feat: one-click component inspector via vue-tracer's dock action - #1150
we expected the Inspect button to remain easily accessible from the small DevTools menu […]
when clicking the inspect-component button inside DevTools, we expected the DevTools panel to close automatically so we could select a component on the page
@devframes/hub-ui, @devframes/agentic and @devframes/json-render-ui are now overridden too, since @vitejs/devtools kept them on 1.2.6.
Dock button. Nuxt enables vue-tracer's "Inspect Vue component" toggle action (viteDevtools: { onPick: 'none' }). It is one click from the dock, toggled with Mod+Shift+X, cancelled with Escape, and highlighted while on. Picks still show Nuxt's inspect popup instead of opening the editor right away.
One code path.inspector.enable/disable/toggle, which the Components tab button uses, now drives that action, so the hub owns hiding and restoring the panel. Nuxt's own hide/restore from the earlier version of this PR is gone.
Panel stays hidden until the inspect popup closes. Flow: click the inspector → the panel hides and picking starts → click an element → Nuxt's inspect popup shows → any of its actions (Open, Info, ✕), a click outside, or Escape closes it and brings the panel back. A pick ends vue-tracer's tool and the hub restores the panel at once, so the host hides it again right after (a microtask after the pick) and reopens it when the popup closes. It only uses the hub's public panel.session.open; vue-tracer and devframe need nothing Nuxt-specific. If the panel was closed before inspecting, it stays closed.
Popup actions close it. Open in editor and Info (copy for agents) now close the popup, as does Escape; Select parent keeps it open, since it refines the selection. The copy toast outlives the popup.
Inspect popup stays on top. When a pick ends, vue-tracer turns its tool off and the hub brings the DevTools panel back, which covered Nuxt's inspect popup. The popup now lives in the browser's top layer (Popover API, popover="manual"), which sits above any z-index, and is raised again on each pick. Browsers without the Popover API keep the previous z-index. Nothing Nuxt-specific is needed in vue-tracer or devframe.
Fix devtools.close(). Setting panel.session.open = false alone only collapses the dock bar; it now closes the panel the way the hub's own close does (switchEntry(null) + open = false).
Docs: the features page lists the dock button, the Components tab button and the shortcut.
Note
#1154 (a general dependency update) was accidentally merged into this branch. It's reverted here and re-applied on main in #1155, so this PR only carries its own devframe / vite-plugin-vue-tracer bump.
Verification
Playwright against playgrounds/empty (NUXT_DEVTOOLS_LOCAL=1), starting from the Components tab, checking hub state and whether the client iframe is actually rendered. The same five steps were run once for each way of closing the popup: ✕, click outside, Open, Info, Escape.

Also checked: the dock button, Ctrl+Shift+X and Escape toggle the tool and restore the panel. Where the popup overlaps DevTools UI, the popup is the topmost element. Once the popup is closed it no longer catches clicks.
pnpm lint, pnpm typecheck and pnpm test:unit pass.
The lockfile also moves @nuxt/cli-nightly to a newer nightly. pnpm re-resolved it, as a transitive dependency of the pinned Nuxt nightly, when devframe changed the peer graph; it only affects local dev tooling.

Walkthrough
Vue tracer setup registers a component-inspection dock action outside SSR. The client adds the Alt+Shift+C shortcut and coordinates panel visibility with inspector visibility. Closing the panel now clears its selected dock entry. The feature documentation describes the available inspector launch controls and panel behaviour.
The remaining issues are bounded panel-state UX regressions and do not indicate data loss or an outage, but should be fixed in follow-up work.

- Around line 215-216: Gate the KeyC shortcut in the client handler on the same

the inspector when component inspection is disabled.

- Hide the DevTools panel while the component inspector is picking and
bring it back on the same tab once the inspector is closed.
- Fix `devtools.close()`: setting `panel.session.open` alone only collapses
the dock bar, the panel stays on screen while an entry is selected.

…v1.7.0
Also override `@devframes/hub-ui`, `@devframes/agentic` and
`@devframes/json-render-ui`, which `@vitejs/devtools` otherwise kept on
1.2.6, so the whole devframe family is on one version.

- Enable vite-plugin-vue-tracer's "Inspect Vue component" dock action
(`viteDevtools: { onPick: 'none' }`), so the inspector is one click away
and toggled with Mod+Shift+X; picks still open Nuxt's inspect panel.
- Route `inspector.enable/disable/toggle` (the Components tab button)
through that action, so the hub hides and restores the DevTools panel,
and drop Nuxt's own panel hide/restore.

changed the title
fix: move the panel out of the way while inspecting components
feat: one-click component inspector via vue-tracer's dock action
Nov 1, 2026
When a pick ends, vue-tracer turns its dock tool off and the hub brings
the DevTools panel back, covering the inspect panel shown for the pick.
Show the inspect panel in the browser's top layer (Popover API), which
sits above any z-index, and raise it again on each pick. Browsers without
the Popover API keep the previous z-index.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Includes the fix for toggle dock actions not hiding the panel
(devframes/devframe#477). Also exclude `@devframes/agentic` from the
minimum release age by name, like the rest of the devframe packages.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A pick ends vue-tracer's dock tool, and the hub brought the DevTools panel
back at the same moment the inspect panel appeared. Keep it hidden while
the inspect panel is showing, and bring it back when that closes. Open in
editor, copy info and Escape now close the inspect panel too, like the
close button and a click outside.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
With devframe 1.3, the floating dock renders the same entries next to the
expanded sidebar once a dock is selected, so `getByRole('button', { name })`
matched two buttons. This change came with #1154, which was reverted on
this branch.

User feedback on 4.0.0 (tracked in #1153):
Changes
@devframes/hub-ui,@devframes/agenticand@devframes/json-render-uiare now overridden too, since@vitejs/devtoolskept them on 1.2.6.viteDevtools: { onPick: 'none' }). It is one click from the dock, toggled withMod+Shift+X, cancelled with Escape, and highlighted while on. Picks still show Nuxt's inspect popup instead of opening the editor right away.inspector.enable/disable/toggle, which the Components tab button uses, now drives that action, so the hub owns hiding and restoring the panel. Nuxt's own hide/restore from the earlier version of this PR is gone.panel.session.open; vue-tracer and devframe need nothing Nuxt-specific. If the panel was closed before inspecting, it stays closed.popover="manual"), which sits above any z-index, and is raised again on each pick. Browsers without the Popover API keep the previous z-index. Nothing Nuxt-specific is needed in vue-tracer or devframe.devtools.close(). Settingpanel.session.open = falsealone only collapses the dock bar; it now closes the panel the way the hub's own close does (switchEntry(null)+open = false).Note
