserving manual data on scale failures and adding comprehensive behavior coverage plus localized footnote updates.

<issue_to_address>
**Guest weights enter personal trend**

When a guest or child is first on an enabled scale, or records three consecutive readings near one another but outside the user’s existing chain, `weighingChain` accepts the guest’s first weighing as its anchor, and promotes a sustained run of off-band readings; `weightByDay` then places those values in the app user’s trend without identifying whose weight they are, exposing the guest’s health data to the account holder.

Require explicit attribution or confirmation before including scale readings that cannot be tied to the app user.

</code_context>
<issue_to_address>
**Trend window shifts across time zones**

When the device’s local time zone is not UTC and scale readings fall near the first day of the 180-day window, `DateTime.parse(since)` treats the date-only label as UTC, while `weighings` buckets readings by local day, so the cutoff excludes early readings on the first day or includes readings from the prior local day and the graph shows the wrong window.

Construct the cutoff as local midnight for `since` before passing its milliseconds to `weighings`.

<issue_to_address>
**Localized footnotes misstate weight source**

When the trend includes scale readings and the app is displayed in a supported locale other than English, German, or Spanish, the unchanged `journalComposeTrendFootnote` translations still say the weight was entered by the user, so users see an inaccurate description beneath the chart.

Update the remaining localized `journalComposeTrendFootnote` messages to reflect that the trend can include scale readings.

+    if (newest == null || w.atMs > newest.atMs) newest = w;
+  }
</code_context>
<issue_to_address>
**Newest lookup buffers all readings**

When the paired scale has accumulated a large history, `newestWeighing` calls `weighings`, which accumulates every eligible reading before the caller scans for the maximum. `AppState.adoptWeighing` only needs the newest record, so its memory and work grow with the scale’s entire history instead of retaining a running maximum; long histories add avoidable latency and allocation.

Let `newestWeighing` find the maximum while reading each device’s values, or add a database query that returns only the newest eligible reading.
</issue_to_address>

+    });
+
</code_context>
<issue_to_address>
**Fixed dates expire in tests**

When the tests run before 2026-10-16 (the scale-only case is affected before 2026-10-03), the `scale-only day` test (line 51) and `a gradual 95 to 80 kg loss` test (line 88) call `weightByDay` without `nowMs`; it uses the real clock and drops future-dated readings, so these tests fail even when the filtering is correct.

Pass a fixed `nowMs` later than all fixture readings to each `weightByDay` call that expects scale data.

Also at `test/weight_trend_scale_test.dart:88`.

Trim the trend to the current 180-day window before setState.

_load captures start before it awaits journalMetricsByDay and weighings. If local midnight passes during those reads, the queries still use the earlier start. Rows dated one day before the current window then reach the chart. Filter the weightByDay output by the current window start before calling setState.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Skip a device whose observation read fails, instead of discarding every scale reading.

weighings() builds its list with _eachWeighing(...).toList(), and _eachWeighing does not catch errors from LocalDb.deviceObservationValues. If one enabled device's read throws, the whole list fails. The screen's catch then sets scale to empty, so readings from the healthy device are dropped. Wrapping that one call in _eachWeighing isolates the failure to the device that failed:

Bound the scale read, or accept the full-history cost on the trend open.

weighings() without fromMs reads every weight row of each paired scale. The query visits every observation of that device with ts_ms >= 0, then keeps only key = 'weight'. Before this change, the read started at the window. Bounding it changes the chain anchor, so the fix needs a design decision.
