What and why

JavaScript and TypeScript decorators currently leave @ as text and classify bare decorator names as variables, while Python classifies called and bare decorators differently. This makes equivalent decorator syntax render inconsistently.

Recognize JavaScript-family decorator markers as operators and bare decorator names as functions. Preserve namespace/member classifications for qualified decorators. Python decorator detection follows logical lines and bracket context so matrix multiplication keeps its existing classifications; streaming checkpoints also preserve escaped line continuations while retaining checkpoints after comments ending in a backslash.

Consolidate function lookahead result handling and colon options, simplify equivalent JavaScript string/number regexes, and share HTML escape replacements. These reductions retain the public API, all 48 languages, and streaming behavior. Add decorator regression tests, corpus fixtures, a core patch changeset, and updated release and bundle-size documentation.

Add repository-level CodeRabbit configuration with assertive automatic reviews for ready PRs, review status messages, no poems, and no commit-count auto-pause. Inherit organization settings and provide Kirari-specific instructions for core tokenization/streaming, React, and Rehype; keep documentation eligible for review.

Closes #8

Bundle measurements

Browser ESM, Bun 1.3.4 minification, gzip level 9, CSS excluded:

Entry Current main This PR
Core API 3,716 B 3,728 B
Full JavaScript entry 4,241 B 4,247 B
All 48 languages 22,889 B 22,960 B
Tree-shaken highlight() setup 4,142 B 4,146 B

The optimization pass reduces the decorator-fixed JavaScript draft from 4,300 to 4,247 gzip bytes. The homepage and Compare page measure the highlight-only setup, which rounds to 4.1 KB; the full JavaScript entry rounds to 4.2 KB. Existing size budgets remain unchanged.

Validation

bun run check passed all 881 tests, including package builds, types, corpus coverage, integrations, size budgets, docs build, and packed-package consumers. After updating the documentation, the docs check passed again with 106 tests and verification of 17 prerendered pages and 13 Markdown endpoints.

Additional comparisons against the decorator-fixed preoptimization snapshot passed for 446 cases across all 48 languages: 18,236 token/render prefixes and 17,790 streaming patches, including reset/end parity. Focused escaping and JavaScript regex checks passed 335,331 further comparisons.

The CodeRabbit YAML passes the current official JSON schema with no unknown or deprecated options; all instruction paths match source files. Biome and whitespace checks pass. This configuration-only commit changes no runtime code or package contents.

The docs build retains five existing filesystem-tracing warnings. Full performance benchmarks were not rerun.

Checklist

  • bun run check passes
  • Tests cover the change
  • Changeset added (bunx changeset), or not needed for docs, tests, or internal changes
  • Docs updated if behavior or APIs changed

Walkthrough

The pull request updates decorator tokenization for JavaScript, TypeScript, and Python. It also changes Python resumable-scan checkpoints, simplifies several bundle-related implementations, adds decorator tests, and updates bundle-size measurements.

Function lookup uses colon and decorator metadata. The language rules classify decorator markers and names, reject attribute access as a decorator name, and skip Python checkpoints after a backslash-continued line.
Decorator and continuation tests

Explanation

Issue #8 requires operator classification for @, function classification for bare and called decorators, and preserved namespace/member classification. The decorator tests cover JavaScript, TypeScript, JSX, TSX, and Python. definitions.ts adds Python logical-line decorator detection and excludes qualified names and matrix multiplication. functions.ts adds decorator lookahead and rejects member-access suffixes. The tests also cover bare, called, qualified, and streaming cases.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
